Another Villager Biker scofflaw
My wife and I were stopped at the red light on 466 between Citizens Bank and the Shell Station. In front of us was a woman on a bike. I really didn't get a close look at her but she was not a "spring chicken", probably in her 70's or so. In any case she was stopped in front of us. She then waited for cars to pass and started crossing 466 with the red light. She stopped in the middle until cars cleared and then proceeded the rest of the way across 466. Maybe she felt like she was just a pedestrian instead of someone riding a bike.

YIKES!!!

Get use to it. She is not the first and will not be the last.

I was under the impression that even pedestrians had to obey traffic lights.

here comes the.....

It does not sound as if she took any unnecessary chances with cars if she waited until all oncoming cars on 466 were gone before she started across.
Yes, I know that a person on a bicycle is supposed to obey all the traffic rules as cars - but was it something you deemed worthy to post on TOTV? It must have really gotten to you even though it did not harm you in anyway. |

So John reports a situation with a bike rider that's obviously a safety concern and another poster says what's the big deal? Like "no harm no foul". All too often here we get this kind of response where the original poster is criticized for even posting what he saw.We had this same kind of response when grandpa let his grandson wreck the golf cart and destroy a gate. Some posters said what's the big deal.Good grief some people sure are [you fill in the word]

Gatherer47, well, let's see what kind of response this brings -
"Good grief, some people sure are wondering why a person who crosses the road against the light is Villages-worthy news." I could definitely see posting about what my wife saw yesterday - a car on the Multi-Modal trail. The poor guy knew he had done something wrong but had to continue until he got to the next neighborhood entrance. She said carts were shouting at the driver and he was just trying to get off the trail as soon as possible. Or someone posting about seeing Gramps driving his golf cart with 2 grandkids standing in the back strapped in like golf bags. To me, those are more post-worthy than a person crossing the road against the light. Hey, maybe it is just me. No harm, no foul for posting what you want. |

If my posting was out of line and seemed petty, I do apologize. From the title of the original posting "Another Villager Biker Scofflaw", I was anticipating a Harley-Davidson speeding at 65 mph on a Multi-Modal Trail. Instead, I got a 70 year old lady crossing the street against the light.
Anyhow, no harm was done and I hope I did not ruffle too many feathers. It was not my intent. |

Contrarians
If you will notice, there are some posters who rarely post with any positive comments. They are invariably negative and unnecessarily contrarian. Just click on their names and go to their statistics and read their past posts. Maybe there is an award for the most negativity.

Hmm, If someone complains about complainers, does that make them a complainer as well ? Just a thought.

...But nobody answered the question, why did the woman cross the road?
|
To get to the other side?

Sorry about that.    |

......No Spring Chicken...... Why did the chicken cross the street? To get to the other side! Sitting atop her bicycle seat, away, away she did ride. Breaking laws crossing 466, she's been known to ruffle a feather; but she does it for her two little chicks who are known as Alice and Heather. You know, John, I suspect I have seen this woman twice. The first time was several months ago. As I was leaving Publix she was coming in and she stepped up on the scale. She is so thin, I was curious to see how much she would weigh, so I slowed down and looked. She weighed about 102 pounds. Does that fit the discription of the woman you saw? Her bicycle was parked just outside the door. Then about a week ago, I saw the same woman walking her bicycle after having crossed 466 near CVS. She was headed towards Publix. One thing I noticed is that she wasn't wearing a helmet. I remember wondering if she knew that she could be fined $77 dollars for not wearing a helmet. But now I'm wondering if she might have taken it off to cross 466. When you saw her, was she wearing a helmet? In any case, if it's the same woman, I think she does attract attention (even when not breaking the law) because she doesn't fit the profile for the average bike rider in TV. :) |
Hmmm!....good point

I always wondered about Rolling Acres Rd....I wondered if the difference would be that they would be walking with a cross-walk signal...Although I must admit, I've noticed many walkers and bicycles crossing between Petco and "5 guy's" but CARTS are forbidden....Hmmm! |
Is it mandatory to wear a helmet when riding a bike but not a motorcycle?:undecided:

We are coming down for a Lifestyle visit on the 20th of this month and wondered if we had to buy helmets to ride the free bikes. Will be careful to abide by the rules of the road lest we get fined. By the way ... exactly what are some :ohdear: offenses that you can be fined for on a bike? Any good places to ride the bikes? |

I'll let the long time veterans respond about offenses and good places to ride. I, too, will be interested in that info, as I'll be closing in January....which reminds me....bring your checkbook! Have a great visit!! |

A bit off the thread topic here...suggest viewing some of the others re models, Sanibel, etc. And don't hesitate to ask just about anybody just about anything! At this stage of TV, I'll bet almost everything has been experienced by someone. There'll always be Buyer's Remorse to some degree, I s'pose, but I think most are genuinely satisfied. |

Seems like bike rider infractions are taken very seriously and I surely would not want to endanger either myself or someone else out of ingnorance of the laws. Maybe I ought to just leave the bikes in the garage (for fear of getting a ticket) and just drive the Golf Car. |
