Slowest Golf Cart in The Villages
It's me! Apparently my brand new golf cart that I purchased last month is the slowest cart in TV. My gps says that I am going 20mph. My wife clocked me in the car and she confirmed that I am going 20mph. But in a month of driving all over in my cart, I have not passed a single cart and have been passed by scores of non street legal carts. hmmmmmmm!

i drive a street legal and get passed every day by golf carts! usually gas driven types.
|
Aa long a the GPS says 20 you are legal. It isthe rest of the cart.
Some pass me like I am standing still and I know mine goes 20. |
Why are they driving so fast??????
I have the same problem....mines does 21 mph. I get passed quite often. I just don't understand this. We all have moved down here to relax and enjoy our wonderful retirements...what are these people rushing for??????
|
Our cart goes 19.9 mph...the legal limit if you're not a "street ready" cart. Many folks pass us as well. Had a conversation the other day with a guy who said his used to go 19.9 but "he" changed it to go 30mph because he wanted MORE power!!! If he indeed did this...I'm told THAT'S illegal!!
|
i get passed all the time but its not a problem for me. i dont care how fast others want to go! im doing 25 because thats all it will go. im legal to do so. if these governor passed gas carts want to go faster i say god bless em !! as long as they arent endangering others.

Last year when when I rented in TV I was passed a few times on the golf cart paths -- I thought it was just me being a poky newbie driver. Glad to know I'm not the only one who gets passed on the golf cart paths. I was in TV to relax and enjoy myself and the beauty of TV, not re-enact the Daytona 500. If I want to race other drivers, I can do that commuting to and from my job every day. JMHO.

We sometimes pass others when driving our cart but not because we're speeding. Our cart is set to 20 and we've clocked it and know it's accurate. We have an EZGO with an AC motor and it keeps at a constant speed. Many carts slow down when going uphill but we don't. That's when we sometimes pass.
|
Ours is just as slow as we only go up to 17 mph. I am passed all the time. But the cart came with the house we bought and we spent the money to put new batteries in which is less expensive to buy a new one. It is a 1993 and it gets us to where we want to go and that is fine with us right now.
|
Would a larger tire give you an edge? We have ones that are a bit bigger and we seem to do well. Ours is an electric EZ GO.

I misunderstood why you posted and thought you were speaking to keeping up with golf cars that travel at the appropriate speed. Sorry 'bout that! |

I wonder if a "street legal" cart that has the capability of exceeding 25 mph could also lose its designation as a "street legal" vehicle. |
Thanks

In my little EZ Go electric about all I pass are little old ladies on bicycles going uphill. (Apologies to little old ladies on bicycles.) |
I have not experienced in the slightest degree the amount or extent of golf cart passing explained in these posts. For one thing there are far too many pedestrians, and bicylist on the golf paths to warrant such passing and for another a long line of slower carts that makes passing difficult.
I can see why so folks want speedier golf carts given the distnaces some will travel to paly golf or go to a town center. Can you imagine how long it would take a resident living on the north side to travel to the new town center being built on Rte 44. Because of distances and because The Villages pushes this as a golf cart coomunity their will be heavy pressure on increasing speed for golf carts which will necessiate changes to golf carts paths |

Our golfcart does 20.5 MPH. We are amazed how many people pass us out with their souped up carts. It seems that some of the carts can hit high 20's or low 30mph and they are not Street Legal!!! What's the rush??? Bailey Trail and St. Charles are where I experience these NASCAR drivers. These streets are busy enough with cars and trucks, and they think nothing of coming out in front of the vehicles to pass someone. I would love to see more police tagging these speeders.

Not sure why everyone gets so upset if they're passed by another cart... :undecided: |

Perhaps it bothers some because they see it as circumventing the law and avoiding the increased fees of a street legal cart and, thereby, unfair to those who run at 20mph or pay the fees for street legal. |

I have a quick cart. Many times the extra fast speed came in handy, getting out of the way with some drivers. If you pass fine,if you go slow fine.

Safety
This has been gone over before. You can make em go fast but you cannot safely steer or stop at speeds over 25 mph. The Carts were NOT designed to perfom at those speeds.
Now a street Legal LSV like a Tomberlin or EZ Go , Gem could get away with 30+ because of " Real Brakes" and a balanced suspension. Because of the insanity of increased polulation and amount of carts my wife is lobbying to not get us a Golf Cart and to instead, Within the VILLAGES or just outside buy a used Smart for Two. Hmmmmmm Spage Cage safety cage! AC, real brakes heater wipers and a convertible model for fun. I'll just put a street legal plate on it! " Laughing" |
