:mornincoffee: I'm planning on surprising my husband with a Keurig for his birthday. What model would you recommend? Or would you recommend a different brand name?

My wife makes the coffee so it isn't something that would be one my birthday present list.

DON'T get the Keurig brand!! I had 2 of them and each lasted about a year even though they were the deluxe edition and heavier duty than the ones like Wal Mart carries. They just "gave out" and we don't drink all that much coffee. Finally got a Cuisinart (Sams Club) that uses the K cups. It is much smoother, quieter and sturdier and we love it. If you'll check online you will find many complaints about the Keurig brand brewers. Pretty much the same complaints. They have a year warranty and they last a year and one day!! I love my K cups but think the Cuisinart is just a better made product.

I prefer the one that has the water reserve . This one has an auto on for the morning also.

FYI Starbucks K cups have been found at Walmart. Cleaned out by the next day.

Our local store was selling Tassimo Makers at half price. They also had Cuisinarts on sale. It's probably because I know nothing about them, but I somehow feel more comfortable with the Keurig Bramd.

......3 of our kids had the Keurig...ALL switched to the SENSEO...after trying coffee at our place. We have used Senseo for at least 8 years. Have 2... one for home ...and...one for trips.....Less messy...less pricey...BUT...of course IF you want CANDY FLAVORED Creamy COFFEE... you will have to buy the flavored cream seperately at your local store.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooo Happy with this Keuig model. Wife got it for me last Christmas! The water reserve is a must. These machine are Da Bomb! Da Best! Da one! so simple even a CarGuy can't mess it up!

Only hard part is picking out all the cool new coffee blends, cocco, hot cider teas etc

We bought one for all the Kids for Christmas. One had a problem Company shipped and new one ASAP!:024: Don't know about the other Senseo model it might be great also.

Customer service for Keurig is wonderful. They take care of your problems, if any, fast and with no hassle.

We had a bit of trouble with ours and they sent me a replacement coffee maker immediately. Doesn't get much better than that.

Tassimo Brand
 

We own the Tassimo Maker. As far as the machine goes, it has been great, but they don't have the variety of pods for it like Keurig. Since Tassimo discontinued the Starbucks coffee pods, we haven't found a substitute that we like that will fit their machine, so we're basically stuck with a coffee marker and no way of making a decent cup of coffee. Before we purchase our next coffee maker, I will first research the different varieties of coffee pods for each coffee maker, then make my purchase based on that. :mornincoffee:

We have the keurig with the water supply and love it.

Bought the Platinum model which had problems after about 4 months. Keurig immediately sent us a new and updated machine with another one year warranty. Like the machine and available coffe. Recommend that you purchase the in-reservoir filter and use filtered water from the frig.

I have the Cuisinart at home and the Keurig at work. Both are over a year old and have been doing a great job. I really like the Cuisinart machine but find filters for it can be a hassle, but I like the 4oz setting for espresso shots. Bottom line is either is great at this hour of the morning. :loco: Hi Ho, off to work we go.

I agree with Car Guy. Keuig is a great coffee maker. The machine will put Mr. Coffee out of business. It is the ONLY way to make coffee. It took a while to find my favorite brands but Keuig gives a sample pack with the machine and you will find your own favorites. Hopefully, in time, conventional coffee brands will be in K-cups. I woke up with Maxwell House as long as I drank coffee and had 7-11 brand at work. It would be great to have that option in K-Cups.

We have had the Keurig Elite Brewing System for over two years and just love it. Never had any problems - and many, many different 'K-cup' varieties to chose from. They are even available at Bealls and Bed Bath & Beyond if you don't want to order online. Remember to register your coffee maker on their website to receive a free package of K-cups. Had the Senseo but the lack of 'pod' variety helped us make the decision to change. I don't think you will be disappointed, but do get the one with the water resevoir.

We have Keurig up North and here. Our son gave us a big one with water reservoir for Christmas last year but we had to get another for TV. We bought one here at Belk and definitely sales person recommended one with water reservoir. The size is a bit smaller than the one up North but just right for the two of us.

Love my Keurig! I have a large model not sure of name or number, but it is what Costco had available and the price was wonderful. It had a large water reservoir and the choice of 5 different "cup" sizes. I only use it for coffee though there are many other options. I'm pretty much a tea snob and I can't stand tea that is coffee flavored becasue it was made with a water flow through an area that coffee went and I'm too lazy to do the cleaning they say you should do after making hot chocolate.

I think that one of the most important things to do to keep it in good working order is only use bottled or filtered water in in. Helps keep nasty mineral deposits from building up in it.

My Cuisinart from Sams came with 12 filters and that should last a few years. Bed, bath and beyond carries the filters.

You do have that option Tom. My Keurig came with a separate k-cup that you can put any kind of coffee into. I find enough flavors of k-cups and have not used the "manual" cup but that would probably be a lot cheaper. At best, the k-cups will cost you about .50 each.

Let us know how the Elite works for you! You'll love the coffee but it does kind of spoil you. When we are visiting friends without the k-cups that do not have Kuerig, we miss it. Thinking of getting the little portable one to carry with us!

I agree with Wendy that the Cuisinart is a much better and heavier duty unit. We have a Keurig and it broke. We called them and they sent us a new one no questions asked. They do stand behind their product.

