Cody's disrespectful server!

It seems like every since the kind elderly gentlemen who greeted you at the front door passed away, so has Cody's service. We went up the other night to grab a burger and beer out on the lanai. Been goin' there for couples of years, so we know it can get pretty crazy(busy). Long story short, after getting everything ourselves and enjoying the ever increasingly smaller burger they serve, my wife kindly asked a server passing by if he could get us our check, he said "sure, I'll be right back" after 15 minutes my wife asked another server if he could get us our check. He began to mock her for using her hands while talking. This went on for a minute or two and my wife explained this was the second time she had asked for the check so perhaps she was trying to use her hands to illustrate her point since it was loud and had apparently communicated very ineffectively to the prior server. He proceeded to mock her some more and then took off. When he came back with the bill he started in again, by this time I was a bit miffed and tried to bring some levity to the situation. I said to the disrespctful server "Sir, I am afraid you have insulted my wife and therefore I feel compelled to challenge you to a dual on the field of honor" . He immediately became agitated and proceeded to tell us he had 150 guns at home at just let him know when and where. I thought he was joking, as I was about the whole dual thing. He became so agitated and confrontational, I gathered up my wife and the bill, took it to the bar and paid the tab to the first person who would take our money. This was by far the most bizzare interaction I think I have ever had with anyone, let alone someone who is supposed to be courteous and respectful. I was so taken aback I didn't even tell the manager about it as I feared the employee would seek retribution. I'm sure this is an isolated incident, however we will probably not go back for a looooong time.
DG
P.S. Neither me or my wife were drunk, beligerent or demanding. His disrespect was unprovoked.

Honestly, your first stop should have been to talk to the manager. I don't believe anyone would want someone like that working for them.

Should always be the first stop.

No, the first stop should have been a call to 911. That idiot wouldn't EVER use that threat again on anyone after being interview by the Sheriff.

ilovetv 11-22-2011 05:47 PM

I would have called the manager on my cell phone, from outside, to tell him about the wacko.

As it is, now all the servers and managers there are made suspect, and people need their jobs and steady business coming in. That server needed to be identified because in addition, FOOD safety is serious business too.

graciegirl 11-22-2011 06:24 PM

Boy Howdy. That is awful. AWFUL.

wendyquat 11-22-2011 06:57 PM

I agree with Gracie!! We enjoy Codys occasionally and I would hate to run into that character! I'm certain the management would want to know about it.

Carla B 11-22-2011 09:29 PM

Maybe the girls' posse should go there to confront him!!

I found this FaceBook page by accident while looking for a Villages page.
Apparently there are lots bad feelings towards Villagers by young people.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hate-T...26550650717559

If it doesn't open, it's Hate The Villages page.

tainsley 11-23-2011 06:05 AM

Wow...that was eye opening! Didn't realize so many young people hated TV. But I have met so many that were a pleasure to talk with.

islandgal 11-23-2011 06:15 AM

Maybe that website should be sent to the Daily Sun. What do you think?

If this person was so crazy, why would you say "Sir, I am afraid you have insulted my wife and therefore I feel compelled to challenge you to a dual on the field of honor" ? That sounds a little bizarre as well. Just sayin'.

buggyone 11-23-2011 06:59 AM

I just took a look at that Facebook page and it was scary in a way. I have seen all the kids around Spanish Springs at night hanging around the Church On The Square. All seemed very nice and just happy to be in a safe environment. Hard to believe that there is a Facebook page like that.

memason 11-23-2011 07:04 AM

I wouldn't get too excited about the page.... Not sure how long it has been out there, but only has 55 likes; so not a huge following.

What I found interesting was one poster, who appears to be a nurse and working somewhere in eye care, if you read her posts.

I have a feeling this page will die off pretty quick.

I definitely wouldn't want to give them any advertising. I see some of those posters don't even live here.

red tail 11-23-2011 07:47 AM

look on spokeo and some of them do live here.

These kids who post don't realize that what they post may be a career stopper. People who interview look on Facebook these days.

