White Castle - Si

Crystal - a poor comparison to White Castle

Count me out. I'd like fewer chains, especially fast food. Sorry, just being honest.

Bill-n-Brillo 11-25-2011 09:14 PM

I'm in - Krystal it is!!!! :icon_hungry:

Bill :)

I'm thinking that the Country Clubs offer the best value for food and beverage. Who needs fast foods with all the sodium? Need that like a heart attach.

wendyquat 11-25-2011 09:45 PM

We always called them "gut bombs" where I grew up in Georgia! I can remember getting 10 for $1.00!:loco:

Sliders in our world. LOL

Bill-n-Brillo 11-25-2011 09:58 PM

White Castle's are all over up here in Ahia. "Belly Bombers", "Sliders/Slyders", "Rat Burgers", and ...........(wait for it).......... "Rectum Rockets" are some of the arguably hilarious burger nicknames tossed about in these parts!!! Definitely an 'acquired taste'! :D

Bill :)

Bill. Bill!

You are from Central Ohio, where I thought, until someone told me on this forum I was wrong, that White Castle started.

You can't have switched over to Crystal.

oh. I am so disappointed in you.

And P. Turner...I have to disagree with you on this one. White Castle please!

brostholder 11-26-2011 07:30 AM

If I can't get my White Castle fix, then Krystal is the next best thing. But if I remember correctly, Krystal doesn't steam the rolls with the burgers like White Castle does so you don't get that really good "mushy" roll taste with Krystals. I know that they're an acquired taste, but sometimes I just have to have some sliders!!

John_W 11-26-2011 10:29 AM

Everytime we go to Paddock Mall in Ocala I stop at Krystal's, I like them more than any hamburger even White Castle. They are just past the Mall after the Kane Furniture Store. I became a fan when I was stationed in Savannah, GA in 1972. We would often stop when coming back from the beach since it was on the way and it was a drive-in restaurant back then.

I'm also a fan of Steak & Shake, they're not the same but still very good as well as great fries. Growing up in St. Petersburg they built a Steak & Shake drive-in restaurant near my high school and it became our hangout on the weekends. It was such a huge place we would have a couple of hundred cars going through there on a Friday night and they had to have security guards directing traffic.

I think they have the best strawberry shakes in town!

We have McDonald's, Wendy's, and Johnny Rocket. Definitely DO NOT need anymore chain hamburger joints in The Villages area. They may taste like the old days you remember but look at the health aspects. Loads of grease, empty calories, and bad cholestorol that none of us need. Add in a large order of fries and a milk shake and look at the total you have consumed.

"Yeah, but it tasted good." were the words put on the tombstone.

Boy Howdy!

Krystal was a Florida thing. The Krystal in Jax was our favorite stop on the way to the movies.

When I was in Pa, they took me to a White Castle. Same thing as far as I was concerned.

BTW: they called them rat burgers in the part of PA I was in (western PA).

I still stop occasionally for a bag of Krystal burgers in Ocala.

Whitey's got their start in KS - headquarters is currently in Columbus.

Sorry to be a disappointment to you, Gracie...........sniffle............but Sandy and I both prefer Krystal over White Castle. As brostholder said, their buns are different. Well, ummmm.......I mean.......errrrr......their HAMBURGER buns are different!!

Bill

Boy Bill, you must have buns-o-steel having dared to make that comment! :a20:

eweissenbach 11-26-2011 06:16 PM

I've been a fan of both white castle and steak and shake for decades, but having traveled through Tejas the last few years, Whataburger is the best by far.

cquick 11-26-2011 09:08 PM

never had one, and I probably never would......

eweissenbach 11-26-2011 09:40 PM

Forgot about Five Guys - they make a goooooood burger too!

Indydealmaker 11-26-2011 09:43 PM

Absolutely nothing wrong with fat and cholesterol

IN MODERATION.

Too much of anything can endanger your health. Even water.

GO WHITE CASTLE!

Krystals? I'm in!! We have them regularly. Occasionally get a chili cheese pup for dessert!! :mmmm:

Carla B 11-27-2011 08:37 PM

Krystals? Count me in, too. Actually, anything cooked at home is much better, but who wants to do that everyday?

LittleDog 11-27-2011 09:37 PM

I can't believe that all you guys like Krystals. My wife and I stopped on our way north at a Krystals and I can honestly say that they were the worst burgers I have ever eaten (and I do like White Castle). I can't believe that that was meat I was eating. It tasted like mush without any flavor. We vowed never to stop at Krystals again. That was our first and only visit. I guess to each his own.

John

CaptJohn 11-27-2011 09:54 PM

Someone said earlier that Krystals don't have that steamy mushy bread taste but they do (or should).
Be sure to follow them up with their lemon icebox pie! If you're gonna be bad, be real bad!

Agreed, worst thing we ever tasted. one bite each was toomuch, throw the rest away, never went back again.:loco::loco:

graciegirl 11-28-2011 04:54 AM

I think that White Castle might be an aquired taste like Cincinnati Chili and good Scotch and I do say them in the same breath...:loco:

When I was little and I suspect poor, we would be driven to Bexley in Columbus, Ohio, about three times a year to buy a bag of White Castles. My cousin and I could hardly wait to taste those little sandwiches with the oniony smell coming from that bag and the little cardboard containers that looked like castles. Cousin Ronnie had his mom take the pickle off of his.

Also remember the very rare visits to Galls ice cream on Lockbourne Road in the South end for a milkshake.

2BNTV 11-28-2011 04:04 PM

I'm out. Krystal or White Castle.

I remember having White Castle once when I was very young. I think the cook dropped the oil container into the hamburger making it a grease burger.
:yuck:

I would never get them again. To each his/her own.

Five Guys is more acceptable to my taste buds and because I am somewhat health concious, I don't go that often.

CaptJohn 11-28-2011 08:03 PM

We're going to need a double blind test to find out which is really best!
I polled some people at work today and the boss from Buffalo, NY said he's had both and hates them both and would never have either again. A co-worker from Indiana but been here half his life says White Castle. Another co-worker born in Iowa says they're the same.

So my question is to Gracie: what is it about Cincinnati chili that makes it an acquired taste? I visit friends in Waynesville and the next trip up I'll have to try some. Oh yeah, and some of those White Castle things too!
