Sleep Number Bed VS temperpedic
 

Can I get some opinions on which of these mattresses is best. It is a big investment and I want to make the correct one.

I'm for tempurpedic. Had one for10 years. Can sleep for 4 hours in one position, no pressure points. In all fairness, I never slept on a sleep number but daughter has one and loves it. This reply doesn't help at all, does it?

Don't mean to rain on your parade but some say the sleep number is a "glorified air mattress". But who cares if it does the job! Don't have either....going to get a Sterns and Foster. Never had one of those either but heard they were good.

You'd have to fight me to get my Tempurpedic away from me... We've had it for 9 years. Had a problem with the 1st mattress and the company replaced it immediately. Best $$ you will spend. Buy the most you can afford.

We once had a Stearns and Foster and agree with you! When it got replaced...think the place that sold them was out of business so we didn't get another but I'd go for it if given the chance. Don't know about the two asked about in the post...though I've heard that foam doesn't "breath" and is hot!

I have to vote for the Relax in Comfort beds sold at LSL. We had a tempurpedic but I found the foam got too hot for me to sleep and be comfortable on. I love, love, love the bed that we purchased at Relax in Comfort. We have had it for 3 years and it is the best bed/mattress we have ever owned. My husband has problems with his sciatica and he sleeps like a baby. Best money we ever spent for sleeping. We have the king size adjustable bed and really worth every penny. Before you decide - you must go down there and try them out.

Purchased the Serta foam with the cooling gel layer. I have had neck, back and shoulder problems for years. All the diiscomfort is gone. I love the bed!

My vote is for sleep number for a very simple reason. I like a very soft mattress and my husband likes a very firm mattress. Other than twin beds our sleep number was the sensible solution. We've had ours for almost 9 years and love it. My husband used to wake up sore when we had a traditional mattress but that ended 9 years ago. Because of our glowing reports everyone in our family and most of our friends sleep on sleep number. I believe I did see that the new select comforts have memory foam pillow tops!

I put in a vote for Relax in Comfort, too. I have a different latex bed, a FloBed, but if I didn't have that one, the adjustable bed from Relax would be my choice.
My Flobed is a king with the capability of changing the latex layers to just the right comfort level.

Friends have Temp mattresses and love them. Personally, for me they're not comfortable and I find them a tad warm.

One day, put on your most comfortable, relaxed clothing, grab your pillow, and head to mattress stores. Hop into each bed you're considering and spend some time getting comfortable. If you and your spouse prefer different levels of firmness, then make sure you get something that allows each of you to attain the exact level of comfort you want....believe me, a very comfortable bed is worth each and every penny you spend...and alas, it might be lots and lots of pennies... ;)

We've had a Tempurpedic for 5-10 years. We love it. I get the best sleep I've ever had and my back never hurts when I wake up in the morning (like it did with my old Serta. We went with the Tempurpedic because my wife has Osteoporosis and needs a great bed for her back.

I can't say anything about the 'Sleep number', but I really endorse the Tempurpedic.

I have slept on both and my vote is a Sleep number because the Tempurpedic seemed to hold the heat from my body in the mattress and I got hot.
The sleep number lets me change my mattress setting with the way I feel that week.
I love mine.

...Had a Temper-Pedic for 6 months.....did not like it, felt like it made you feel too warm.....
...gave it to my sister. She totally LOVES the Temper-Pedic.

...Then got a Sleep Number CLONE and loved it.....
...
...Now on the 3rd sleep number CLONE. The 1st two are still in service at kids' houses.

I have had a Tempurpedic for several years. I love it but it can get warm.

Of course up here where in winter you need chains to keep the bedsheets from flying of the bed with the windy NY winters it's a good thing.

We have heard rave reviews of Serta's I Comfort being as good as the Tempurpedic yet cooler to sleep on. Tried one in the store and felt it might be a mattress we buy.

Did try the Sleep number. I would go back to a Tempurpedic however I would never go back to anything with Coil Springs.

We bought Twin Tempur-Pedic beds in December from Mattress Firm near Cracker Barrel on Hwy 27/441. Have them side by side and it is like having a king size bed with separately adjustable controls. Liked the idea that they give you 100 days to try it in your home. If not satisfied they will take it back and replace it with something else. This take back offer does not apply to the adjustable bed component, which could be used for other brands. So far, wife and I have nothing but good thoughts about Tempur-Pedic. Were originally concerned about it being too warm, but that has not been a problem. Our Chiropractor recommended Tempur-Pedic, because he has had one for years and since we have gotten used to the new beds, our morning back pains are history.

Have a friend who has Sleep Number bed and likes it very much. There are no stores in this area that carry this brand so you would have to travel to check them out or, go on their website. We were able to try several Tempur-Pedic models at the local store, including the adjustable bed.

Our only concern now with the Tempur-Pedic beds and their 20 year warranty, who do we leave them to in our Wills.