I make a pot of coffee in the morning and rarely drink a whole cup at a time. A Keurig wouldn't work for me as most k cups cost around $.50+ and Folgers works out to be $.22/cup.
After I retired I worked for a company that serviced Keurigs. The large units that I serviced were for office environments and the home units were just hitting the market. We didn't bother repairing the smaller units. Most of the problems we had with the large units had to do with scale. I would advise using distilled water.

I have the nest you are talking about. I was unhappy with the way grounds managed to end up in the coffee. And I guess I am getting lazy in my old age and don't want tp spend time cleaning the nest every time I use it. I assume in time, becaus eof Keurig becoming so popular, Maxwell House will begin making k-cups.

I agree with Wendy. We also have the Cuinart one and it has wonderful features. The best is that the resevoir is quite large and it also dispenses just hot water AND it has a rinse feature ie: if you make a hot chocolate, you would want to rinse it out before you made coffee. We got ours on Amazon at a pretty good price.

We now have a Keurig and we've tried a great assortment of K-cups.
Almost as much fun as getting an iPad. Just kidding, nothing touches an iPad.
This Keurig will stay in Canada, and if we like it, we'll get a second one for TV. Life is good. :mornincoffee:

Kuerig coffee naker
 

We have the Kuerig with 48 oz reservoir. Have had it for 3 years, no problems.
Bought it at QVC and this time of the year they often have great deals that include some K cups along free shipping and handling. You also have until 1/31/12 to return the product with no questions asked.

We also bought clear plastic covers that fit the K cups so you can fill them with your favorite coffee for less money. Think they were $20 for 5 of them at www.My-Kap.com. Just be careful, I threw the first one away forgetting it was on there. Just have to line up the hole that was punctured when K cup was originally used and can usually use same one 3 times .

Nice to buy coffee on sale and enjoy your favorites. You can fill them and keep in freezer too !

I watched the video of the plastic covers. There is no charge for shipping. I may try it when I return th TV. Thanks for the tip.

We came down in July to buy our lot.

Wife brought the coffee maker with us. Used the tap water from the CYV in Saint James.

I almost gagged on the taste of my favorite coffee.

Cleaned it out went back to bottled water- All was well

I have a question. I have looked at the various coffee makers but it seemed to me that the coffee itself was a lot of money per cup as compared to the coffee from my Mr. Coffee. Is it?

If you buy the premade cups, it is expensive. However, I have a couple of cups made of plastic and a mesh that you refill and can use 100s of times. The keurig machines and the cuisant both come with refillable cups as well.

I buy both flavored and unflavored coffee beans, grind them at the store and use that. Speaking of coffee, I recently got some from THE COFFEE GOURMENT at the Spanish Springs craft fair and it was incredible. The vender will be at LSL Jan 7-8 and I am going to stock up. Her coffee iss $8 a bag and very highly flavored.

I tried those caps and had a terrible time with them. They never seemed to fit correctly.

When the water in ANY residence has not been used for more than 4 or 5 days...........IMHO.......

WE should run the "HOT" and "cold" water from every device for at least 4 or 5 minutes... in the showers and tubs and all sink faucets.... etc. ....run out enough to replace ALL the water that was sitting in the Hot Water Heater tank .. AND ...all water lines.
"anaerobic" bacteria found in all unused water lines is not good for you.

You would not believe what you would see...if you could see it.....

We had "city water" from fire hydrants trucked out to fill swimming pools when they were completed.

Two or three 7500 gallon tankers would unloaded that water thru a 6 inch hose........WOW....you could actually SEE anaerobic bacteria that looked like "opaque" FIVE INCH fish swimming along. Of course they all disappeared within 30 seconds or so....(because they had been exposed to air) .....That is what is in "unused" water lines......when we have not used the water for a period of time....Run out 2 or 3 hundred gallons of water.
...might even save a trip to the Doc

Not sure what a Keurig is but I am familiar with SENSEO and Tassimo brands those I can tell you can not touch the variety or full flavor of the Nespresso coffee pods. The machines ( for the Nesspresso coffee) are usually by Krups or DiLonghi and can be found on Amazon, at Maceys or Williams & Sonoma. If you are a true coffee lover but don't want the hassel of cleaning a big machine, Nesspresso and the machines that brew them are absolutely the best. Nespresso coffee pods can not be bought at any retail stores, it must be ordered over the phone or on-line. They are delivered to your home in 24hrs. The Nespresso coffee pods have been big here in Europe for a number of years and they are available in the States as well. Many of the folks in my office have converted to Nespresso and once they do they never go back!

I'm sure the K cups aren't cheap, but the variety paks are irresistible. I love to try new things! And you get coffee in one minute! :mornincoffee: So far we're loving our new Keurig!

Yes, absolutely the k-cups are more expensive per cup. The thing is you have a fresh hot cup anytime you please. In the morning you want your fresh extra-bold strong cup of coffee, you put the k-cup in and you got it. After lunch, you have a craving for a hazelnut flavored cup, you got it. One freshly made cup, when you want it, and nothing more.

The warehouse stores have good prices. I especially like Paul Newman's Extra Bold. It's about $39 for 80 cups. So it's about 50 cents per cup. Amazon has some deals also.
