Long Island Club

Is there a Long Island Club? Where and when does it meet?

Thanks

There was one once but it closed. We on TOTV discussed starting a new LI club and I was going to try to put something together. But because I am a snowbird and am having lots of company over the next few months, I feel I don't have time to spend to get something going. There was lots of interest and a LI club should be successful but unless someone else takes charge, forming one will have to wait until next year. What part of LI are you from, Murfice?

murfice 02-08-2012 08:15 AM

Long Island Club

We are from North Babylon and are snowbirds also

Welcome!

i am from deer park!! maybe we could just have a big Long Island party one evening? all it takes is to get a room at a rec center near you, reserve a night and post it on here and maybe in the recreation news! a monthly club is a lot of work and the last club folded because of lack of help, but a one-time party, with everyone bringing pot luck, and maybe some ice breakers for everyone to be forced to mingle, could be a lot of fun....ideas anyone?

From the previous thread about LI clubs, the posts and PM's I received tell me there is much interest. Your idea of one meeting is a lot less troublesome than a monthly commitment. If people agree, I will check with Sterling Heights or Fishhawk Rec Centers and see if we can be given a room near the end of the month. Are we interested. Can I ask for a room big enough to fit 30 people?

A show of hands... Who is interested? I don't want to book a room and be the only person to show up.

murfice 02-08-2012 01:16 PM

Long Island Club

Definitely interested

2newyorkers 02-08-2012 01:34 PM

We are snow birds from Coram and would also be interested.

IF is a big word. But I believe we will need a large room. I'll look into it before the end of the weekend.

chachacha 02-08-2012 08:53 PM

Long Islanders.

That is a good question... When I approach the rec centers...what day do I try to book? I fear a weekend room might be not available. I suppose an evening meeting is better... A shame The Villages do not have an Eisenhower Park where we could all just gather at either the picnic area or at the stage. It wouldn't matter if twenty people showed up or a hundred. There would be plenty of room.

And yes, this could be a yearly event. I'll keep everyone posted to let you know what is available and when. And like Cha Cha said, once we have a date, we can spread the word. Maybe fellow Long Islander, Billy Joel could stop by and supply the entertainment.

MsBrown 02-09-2012 09:01 AM

Also interested in LI club........... let us know.

I am working on it, but with company visiting until Monday I will be unable to do much until then. I already have a backup plan if the original plan doesn't pan out. Please be patient.

Let's do it

Let's do it , Dix Hills LI

linandvin 02-15-2012 07:44 PM

Let us know if you need any help. We also have company until Monday morning but can help Monday afternoon. Eisenhower Park is 1,075 miles away! The food might get cold!

coralway 02-15-2012 08:24 PM

I'm a TV part-timer from Manhasset.

If I'm in town then, I'm in.

jimbo2012 03-25-2012 07:15 PM

How about Riverhead!

mojoe 03-26-2012 10:45 AM

Friends and I were just discussing Riverhead. Growing up in Brooklyn, we had a house in Riverhead, Flanders Rd, and we would go there for most of the summer. My parents rented these cabins that were on the property. There wasn't much to do there then but we had good times.

mgm4444 03-26-2012 05:43 PM

Hey Frank, I'm from Commack! not to far from Dix Hills. Any ideas on what a 1993 Ez-go golf cart would sell for?

Tom Hannon 04-27-2012 10:31 AM

I have encountered some serious health issues and my desire to start the Long Island Club is on hold. Eventually, when I'm more "betterior" I will get something going. But it might not be until early next year. The idea of a LI chat room sounds like a good idea. We can also do something not so formal and meet somewhere and at least get the ball going. A few rec centers have a picnic area and we can just meet there and get to know each other. Any one interested? PS: I grew up in East Meadow and later lived in Ronkonkoma. My wife is from Patchogue.

linandvin 04-27-2012 10:49 AM

How about next Saturday or Sunday for a brunch around 10:00? We could meet perhaps at the picnic tables at Sterling Heights, or any of the others. Bring a small dish to share before it gets too hot?

Sounds good to me. Give me a day to think about it and time to get out a new post to gather the LI people. It should work.

Wasn't Eisenhower Park something? One of the things I miss about Nassau County. That and Borrelli's on Hempstead Tpk. and Merrick Avenue.

linandvin 04-27-2012 02:39 PM

We will have to create our own park down here...maybe NassSuff Park to combine the two counties.

chachacha 04-27-2012 04:25 PM

belmont park

since i grew up in deer park, i am more familiar with argyle park in babylon, where i went to high school, and belmont lake state park! good memories...i would love a picnic at sterling heights...coralway and i are always at odds on the political forum but i will try to restrain myself :)

Tom Hannon 04-27-2012 04:41 PM

A quick show of hands. Will Saturday May 5 around 11:00 work for everyone to have a Long Island meeting. Nothing formal but it will be something to get our feet wet with. Before anything is definite, I will need to clear it with Sterling Heights officials. I don't see a problem but it would be better to make sure. If the meeting is a go, I will pick up name tags. Linandvin have offered to help out. Again... who can make it?

My LSV starts Monday afternoon...rats....I'm gonna miss it by 2 days! I'm from Patchogue, now live in Yaphank (also spent a number of years in Coram). Hopefully, I'll be there soon. I hope it goes well!

Where is Sterling Heights?

linandvin 04-28-2012 08:58 PM

Sterling is after Buttonwood and Tamarin Grove. Near the bottom...near 466a. St. Charles. We are aiming for Sunday morning 10:00. Awaiting confirmation.
