Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
We need a Krispy Kreme in TV. Build it and they will come! NOTHING beats a fresh Dozen off the line! :bigbow:
|
KK
Amen!
|
I thought they went out of business as they are none in CT anymore.
There are two in Tampa and one in Orlando according to the store locator. |
Sam's carries the boxed Krispy Kremes but I don't know how fresh they are and there is no way we could eat that many donuts before they went stale. They are shipped in from somewhere but I have no idea where...it WOULD be good to be able to buy just one. When Albertson's was in Spanish Plaines we could buy them individually. They had a few in the bakery case and it was a nice treat every now and then.

Krispy Creme is very active in the Jacksonville Fl area!!
|
Another vote for Krispy Kreme! I haven't eaten a doughnut in 20 years but I would happily eat a Krispy Kreme.
|
On the other hand --I hope they never come to TV --I can't resist them!:ohdear:
|
Village residents are all health conscious and so do not eat doughnuts as it is bad sugar;)

Heard they closed due to a lawsuit. Found they clogged too many Arteries.:mmmm:barf

they used to be sold at the big city grill across from toojays in spanish springs...both gone now!

For several years here in Syracuse the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other organizations would arrange for Krispy Kreme donuts to be delivered from the Rochester area as weekly fundraisers, and they sold so well, there was a groundswell here for a Krispy Kreme of our own. The company listened, and built a large one. It was wildly popular for a few months, and lasted for about three years or so, but went out of business. The demand just wasn't maintained. The glazed donuts are great, but there is a lot of competition, especially the lower priced donuts from the large grocery chains like Wegmans and Price Chopper.
|
Soon after Krispy Kreme went public, about 15 years ago, they stopped selling franchises (I know, because I wanted to buy one). The stock plummeted and they started closing stores. Then Krispy Kreme started appearing in places like gas stations, hospital lobbies and supermarkets. So they are not out of business, just operating on a reduced scale.

Re Krispy Kreme Doughnuts
My 1st job out of HS was working for KKD's on highway 90 in Biloxi MS...
Nothing beats them fresh (or when they are day old/older..) Slice and butter each side,,,then broil! Thats Heaven:)) Ebsmom.... mouth watering now for a Krispy Kreme:icon_hungry: |
I thought I saw them in the boxes in Walmart on our last trip down. As was mentioned, I too did not want that many so I didn't buy them. Still drool though thinking about the ones I have had up north.

Just make sure when you eat the doughnuts, you eat them in pairs - never an odd number. That way you're spreading the load out evenly................

Another vote for the "HOT" sign in The Villages!!!

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

People were standing outside in line at 6:00 AM in 15 degree wind chill for the Grand Opening to receive ONE free doughnut. The place is packed and HOT DOUGHNUT sign is always lit. The new owner must be smiling all the way to the bank. I went to Krispy Kreme this morning and got a dozen off the line. My girlfriend and I consumed six before we knew it. ($6.99 a dozen) They are the BOMB! :bigbow: BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME! |
High crime areas
There was a plan in large cities to put the stores in high crime areas... This would dramatically increase police presence!:)
|
RACETRAK gas on 441 accross from Water Oak has Krispy Kreme both boxed and INDIVIDUALLY SOLD.
Pretty fresh probably from very early morning :icon_hungry: |

A few years ago, they finally came to LA and made such a big deal about it that the first store had lines around the block waiting to get the first donuts. Unfortunately, we had much better donut shops and most of us were terribly disappointed with KK's. I think they opened other stores but not to the great fanfare as the first one. Haven't had any donuts in TV as I've been on a diet,,,:icon_hungry: |

As soon as it's light out, I start eating. :jester: Back to the topic. I just saw an article that I can't find now about a fundraiser that is a 5 mile run by college students, (NC Wolfpack), that requires you run 2.5 miles to a Krispy Kreme location and have to eat twelve donuts and then run the other 2.5 miles back. Sounds challenging but I think I will pass. It's not the run that would stop me but eating twelve donuts. :) They are great donuts and one in TV would be nice. |
Short Fat Guy's Road Race
Quote:
At the end of the race, everyone waited for the last "runner" to arrive, and they all went over the finish line together, directly into the local pub. There was one guy who wore "Rambo" style X-shaped belts across his chest, lined with snickers bars and twinkies for easy access. ....But back to the topic of Krispy Kreme..... |
Sorry, but I'll have to be the dissenter here. I have enough sources for donuts here with Dunkin Donuts and Publix as well as the few new leads I've picked up in this thread. So I can have all the donuts I don't need without there being a KK added to the list. Actually, I've never had a KK donut that I know of even though there was one in Latham NY not too far to go to get any. They, like in Syracuse, only lasted about 3 years before going bye-bye!

Another vote for a Krispy's in The Villages!
The closest actual Krispy Kreme, apart from stuff sold at grocery stores, gas stations, etc, is in Gainesville. Oh, and if you are actually in a Krispy's, they make a glazed blueberry doughnut that is almost as good as the originals. Yum. |

KK is alive and well here in NC, their birthplace. Each year, here in Raleigh, they have the Krispy Kreme Challenge. It is a 4 mile (or thereabouts) race with a twist. You run from NC State to the Krispy Kreme (2 miles) in downtown Raleigh, there you eat a DOZEN donuts and then run (or waddle) back within an hour. Last year there were 7500 people registered for this race. This year, it is totally full already even though the race isn't for 2 more weeks. The organizers are a bunch of NC State alumni who started this race with 10 people in 2004. Last year, they raised 100 thousand dollars for NC Children's Hospital. Here is a link to a story from last year's race http://www.krispykremechallenge.com/...-puff-and-stuf |

When I worked in Ocala, had Tasty O donuts hot out the oven and they beat KK by a mile. They have a store in Belleview but I bet they aren't as good as the one in Ocala. May have to make an early morning run to Ocala one of these days for some but have to get there early as they often sell out by 9 am.

It's good to be young and be able to do this type of event and not have any adverse health issues. :) All in all, a worthy charity event. best wishes for al participants. Back to the topic of KK's in TV. Would a KK donut be your first choice and how far would you travel to get some? What is the realistic chance they will come to TV? |
We can get them in our local supermarket. They are made close by and are delivered fresh twice a da. But at $3 a pop, no thanks! I will wait until I come back to Florida in June!

[QUOTE=2BNTV;441533
What is the realistic chance they will come to TV?[/QUOTE] Very small. Several years ago they went on a major expansion from their base, went public etc. I even saw them in Hawaii. However, the rapid expansion ultimately killed them. Profits went down and many franchisees closed down. They really pulled back their operations for stores and are concentrating on looking for franchisees in major metropolitan areas at this time. It is very expensive to open a franchise compared to Dunkin Donuts and would require a large population to make it profitable. |
