Happinow......a grandmother???

I must admit, I certainly feel too young but my only daughter is expecting my first grandchild. Let's see, should I be called grandma, granny, nana? I guess it will be whatever they can pronounce! Not only will I be shopping for my new home but I think I'll pick a onsie or two, or some booties, or diapers, or.....

I think she is due in September.:MOJE_whot:

jblum315 02-21-2012 09:21 PM

I'm called Mimi by my granddaughters. My late husband insisted he was too young to be called Grandpa and settled on "Uncle Grandpa."

chuckinca 02-21-2012 09:22 PM

Down here it's Mimi! My oldest daughter is a Mimi and my wife is a Nana.

What's an Onsie? Found it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onsie

Better get some nitsers too.

Wow! To be blessed with a new TV home AND a first grandchild in the same year? Can life get any better than this? I think NOT. Congratulations!!! I have only one grandson, but he's the love of my life. He'll be 11 next month.

Happinow 02-21-2012 09:30 PM

What's a nitser? I'd better look that one up. I thought I'd heard of everything.

Bettiboop 02-21-2012 09:59 PM

I'm called everything from grandma, gramma Betty, grams, grammie, G-ma........and my 15 yo grandaughter whom I play a part in raising and disciplining sometimes calls me Grambo!

Re.....Grandmother....

Congratulations Happinow!! What an exciting year for your family.
Our youngest son and wife are due any day now to sign formal papers for the adoption of "3" kids. A blessing for them and for the kids that they will be staying together ages...2, 3 & 5! I am pinned as Grandma Bev and hubby is known as Grandpa Super Dave..Looks like a wonderful year for both of us:)

Congratulations.

My grandson calls me Boompa.

Dennis Ga 02-21-2012 10:40 PM

Congrats, there is nothing like being a Grand Parent. My Wife is called Granny and I'm PaPa, and there is nothing better than when they say PaPa will you.... and it don't matter what it is you want to do it for them.

RichieB 02-21-2012 10:49 PM

You are SO right !

jmac1031 02-21-2012 11:00 PM

Grand Parents

Congratulations!!
We just had our 6th and we are not 60 yet. The oldest turned 13 at Christmas!! They are truly a blessing! Having them young allows you to really experience and build family traditions. We know they will be looking forward to visiting us in TV. They are made our move easier, they moved away from us first!!!
Enjoy the blessing!

It goes fast. Enjoy every second of it. ....and it just keeps getting better. They light up our lives. Their parents have done such a good job! We are still gaga (shortened to Ga) and papa.

The picture of the LITTLE girl is the same girl.

Lynnelf 02-22-2012 08:17 AM

Congratulations! We are called Mom-mom and Poppy by our five beautiful granddaughters. I can hardly wait for the house to be finished, so they can start visiting us here in The Villages!:)

We started late and our kids started late, but we now have 4 grandkids 10yrs. -6 mos. so it all works out. Had to share the latest pic of the youngest 2, but don't know if it will work.

They call me Nana and DH is Dadoo 'cause the first grand couldn't say Granddad and the name has stuck. We wonder if it will stick as they get older but it is cute for now and easy for the young ones to pronounce.

I am Grammy to an almost 4 year old boy. When we first purchased in TV he was living in Orlando which was going to be great but I always thought the closer we got to moving down to TV for good it would be my luck that they would find their way back up north.
They moved back up here last Oct. I spend every Monday with him and as busy as it can be I take in every minute.
We put our home on the market a few weeks ago and when he saw the sign he ask what it said. After explaining what the plan was he thought about it for awhile and then said, "Grammy, how am I going to find you?"

I know so many of you have done this but it has to be so hard to leave these little ones when you are such a part of their lives and they hold your heart in their hands.

Happinow 02-22-2012 09:58 AM

Thanks for your thoughts

Thank you all for your thoughts and photos of your grandchildren. They really are precious. I will have to visit them in North Carolina which is only a short plane ride away and for that I feel grateful. Mr. and Mrs. Bike, moving away is tough but just think of the fun they will have visiting you? It will be wonderful for them. They will experience your world and have a ball. They will remember the visits for ever.

I will love what ever my grandchildren call me. I'm sure it will be cute.

We used to call my grandparents Nanny and Dadoo. Never heard that before from anyone. Made me smile to read it. ;o)

Happinow, wow... a new home and a baby. There is no way to express what a joy a grandchild is. Until I held my granddaughter in my arms and saw her face, I counldn't really 'get it'. I thought I did, but oh, my, she makes me stupid happy. She will take my face in her baby hands and look me right in the eye and say, "I love you, Grammy" and everything else in the world disappears at that moment. I'm so very happy for you.

We've always called it a nook or a nummy. My daughter would suck on her pacifier and it sounded like num, num, num so we called it a nummy.
