IPAD 3 or laptop...?? Rumour has it..
that the 3 is coming out in February. Would you give up on your laptop or keep both?? Decisions, decisions....especially since my laptop video card just went further south than The Villages. Should I replace the laptop?? Or use the IPAD 1 until the 3 comes out and "share" the new one with my husband?!

Bought
Just pulled the trigger . I mean bought Ruth a Christmas Present!
Was getting her a newer Nook. Returned it bought a IPad 2 with 32 gig and 3 G service. It will run her Barnes and Boble account and do a Zilion other things. Still gonna get a Mac Book but I started with this. Watched her eyes when she played with the I Pad in the Verizon store. That was that. The Nook was hooo hum Ok the I Pad was Cool |
I understand. I bought my husband the Vizio notebook, but returned it. The keyboard is too small, the machine too slow, doesn't read books like an IPAD, yada, yada...Oh well....on to the next IPAD...I DO love mine!

I'm doing my civic duty for all those that have a 2 and want the 3.
Every time I buy something it seems within the next month a new model is released and mine is out of date? |

Ipads need to have USB connections, for cameras, external devices and such. Have to pay for Aps For ipad, a feature I'n not fond of. I have one sitting around collecting dust.
|
I think the new ones might have USB. Again, rumor? Anyway, there are so many free apps out there. I don't have enough time to use everything on mine. If you don't use yours, why don't you try and sell it? Probably go in a second with the holidays here.
|
My daughter bought us an Ipad2 for Christmas and it came the other day. It has a built-in camera so we can Skype with it. So far I love it.
|
I don't think you would be able to replace a laptop with an ipad. You can do many things with it, but one thing that might be an issue is that you cannot print from it unless you have a certain type of printer.
|
Hint
Tom,
I left a message with the Sales tech if my Wife wanders in as to which one I want. And me sitting on Santas lap at the mall was maybe going a bit to far! Merrry Christmas Guys |

I've owned my iPad 2 for several months and I find myself using it rather than my current laptop, much more than I expected I would. During our recent 12 day trip back to TV, I left my laptop home and just took my IPad. I did not miss my laptop at all and, best of all, I didn't have to lug it through the airports. I've enjoyed my IPad so much, I bought one for my wife for Christmas ( along with a good case ). Hopefully she'll enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed mine.
I will caution you that not all printers work with the IPad's proprietary printer SW. I have two rather new Canon printers and neither one will work. If you should purchase a new printer, make sure your printer is compatible with your IPad. You can find a list of compatible printers by doing a search. I'm not sure I would wait for the new iPad 3 based on a rumor. With most, if not all, electronics purchases, there will always be something a little better, often less expensive, in a short time after it is purchased. At some point you have to accept that - otherwise you'll find youself waiting for the next release and miss out on enjoying what you want to buy. Just my thoughts. If you purchase a warranty, you may want to consider square trade.com rather than Apple or another retailer. Square Trade offers plans that are less expensive and you can get coverage for breakage; an important factor for me with my Ipad. Again, just my opinion. Best of luck. |
Dan, thanks for the info. We discovered that last Dec. when we went Ro print our boarding passes to my "wireless" printer. Hope they expand the list, but there is still a printer available for under $100. It surely beats the laptop at the airport!!

I bought an HP1102W wireless monochrome laser printer for about $75 (online, on sale) and it works flawlessly with the ipad and my other network computers.
I'm sure there are also multifunction/color/inkjet printers that also fit the bill. |

He hates Skype... I'm waiting for the IPAD3. Enjoy your IPAD just fooling.... |
IPad2
Just bought my Son and Daughter a IPad 2 so we can Video Chat when we move to TV
Verizon will allow me to trade in on a 3 when it comes out. Till then It's a new learning curve after Christmas |
Ipad and computers
I have an IPHONE 4S, an IPAD 2 3g with the max of everything on it and a Lenovo laptop fully loaded. I also still work. You cannot use the IPAD in place of a laptop or a computer if you are wanting to run large programs, do Office programs and save files, etc....The IPAD is awesome for travelling, reading books, surfing internet, pictures, etc but if you need to do substantial work you need a laptop. I love technology and I upgrade all the time. It is nice to have all the options for different functions, but if you have real work to do electronically, choose a computer or laptop. The IPAD 2 is a luxury for communication, reading, surfing and some small work. Not for bigger projects. The keyboard is not fast like a computer keyboard. I love having all the options.

I've got an iPad2 on my Christmas list. Does anyone know if it will print to a Kodak ESP 7250 using the wireless function.
TIA, Bob |
Bob...the only printer brands (and not all models within the brands) supported directly by Apple for ipad printing are Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, and LexMark
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356 Here's a discussion thread specific to your brand/model. https://discussions.apple.com/thread...art=0&tstart=0 |
printers
I have an HP printer/copy/scanner with a great feature. I can print from my IPAD or laptop anywhere in the world, you just send whatever it is to a specific email address which links up to the printer and when you get home from wherever, your document or printer is there! Office Pro 8500 HP

Apple doesn't support it but Kodak has an app. So it looks like it's doable. If Santa is good to me, I'll find out first hand. Bob |
Printer
I have an Ipad2. I love it. I bought a HP Photosmart All In One(print - scan-copy printer) at Sam's about three weeks ago. Model is D110 and it has E Print and also AIR PRINT which is necessary to print from an I pad. Paid $39.00. Easy to set up and use with my Ipad. Photo quality is extremely good and I can put it anywhere in the house. I think that I also saw it on line at Sam's.
No problems so far. |

Best Buy
Maybe all should buy the IPad 2 from Best Buy and take advantage of the trade in value
That is if they have to have the latest and greatest. Although Verizon is thinking of doing the same- IMHO |
