We are closing on our Begonia on 12/29. We built on Raven Croft Terrace, behind and to the left of Captiva Rec Center.

Cowboy fans since 1965. Moving to Silk Tree lot 80 on February 7th.
Vera and I love to tailgate.

Zoomie1955 12-09-2011 07:12 PM

We will have to find out if we can do tailgating in a local parking lot. Does anyone know it this is possible?
We will not be at TV until the end of the month. So fellows NFL fans, we need to fan out and find out!:MOJE_whot:

I don't think everybody will fit!!!
Maybe we can have it at the village pool area! But how are we going to get cable there?

SgtJohn 12-09-2011 08:36 PM

Very long extension cables ?

natickdan 12-09-2011 10:01 PM

Welcome to TV. We bought our home in Buttonwood last December and closed in January and like any true football fan, I like a tailgate party. Yes, we all have our favorite football teams and I'm okay with that as long, of course, you are a New England Patriots fan ;)

rodie 12-09-2011 10:35 PM

We are in. We will be down between 12/20 and 1/5 picking things out for the start of our house. So in for sure next football season. But have to tell you we are big Colts fans. Actually trying to talk wife into letting me get a decked out Colts golf cart.

I have NFL Sunday Ticket with Directv so I can see every Ravens game. However, I know many Ravens fans go to two places, the Hacienda Hills CC usually has a lot of tables set aside for Baltimore fans and Beef O'Brady at Mulberry is operated by a man whose a huge Ravens fan and even has crab cakes available during Ravens games.

I think you'll find that most teams' fans have watering holes already in place they can go to. I see you're from western PA and from what I've heard Steelers fans go to Beef O'Brady in Wildwood, although I would never go there to check that out.

You'll need to ask around or go online to team boards. I found out by playing golf and people see my Ravens decals on my golf cart and right away you'll invited to these events. Once you live here full time I don't think you'll really be into cooking and drinking outside in a parking lot and if you're planning on watching a TV with rabbit ears most of the time we get Jaguars and Buccaneer games out of the Orlando stations.

Maybe certain cul-de-sacs can be designated NFL Sunday Safe Zones. Everybody brings a favorite dish, adult beverage, couple extra yards of cable.......

...or party there then parade to O'Brady's....

No slaps intended. Congrats on the new thread. I see a lot of interest. Will look forward to joining the tailgating when we move in. Jack

I'm sure there will be plenty of places for Steeler fans to watch the games. I am told there are 3 different Pittsburgh clubs in the Villages. The reason there are 3 is because the clubs got so big they had to close membership and open a new one. My husband and I won't be there for this football season but will be there next year. We plan on getting Direct TV and the NFL package. If we aren't able to find a place to tailgate, our house is always open. Can't wait, it will be fun.

I'm thinking of starting a Raven's Nest. Does anyone know if there are any already established ?

I know of a Maryland/Delaware club but as far as the Ravens I hear they get about 75 or more Ravens fans at Hacienda Hills CC for the games. In fact the Maryland Club held a crab-fest at Hacienda Hills on Oct. 11th and it sold out at $45 a head. As I mentioned above, at Mulberry Beef O'Brady they serve Maryland crab cakes and get a large Ravens crowd for the Ravens games also.

I only had season tickets for one year back in Baltimore, I found once you reach a certain age tailgating and going to a game is an all day event and really takes it out of you. I enjoy just watching the games at home on my 50" Plasma TV with NFL Sunday Ticket.

What I would suggest is when you get here go the Hacienda Hills CC and Beef O'Bradys for the games and run your idea by the group there, and if they're interested then that would be a good place to recruit members.

If you're still back in the Maryland area why don't you check with the Ravens Nest and see what it takes to get one started. That way you've got a head start when you get here. Here's a link http://www.ravensnests.com/

Did you put a deposit on a lot yet? Where?
We are building in Sanibel, to the left behind Captiva Rec Center on Raven Croft Terrace. Closing on 12/29.
Where in the Pgh. area are you from? We came from Johnstown.

We have a lot on Killington Loop, really it's the first street in Fernandina Village. We hope to start to build Spring 2012. We live in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, 7 miles outside of the city.

Thanks John, for the info. I am already a Nest member and have the information for starting one. I currently belong to Ravens Nest #7 in Southern York County, Pennsylvania.

That's good that you're already a Nest member. My neighbor in Abingdon 'English Steve' was the guy that started one of the biggest Ravens message boards, it's changed names a few times and it's now called Ravens Insider. I used to post a lot on his first board about ten years ago and on Baltimore Sun board as "DeepPurple" but haven't done any of that in a long time.

Back in Harford County everyone was a Ravens fan but when you get down here you'll see Yankees, Ohio State, Bears, Red Sox and Patriots, Giants, Jets, so it neat when you see another Ravens Golf Cart. I haven't seen a Browns or Bengals yet and I've been here six months, what's up with that?

SgtJohn 12-10-2011 08:04 PM

Who did your cart ?

My cart is a 2011 Yamaha gas model bought on the 4th of July weekend at the Villages Golf Cart store at LSL. I have almost every option added except for a radio. The base price was about $8800 but in July they were getting ready for the 2012 models so they knocked it down to $8000, but the extras took the price back up. I figured it will probably be the last cart I'll ever buy so I got what I wanted. The seats are the most expensive item. They're call 'Ultimate Seats' and run $1500. Even though they sell a lot of them, they don't stock the seats and it takes 3 weeks for them to arrive.

The decals I got on eBay and the license tages and tag holders probably at White Marsh Mall. The decals on the side you can't see, but I've got a Raven Shield like at midfield at the stadium, it's about 5" tall and looks sharp. I have that one each side along with an Oriole Bird and my old Maryland tag on the rear license.
