Mitch Daniels fires a shot across the Gingrich Bow

Opened the republican response to the state of the union address by commending the president for his strong family example, something sorely needed in these times. Take that Newt!

Guest 01-25-2012 10:52 AM

Guess he had to commend him about something, certainly couldn't commend him about any accomplishments or the direction he has taken the country.

Guest 01-25-2012 11:27 AM

Tell you what; I'll commend the President for something also.

About 62 minutes into his speech President Obama said (paraphrasing) "Send me a bill outlawing insider trading in Congress, and I'll sign it".

Can't do anything but applaud that line, and that challenge to Congress.

Guest 01-25-2012 12:02 PM

There must be something wrong with my computer!

I think I just read that RichieLion commended President Obama for something he said in the State of the Union speech.

Guest 01-25-2012 12:11 PM

I thought the same thing. Thought I better get my eyes examined.

It would also be heartwarming to hear any one of the current candidates or any sitting politician bring up a proposal for "term limits." So far they remain solidly united and 100% silent on the idea.

I'm not the one of those guys who's a "one trick pony". It's the liberals here who defend their guy against any attack and won't admit he's ever made a mistake, which is ludicrous.

I criticize him often because of his policies and with a thought towards the substance of the issue involved. This is one time I can agree with him, and I'm not the ultra partisan you think I am that I won't say it.

The fact that this is the first time you can recall me saying anything positive about something he said speaks to him more than me.

Wonderful talk, but then we all knew this is always nothing more than a re-election campaign speech.

We all know how many campaign promises made in the Dog & Pony Shows are actually kept.

That's Richie. Forever substance over style.

precisely Obama will continue to spew populists sayings because people receive them so easily without foregoing the details. Beside which as they fail he can continue to blame bush, congress or others

Rubi, The first sentence in your post would also be applicable to any of the republican challengers, with the exception of Ron Paul. And with Paul, the problem is, he WOULD try to do everything he says he would.

Richie, don't wait until I'm indigo blue holding my breath awaiting Congressional action on that one. You can begin resuscitation effoerts when I'm just baby blue.

Guest 01-25-2012 05:10 PM

Would have been great if he said he would push for that bill and support it in congress, do everything he could within his office to support it......

OTHERWISE....

Just another political ploy

It'll never get written, let alone passed and we're in agreement on that. It was interesting of Obama to throw the gauntlet, never the less.

How come Obama's media isn't touting that line? Am I the only one who heard it?

Maybe I was asleep having a weird dream.

eweissnbach: Perhaps. However none of the Republican challengers is the President of the United States and Obama has diminished the country and himself. Remember France's leader quote aboutObama (Est il faible) He is weak?

No argument, but one of the republicans may one day be president and I would like to think we could expect better of them, but not confident we can.

What credibility does Gov. Mitch Daniels have? As President George W Bush's OMB director, all he did was spend down the projected federal budget surplus.

Really?; even if what you said was true, I don't see why you'd be concerned with it.

The man you adore spent us into losing our top credit rating and still wants more money to spend.

The man you adore make Bush's spending look "bush league".

According to the CBS News Poll, 91% approve of President Obama's proposals in the state of the union speech. Check it out: 91% for 9% against

All this poll says is that the CBS audience is 91% Democrat.

The state of the union address was broadcast by every news network, over-riding their usual programming. Why change the channel away from the network and/or talking heads you were already watching.

"It's the liberals here who defend their guy against any attack and won't admit he's ever made a mistake, which is ludicrous."

I am still laughing at this Richie comment about Obama never admitting he made a mistake. I so clearly remember the shrub saying he could not recall one thing he did wrong while he was president. Now THAT was ludicrous.

Oh, give me a BREAK!!!!!!!

Right here on the CBS website, they tell how CBS and Knowledge Network "assembled a scientific sample of Americans to watch the speech and then respond to our poll questions online"!!

Poll Response to State of the Union 2011 - CBS News Video

And you believe this crap about a "scientific", "objective" poll....OMG...

....and millions of other sheeple take one source of "news" and do no other searching for other reports online where thousands of news outlets are available.

Guest 01-26-2012 06:30 PM

The difference in this year's speech is President Obama said he's going to accomplish things without congress. He's willing to work with anybody, anytime, he said, but he'll do whatever he can on his own.

Guest 01-26-2012 06:58 PM

The original post referred to Mitch Daniels firing a shot.......

I recall when Mario Cuomo decided he was going to run. However his campaigning ended quickly. I was glad. However a month or so later they video a news media's breakfast, one Mario cuomo attended. during the breakfast a reporter interrupted Mario's breakfast. He had asked Cuomo's opinion about a heated debated subjects among the remaining candidates. Marion finished chewing, wiped his lips with a napkin and said in an even and common voice said in effect . It would be inappropiate for me to answer that question because I am not running and it would be easy for me to finesse a response. Its just not fair and I am not going to comment. Bravo Mario. I gain so much respect for him that day.

So I say to Mitch. You lost your right to comment. Your opinion lends no more credibility than any other voter.

Hey, Mitt Romney has made the same comments - about how on "Day One" he's going to sign Executive Orders for all kinds of things.

I think he's mostly talking about orders that would reverse Obama Executive Orders, and eliminate the Emperor's unaccountable government ministers; otherwise known as "czars".

Romney's avowed first "order" would be, he claims, an order to authorize all states to opt out of ObamaCare. It the same procedure that Obama used to allow his political backers, like the unions and select corporations, to opt out.
