Please No Pet sign
After all other means, had to resort to "Please No Pet" sign in yard....The "ole boy" (we spend lots of time in our yard trying to make it nice) spent the better part of 2 hours, preparing ground (that had been damaged by a lazy neighbor that chose to let her dog urinate in yard), buying sod, watering, having sign made at local Staples.....Now, we wait and hope our neighbors don't take offense....Lord help the first dog-walker that ignores the sign....I can't be held responsible for what the "ole boy" will say!...Yikes....Ole Boy thinks the dog-walker is saying, "Don't want my dog to pee and poop in MY Yard, so will take Fido to YOUR yard!...Ugh! There may be a run at Staples for these signs....Hope Community Watch doesn't have a problem with this!.....Will wait and hope!:a20::a20:

Good Luck, I never could understand the people that walk their dogs. They have a leash and yet they let them walk on peoples lawn and do their business. The street I could understand.Them "Dog Walkers" odd bunch.

I would follow the offender home with a bag of poop and put in on their porch. |
Have you tried using the sprinklers to wash away the dog urine?

i sooooo share your pain - and that of the "ole boy"! in the event that the sign does not do the trick, let me share: we have that problem here in nj. we sought the advice of a vet we know re what to do with the insensitive dog walkers...his response - sprinkle a bit of ground cayenne pepper along the edge of the lawn and a few feet into it...a snootful of that will not injure the pet and will give them cause to not pause there again. a bit inconvenient since it needs to be applied after significant rains - but worth the effort. we found that the cayenne also keeps the crows from investigating what garbage we place at the curb - a side benefit! and the pepper has never done damage to the growth of the lawn. eventually, the walkers learned to keep their pets moving when they approached our property! we only need to do this now when we notice new walkers in the neighborhood. |
Dogs relieving themselves
I have to agree with you all about the dogs not doing their business on your lawn. ATTENTION ALL DOG OWNERS: those of us who don't own dogs do NOT want your dog peeing or pooping anywhere near our lawns. As future Villagers, we will have a fit if your dog relieves himself on our lawn. We are very friendly people but that will put us over the edge. I have heard that the Cayenne pepper works....good luck.:rant-rave:

I agree with you - best of luck! We've spotted our neighbors walking their dogs on our lawn, very early in the morning when its dark and they probably don't realize we're even up yet.

True story. We were taking care of my parent's dog, an old Chesapeake retriever, who was blind. Since her urine killed large areas of grass, we decided to make a litter box for her. I built a 4'X4' box about 8" deep and sunk it in the ground under a cover in our back yard. My wife and her friend went to the store to get kitty litter. They were standing in the checkout line with about six 25 lb. bags of kitty litter when the lady behind them leaned over and asked, "Just how big is that cat?" We still laugh about that to this day. We were able to train that old dog to use the litter box in a short time. She could find it despite being blind, although sometimes she got the front end in and let the hind end hang outside the box when she did her thing. |

We have 2 miniature Dachshunds and they have never killed any grass with their urine as far as I know. They always go in our yard and I have never seen a brown spot. Whenever I take them for a walk, I always make sure they are "cleaned out" before we leave our property. They never venture into anyone's yard unless invited and then they're just sniffing around. I carry a poop bag with me just in case one of them doesn't get "cleaned out" before we leave, but they always wind up going in the street and I clean it up.
I always try to be the type of neighbor I would like to have. |
Thank you getdul981 for being such a courteous pet owner. I expect most people do pretty well, and that there are just a few who need to be more thoughtful/responsible.

Let me see if I understand correctly. Those who don't appreciate having the pets of other people use their yards as their personal potty are unfriendly. So, basically, part of my land should be available to any pet owner to use for their pet to urinate and/or defecate on and I am not allowed to complain without being considered a bad neighbor. And, since one animal has used the land to leave a calling card, every other animal that walks by has to do the same. And that's OK? Because there is no apparent damage or just because?
Where does this end? Say I need additional room to park a car. Can I use your lawn? There won't be any obvious damage. I might like to practice my golf swing, as well. The grass will fill in. You know, I could save a lot of steps if I just cut through your yard on my way to the square. Is that OK? I mean, I know it's your property and you paid for it, but I should be able to use it, right? |
Is this really a problem in TV?
To answer your question, NO.. It's NOT OK. But I don't think that the people owning dogs are taking their dogs to non dog owners homes and having them do their business. I think that most dog owners are responsible.
I think the OP is having a problem with someone THEY live near. But I really doubt that it's an issue. Most of the people on this thread seems to me to be VERY concerned about this. I have dogs and I agree that it's NOT OK. And to be honest, I don't want someone to bring their dog to my yard to do his duty... and if he does please have the courtesy to clean it up. But I also know that dogs are ....... dogs. They don't know MY grass from YOUR grass. So if by chance a dog does get confused. Just clean it up and carry on. I'm pretty sure that most dog owners would agree that a dog should not be encouraged to do their "duty" on someone else's yard. Except Fumar... He LOVES dogs! :doggie: |
HI Angie
The problem is the Urine, not easy to clean up and it leaves a calling card for every other dog to leave his urine in the SAME spot and that is when you have brown spots....It is so simple, if you have a dog, let him poop and pee in your yard, problem solved!

