Facebook HATE THE VILLAGES FLORIDA

Facebook has a post titled "HaTE THE VILLAGES FLORIDA". Hundreds of bozo's ripping TV and its residence apart. According to their facts we are all brain dead and infersted with STD's. If any of you guys are on Facebook, help me throw it back in their faces.

borjo 12-10-2011 07:16 PM

I really think a lot of them are kids that work here by what some of what they were saying. I wouldn't want the page to get bigger by starting a war. We know their turn will come at getting old. Meanwhile, I'll just sign myself out as one of their "Wrinkle Monsters"

Happinow 12-10-2011 07:29 PM

Tom, I don't think we should waste our time or our breath on those "Villages haters". Obviously, they are jealous. We know what paradise is....

I agree. We don't want these dirt bags here anyway. The less people who know about TV the less people to tie up the golf courses and eateries.

I've been on Facebook for over eight years and one thing I have learned is that there is more crap on that site than any other social media site I have ever seen. I guess with over 500 million users it is only logical that there are lots of folks out there with axes to grind.

The OP piqued my curiosity, but the only site I could find was this one:
https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/I-...98197843546205
which shows that this site only had 13 "likes." Not much venom there. Perhaps the original poster could post the link so I can see the "hundreds" of youngins spouting their uneducated vitriol.

Personally, I would not waste my time reading the hate items of disenchanted youths who are working at menial jobs in The Villages.

However, if one knew of the youth's employer and showed the employer the hatefilled diatribe their employee had toward the customers, I doubt if the employee would be employed much longer. These disenchanted youths usually do not realize the consequences of posting too much information on Facebook. It can turn around and bite you in the butt.

Thanks Tom. I don't know why I couldn't find it, but your link took me right there.

A few obsevations:

There are only 60 "likes" for the page, so we are only looking at a small number of bitter morons.

Very few of the posts are recent.

What strikes me the most is that the posters rely on ugly generalizations about old folks. It is very similar to prejudice, bigotry and the like. People who post those types of things are the same as those who claim "All blacks are..." or "All Jews are..." or even "All liberals are..." Stereotyping is the weapon of the ignorant.

Don't waste your time trying to engage these folks in a battle of wits, because your oppnents are unarmed. Ignore them...most of their posts are made when Villagers actually respond to their nonsense.

Sunshine Mary 12-10-2011 08:13 PM

Yes people is jealous and I bet there never been here before .The place I stay last winter in Fort Myers put the Village down but never been here before . So how can you say anything about it if you never been here before

Thanks, I'm on facebook, but I think I'll pass on that page.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and if you don't want to be on Facebook, I applaude you standing by your principles. For me personally, I have to respectfully disagree.

I have found FB to be an excellent way to stay in touch--it has put me in touch with friends from grammar school, junior and senior high, and college. We have a family page where siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles, and parents can stay in touch on a daily basis. FB is just a tool for communication (just like TOTV) and anything that enhances communication between friends and relatives is OK in my book.

I don't find that it adds to stress, in fact, I find it one of my more relaxing activities.

It is certainly not for everyone, and there are people who become addicted to it (just like other message boards and social media sites) and others who abuse it, but if it is used as a tool (like TOTV, cell phones, email, snail mail, etc.) it can be very beneficial.

Just my $.02

Trish Crocker 12-10-2011 10:26 PM

I'm on facebook for a few reasons...no, I don't care what everyone is doing every minute of the day or if their kid has the sniffles...I use it to talk to my kids and grandkids and it really does give me insight into what is going on in their lives...they are much more open when expressing themselves (sometimes too much so!)..I have also reconnected with some great friends that I had lost contact with and I really like the stupid games (I know, I need to get a life!)

graciegirl 12-10-2011 10:27 PM

I agree Cappy Jon.

It keeps me up to date with our grandkids and our grandchildrens friends and our adult kids who are active in civic theatre.

And my class of '57...and our old neighbors in Ohio.

And there are a LOT of villagers who post too.

There has been some information out there on the internet about "TV having the highest rate of STDs in the US" for a long time. That statistic just doesn't make sense! Compared to NYC, LA, San Fran????? Really! It has persisted as an urban legend wannabee, so maybe that is where these little morons got their info. Whatever! Not worth bothering with--maybe they won't move here--somehow we will get along without them!

Yep

I understand where you guys are coming from and do respect your free access to the social network. Point well taken. I'm maybe a little jealouse you guys have fun with Face Book. Maybe I'm a the last Face Book virgin!

Here is my life with Face Book. How many kids are on under the legal face book age of 13?

If you saw some of the stuff the Police have show us in seminars it would make you think diff! In the public school sector it is discouraged by Admin and HR.

Have been shown what the Feds can do with your information and contacts.

Have had way to many seminars on face book bullying from both adults and kids

Have had way to may graduates not get a job because of past face book activity.

And my only close experience of Face Book has been fellow students and employees excorted out in handcuffs!

Oh and the fist fight outside of Church over a facebook argument!