I went to the home page of one of the girls who posted a couple of mean, MEAN things and who is studying being a medical assistant of some kind and listed her school which must be near here. She also quoted the Bible and appears to be religious.(???)

I didn't want to even try to explain to them that as time passes they would be old and that in each of us lives a very young person.

Certainly they must have run into a few nice people here, I run into them all of the time.

I just want to get the girls together and beat the crap outa them.:wave:PLUS. I was given a new squirtgun for my birthday. Thank you Swimdawg!!

I see the vigilantes are out --- LET HANG HIM - no trial
Call the national guard -- get the manager -- call the owner -- boycott
There must be another side to this story -- Gracie, you must have some words of wisdom. It take two to tango

paulandjean 11-23-2011 08:51 AM

I agree two sides to every story. Do you think maybe some young peoplemhave had a hard time with some of the village customers, I beleive so. Again I say "Lighten Up on these young kids.

angiefox10 11-23-2011 09:07 AM

There are only 55 *likes* on this page and only a few people posting hateful things about how the villagers are hateful. uh... wait? what?

Sorry... I am referring to the FB page about hating The Villages. I meant to quote the post and forgot.

trichard 11-23-2011 09:46 AM

We used to go to Cody's because we enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Over a year ago we stopped going and we refuse to go when invited by others because of the rude customer service. Management just doesn't seem to care and neither do villagers because they continue to support this establishment.

What you say is very likely. They probably suffer a lot of abuse from impatient and grumpy people who don't tip fairly..... But if they are working here, we are the population that they are working for and with and....To put it fairly here in The Villages, There are among us...maybe...one or two mean natured souls, ;)and we all know who they are. ;)..but as a kid I was taught to be respectful of my elders.

I still think we need to get the squirtguns filled.

During our visit in october we had dinner at codys. The service was excellent and the mgr came by often to ask how things were going.

Couldn't find the squirt guns! Skyguy can find them!

Trish Crocker 11-23-2011 10:38 AM

These kids are trying to be funny (at least to each other)...there is one point to make however, I have see posts in which the poster expressed being uncomfortable with the young kids being in the Villages in the evenings, 'hanging around'. When a person is uncomfortable it shows and may come across as dislike or arrogance. I may be wrong, but while driving to TV it seems that we drove through some areas that were economically depressed...if the young people were from areas like this and TV is seen as an 'upscale' community, the reactions of some residents to the young people may be perceived as unfriendly or even snooty. I don't think there is a solution to this, we can't all walk around grinning like idiots at everyone (OK, I'll try when I get there!:girlneener:). I wouldn't worry about it though. I could start a facebook page "I hate cute little puppies" and I guarantee there would be followers. (btw...I don't hate puppies...I love em..just trying to come up with an example!)

DGx2 11-23-2011 10:43 AM

As I said, the situation was getting a little tense and I thought a little levity might ease the situation. In hindsight, should have just asked for the manager. My wife & I enjoy almost all of the resteraunts and retail stores in The Villages as well as the people who work there. Many fine young adults trying to get ahead in life or just make ends meet.
DG

gatherer47 11-23-2011 11:48 AM

You did nothing wrong DGx2-I'm not surprised that some posters here hinted that your remarks were the wrong things to say. There are always certain people here that just don't accept the facts and try to blame the poster.I have never had a problem with the service at Cody's and can remember some nice experiences with servers and managers but that certainly doesn't mean your situation didn't happen. In hindsight we would all handle certain things differently, but that DOESN"T mean your server was justified in his behavior.

angiefox10 11-23-2011 11:53 AM

I agree with gatherer47, I might have said something like you did as well to try to get the server to laugh. If you can make them laugh it generally defuses the situation.

I don't think you can be arrested for water.

Not sure about mustard or Ketchup. Catsup...

No hot sauce to be sure.

Sounds similiar to what is found out after the fact when one of these nuts with their guns start shooting people. There are always signs beforehand; they were quiet, they were beligerent, they were loaners, etc. An isolated incident, maybe or maybe not. Could this be a troubled person with 150 guns? Its probably still not too late to call the Manager and explain what happened................