I had that same problem in MN. My neighbor refused to tie his dog up and my front lawn was evidence of that. I called animal control three times to complain. It did nto result in a solution. so I then began shovel his property back over to his yard and front porch. the day before I left to come to TV he came over to tell me he wish we had gotten better acquainted. All I could think of was:wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave::wave ::wave:

Where I live there is a sidewalk across the street and I can watch dog walkers walking along the sidewalk while their dogs run through the yards sniffing the grass and urinating and defecating (most do pick up the poop). Last week I saw grandchildren playing in one of the yards and rolling around in the grass. YUK!! Even if you do pick up there will be residue. Come on folks, this is unacceptable. Teach your pet to go on your property and then take them for a walk or better yet, take them to one of our three dog parks. For a small fee, Doggy Do Run will even pick up your dog's poop for you. :rant-rave:

There is not a lot I can do personally to fix all the problems in this world, but I can do something about people who don't understand property rights include my right to determine how my property will be used and who will do what with it. |

I'm also dog friendly but I think that dog owners get a lot of negative push back because their owners are inconsiderate and abuse other people's property. Having a dog in TV can be difficult since we all live so close to each other, that's why respecting our neighbors and their property is so important. I would never allow my dog or my grandchildren to trespass on my neighbors' property. I agree that there are problems in the world but for harmonious living on a day to day basis, respecting our neighbors' boundaries is a good thing. |
IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE NEED TO HUG A DOG! It would really help you loosen up and, regrettably for us dog owners, add more years to your life!

Where is Fumar?? Help!

Both Lucy and Mozart live in our neighborhood and so does Prince and two other beautiful dogs too. Not a one of them stop to use our lawn. Those doggies have all been brought up right. It is easier to like dogs and kids if they are well trained. Everyone loves their own dogs and kids but other people won't like them much if they are not well trained. So...I say you can't expect to have people love your dogs and add years to their lives if they aren't nice and know their manners. |
Hi Karennn
I give my dog lots of hugs, and this is the important part, RESPECT my neighbors enough to keep MY dog in MY yard which really would solve this little problem...I'm not losing sleep over this, just think the solution is so simple, keep your sweet little dog and his poop and pee in your own yard and then everyone will get hugs!

One of the hardest things I have ever had to do was take my dog to the vet knowing her life would be ended. I stayed with her while they administered the injection to ease her suffering. When she raised her head to look at me, I lost it completely. I felt so disloyal to her. When it was over, the vet told me I did the right thing by her, but that didn't help. I made the decision I didn't ever want to go through that again. So, I don't currently have a dog. But I understand completely those who don't want their property fouled by the waste products of your pet's metabolism. Your dog, your property, that's where that stuff belongs. I believe there are many more pet owners that respect others' properties than those that don't. Like most problems, it is the 1% that create 99% of the trouble. |
My heart goes out to you for the loss of your pet. Their little faces and eyes just melt you, just like a child. I don't own a pet but I like pets, just not ones that go where they shouldn't. My daughter has a dog and she treats him like a human! He is cute. I think this topic is A heads up for pet owners. It's a reminder to keep their pets in control at all times and respect others property. :sigh:

Inconsiderate Dog Owners
I have 2 dogs that I walk on short leashes in the middle of the street. I personally don't understand walking your dog with a leash that can extend to over 20 feet. I clean up after my dogs when they poop and I shouldn't have to clean up after someone else's dog. I live on a corner lot and I get disgusted with dog poop that is left on my lawn and also cigarette butts that are flipped upon my lawn. Clean up after yourself. I am not anyone's maid!