And worst of all I now find out from Tom, We all live in a Village full of people with STD's That was way to much information for me. :coolsmiley:

I'm glad for all your advice- I do not mean to be argumentative- Maybe when I retire I can get my own page - And then again maybe I'll stay a Face Book Virgin. Then I can't get a Social Media STD:ohdear:

AM I the only one not on Face Book in the Villages. That would be intersting.

Nah, you're not the only one. I tried it for a month or two at my daughter's suggestion. I absolutely hated it. I care too much about my privacy and the privacy of my loved ones for that type of exposure and frankly I really don't care about all of life's ups and downs for people who are darn-near total strangers. My junk email ratcheted up considerably. Someone even took the time to explain why they had defriended someone. I didn't even know it was like the end of the world to be defriended. Nah, I'm into a stress-free existence now-a-days.

Oh, about the STD problem (long ago and probably greatly exaggerated) - damn that little blue pill!

Xavier

Facebook virgin as well but admit that my wife is on it so if there is ever anything interesting she passes it on. No desire for my own page. I kid her by telling her that I am on the ADULT FACEBOOK, Linkedin....

If the creator of "Hate The Villages" and the other posters are employees of TV, I would love to know where they work. Based on their negative comments, I don't think I would want them preparing any of my meals. Just sayin'.

It's hard for an Italian man to admit he's a 'Virgin' to anything, but I am to Facebook as well.

sounds like a lot of people on this forum are still living in the past. just because you're retired doesnt mean new things are bad. better be careful or the next thing you know you'll be an 'old fogey'

Add my name to the "Face Book Virgins". And by the way, does anyone have any idea where the STD's statistics for the Villages is obtained?? Just curious what authoritative report quotes these figures.

I think it was mentioned in the BS book "Leisure Village" Not sure if it was ever confirmed but I hear the same stat from many people when I mention The Villages. Who knows how accurate it is.

I hear this almost every day up north when I mention I live in TV. I just say "Imagine that, old people like sex too!" And even if the stats were true why would that concern the vast majority of us TV'ers who are married?

Russ.

The elves are watching you and listening to you too.

It isn't good to be naughty this time of the year.

Take it from an OLD friend! ;)

faithfulfrank 12-11-2011 08:16 AM

Hey Russ,
Good to see you again!

I admit the wife and I both have facebook accounts. It has proven to be a great way to keep up with the daily lives of our kids and grandchild. The pictures and videos they post are wonderful to see when you live 100's of miles away.

Like anything, it is how you use it. I have become reacquainted with some wonderful friends from the past whom I do not think I'd ever hear from again if not for facebook. I have been able to share pictures, etc there. Just prior to our move down here I used a local facebook page up north to sell many items quickly and without cost.

But, I am picky about it too. My wife is even more so. I do not play their games, etc. If I hardly knew you 30 years ago I will not automatically make you my "facebook friend". I don't facebook "poke".

As to the original topic of some hateful facebook page, there are idiots everywhere. Engaging with them is foolish, as you are not going to change a closed mind. It is like swimming in quicksand. He who argues with a fool is a fool...and most all of the good folks here are to smart to be foolish....

Living well is the best revenge.....

Where do you suppose "Leisure Village" got these statistics?? Did they do some kind of survey? Did they quote some vital stats from an accredited source? It's real easy to just throw out erroneous info such as this without having some viable proof.

You can always go to Facebook and ask the author. LOL.

cappyjon431 12-11-2011 09:05 AM

The book was actually entitled Leisureville (I read it, and while it had some funny stories and characters, it was an excellent example of sensationalism), but the STD figures have been circulating for many years, even prior to the book. A quick Google search shows this article as early as 2006:

http://www.wftv.com/news/news/doctor...ease-in/nFB8g/

When the national and international news got wind of this one doctor in TV reporting a surprisingly high number of patients with STDs, it became a media sensation and was widely reported around the world. Even though this was one doctor who did not conduct a scientific study but only reported anecdotal evidence, it became so widespread as to become an urban legend.

graciegirl 12-11-2011 09:22 AM

I have heard that about std so many times and I am never sure if the people telling me are shocked or envious.

angiefox10 12-11-2011 09:59 AM

Facebook

Is what you make it.

I have made friends, found friends and relatives, saved dogs, learned from, laughed and cried with people, because of fb. You can tell all or nothing about yourself. It's yours do do with as you wish. There is only bullying if you allow it. I delete anyone who is not nice on my wall and I have been deleted. It's not personal. It's just fb.

It's the only place where I can pick the people around me. It can be as private as you want it to be.

I prefer it to here. Where people do bully and threaten.

I forgot.... We were able to collect enough money to save a home. $12,000. She is a dog rescuer who had lost a job and by the time she got another one was losing her home. Time to give back to someone who had given so much. People from all over the US were there for her. Couldn't have done it without fb.

scottiee 12-11-2011 11:39 AM

Come ON !!!!

I am a member of FB and on it you can start a page about anything. Like half the people on it know anything about the Villages. Next what in the heck is this thing about STD? That that sounds like a lot of baloney to me where does that come where is the proof. I believe that as much as I believe that the Villages is a colony from Mars. NEXT I admit it I am jealous I have got to work another 4 years.
