Finally a Frog and Frogette
 

The husband arrived last week searching for a home. I arrived day before yesterday to view his discovery. We signed for a home in Tamarind Grove on Odessa Circle yesterday. We close Jan 3, 2012.

The husband did a fabulous job too. Dang I love this guy! Husbands rock!

We have finally become Frogs. Now the fun begins, decorating, golfing, dancing and enjoying The Villages.

Hi Gracie

We bought a spec home - Gardenia. It's on a corner lot, hardwood floors, tile and carpet. There are many upgrades that we love too. It's been popped out too.

Plus the Yorkies really like the Lanai and yard.

The Village lifestyle, price of a home, tax's, tax's and cost of living. California is so expensive, congested and I love this community. By moving here, we were able to retire many years earlier.

My Dad lives in Virginia Trace too. It will be wonderful spending time with my Dad, he's 82 today and still 100% active.

Great for you on being able to retire earlier !

Our daughter lives in San Diego, and we would LOVE to be out there, but you are right - it is VERY expensive.

Congratulations on coming to TV! Compared to California, this is dirt cheap living. You will have a wonderful time doing all you said, furniture, landscaping, etc. Just remember to have your checkbook with you at all times.

Have a wonderful life and retiring early rocks! I retired the very first day (literally) I was eligible for health care and a pension.

Congrats to you and your wonderful husband and a Happy Birthday wish to your Dad. Isn't it funny how everything falls into place...as I said before good things happen to good people! See ya' around the Grove! :wave:

Same here, and I have not regretted it a bit !

The benefits have eroded, and I don't get pension increases, but I walked away form a very stressful job.

More time to take care of my wife, who has a chronic illness, but no regrets about the early retirement.

My wife's need for some specialists, along with leaving doctors who know her "inside and out," is what's holding us back.

Transition for newbees
 

It is impressive how welcoming you all are on this forum. For those of us who will leave our families behind, leave everything that is familiar to us behind, leave where we've grown up.....it will give us a "peace" of mind to know that when we arrive you all will be greeting us with open arms. While we all talk about how wonderful it will be to live in TV, a lot of us, myself included, will be leaving our sisters, brothers, mother (who is 84), friends and all that we've known for 52+ years. Our hearts will be heavy for a while. But, with all of your encouragement and friendly spirits it will certainly make the transition easier. Thanks to all of you in advance.

P.S. I think I'll need a welcome wagon when we arrive! Wait, make that a welcome golf cart!!

My wife and I are looking at The Villages now, and as far as a move goes, we are in the same boat as you, for all the reasons you mentioned. It's a HUGE decision that we have to make.

Oh, be careful about the Welcome Wagon. I suggest you search out and read that current thread.

Where in upstate NY do you live ?
We live in Putnam County, about 50 miles north of NYC.

We live in Queensbury....about 50 minutes north of Albany. I have read threads about the so called Welcome Wagon. They are scams! I was hoping someone would create a real Welcome Wagon. Unless you say you read my post on this site, I'll know who ever shows up at my door is a fake! Good luch with you decision and your move.

Good for you! Life is so short and precious. I'm so much more than my career, education or the state I live in. I love being free with my time and time is to be honored before it runs out.

I know it's difficult to leave family, friends and your routine of life.

For me, I wanted to live in a dynamic thriving community and TV has all those components if I utilize them. For most of my life I have been a caretaker, always there for clients, family and friends. Years ago I had a bout of cancer. During that time I questioned and viewed my life as an observer. I realized I was not a good friend to myself, I began to take care of me and to dream of what I wanted to do on this planet. The hardest part was taking the first step.

I left my daughter and her two children in California. My kid is a mature dynamic woman, she will be so okay without me, I raised her to be self sufficient. If I had stayed in CA for her and the grandkids, I would not be true to my dreams or to my soul.

You will be welcomed to TV with open arms. I have not met any of these folks in person, but they are my friends. The golden thread runs through us all. I try to look at our similarities and not the differences.

I think it is normal for people to feel anxious about leaving a life that is so familiar to them but everyone has to do what's is right for them. It is nice to be there for when a family member needs you but you can't live your life for someone else. You will always feel discontentment. I know several people who have retired and spend their time babysitting or running errands for family members. A friend of mine once remarked, thet he was busier being retired as his daughter had him running ragged. He was not a happy camper until he moved to TV. :)

The people who don't understand are the one's who have never been to TV and don't know what it is all about. Once they visit, they will understand. I know I can't wait to get there. :)

BTW - My friends daughter owns a home in TV.

That will be a new drink. A welcome Wagon Cart. Crushed or cubed? Umbrella or plain? Too many and your wheels fall off. Worse than the other new drink...The Gate Crasher...

Just kidding..Welcome to you and genuine hugs waiting and even chocolate milk if you want it...wait...we have egg nog!!