For comfort the the temperpedic is ok,however I had issues with the mattress, and had to fight the company tooth and nail both in Louisiana and here in Florida. Here in the Villages When I call about a problem, the local company want a deposit of $180.00 just to com out and look at the mattress. When I contacted the home office, they stated that was a local posicy and would not get involved. Went to Southern Lifestyles and got a GREAT Mattress with a GREAT Return Policy and Maintaince Policy.

Which Sleep number clone did you get. I have seen Dreamnumber and Simply Rest on the internet and was on a Relax in Comfort in the store at LSL. We are heading in the direction of an Airbed for down south although we have a memory foam up here in Canada. The warmth isn't a problem at this time of year! It is -16C this morning.

We have had both. I have had 2 back surgeries, several ruptured discs since my early twenties, and now have arachnoiditis, so the right mattress is very important to me.Have tried firm, soft, every type of water mattress, Select Comfort, and Tempurpedic. The Select Comfort and Tempurpedics have worked best for me, with the Tempurpedic being the one we brought down with us when we moved down full time. While the sleep number was very comfortable (we had the model with massage and adjustable head and feet), it did let you feel pressure points, while the Temp. doesn't. The downside to it is that it does get warm. We just keep the fan on when we sleep. Try them both and you can't go wrong with either. Saw a mattress at Showcase Direct that they told me was memory foam and was cooler than Temp., might want to check that one out.

Have had the Tempurpedic now for over 3yrs and love it. No problems. We bought one that was firm enough to help my back problems.

I'm 100% sold on my sleep number but it's only fair to share that if you want a soft side and a firm side the difference is a tiny bit obvious even when the bed is made. Hard to get a totally smooth effect! I compensate by using a fluffy down blanket and fluffy filled duvet but if you want a tight, smooth tailored effect you won't have it with a combo of soft/firm sleep number!

To prevent overheating, you can put a couple of quilted mattress pads on top of the mattress, under the sheets.

We have a sleep number bed with adjustable base. My husband says all the time what a great investment it was.

We have had Tempurpedic for several years and love it. No back pain since the first day. Two things to keep in mind. The foam gives off an odor for several months. Some people are bothered by the odor. Depending which model you get the Tempurpedic can be very heavy, which can make moving the mattress very difficult.

My husband and I are in the same position wanting a new bed and between the Temperpedic and Sleep Number. We previously had a 3" dense foam bed topper that we only had on the bed for a few nights and here's the reason why: when we first layed down on it it was rock hard due to the cold room temperature (maybe not a huge problem in Florida) and then as our bodies heated it up we sank VERY far into it and I found that I was not able to move or turn over without first grabbing on to my husband for leverage. Literally stuck in that position like I was in encased in packaging material or sinking in qucksand. We couldn't sell it so we cut it into dog beds. My husband is a big guy so we have concerns about the chambers in the Sleep Number not holding up. Anyone know about this? What about permanent dents that don't recover in the Temp. beds? I find myself trying to sleep in the very center of our King bed now to look for the only spot that hasn't sunken down yet and my wonderful husband indulges me by taking what's left on his edge. Our bed isn't that old, cost enough to expect more so we don't want to make a mistake again.

I have had both temperpedic and Sleep Number. While I really liked the Temperpedic at first, after I had back surgery it didn't give me enough support. My husband and I also can set our firmness at different levels, and that is a plus.

I suspect it's a matter of personal preference.

I got my SleepNumber in Michigan. At least there you could try the mattress for a month and return it if it didn't work for you. I'd say that's worth a shot.

Just kidding! Did not know you could try out one for a month. That is a plus.

Buy a Tempur-Pedic,they are the very best.Of course it doesn't hurt that the founder lives in my "Village" in Lexington,so most of us in the neighborhood have one.Plus, every charity function in Lexington, he always donates a Tempur-Pedic to be auctioned off.Great mattress with a founder who is a terrific philanthropist.Tempur-Pedic is the Mercedes-Benz of mattresses.

:agree: We've had our Sleep Number bed for about tens years. We love it for the same reasons you mentioned. He likes a firmer mattress, I like a softer mattress. I noticed a difference within a week of purchase-no more back or hip pain.

Relax in Comfort
 

Well, we have had both. the Temperpedic after about a year kind of fell apart. We then got a Sleep Number Bed (not adjustable) and had that for 7 years! It was great. We decided to look at Relax in Slumber in Sumter Landing and bought the adjustable number bed! As expensive as is was it is every bit worth it! :spoken:

We've had a Sleep Number for over 10 years .... back when they were called "Select Comfort" beds. Love it, although we never used a theraputic.

Wonder why they changed the name? Was not Lindsay Wagner their best spoke's person ? Were they bought out?

I did get a kick out of listening to the radio talk show hosts sleeping around on one or the other brand depending on who was the sponser.

I see a new line was just introduced. Memory foam just made it to their beds.

Have to try one out. Seems like TOTV is 50/50 split. How cool to have our own consumer reports for all to read.
