Very Blue house for sale

I've read a lot about adhering to TV standards, but I saw this house up for sale today - it is in Calumet Grove. Is this color generally OK? If not, I am wondering why it has not been repainted. Any guesses?

....Beauty IS in the eye of the Beholder !!!!
Been to a home close to that one, in the past week.
The house you refer to ..."Looks good"...IMHO
.....Don't know if WE are limited to "PRIMARY" Colors....
.........BUT... that color shows up on the primary chart.

Just an observation..and my opinion,only.

I think that colors add life to a community. When owners individualize a home to his tastes, you end up with a deverse unique community. Nothing is more boring or drab than a community with cookie cutter, white or beige homes. Although blue would not be my color of choice, the home looks great and I'm sure has pleased the owner as he made it his own. Nothing like living in a country where you can express yourself, and live your life, without others deciding for you.:ho:

...different strokes,.....every now and then I see one that makes me convinced the owner is color blind.

Bogie Shooter 02-22-2012 01:49 PM

There are no restrictions on house color except in some villa neighborhoods.

Blue House

I look at the blue house discussed here from my window. It is indeed a "house of a different color" almost a turquoise (bright). The neighbors can't wait for a new owner with a paint brush to move in. It is a custom Lantana and the owner had some good and not so good ideas when she redesigned the interior layout.
It has a huge master room closet and a walk in pantry, however no lanai. Neighbors often refer to it as the `Easter egg house".

Happinow 02-22-2012 03:05 PM

Different strokes for different folks

Different strokes for different folks but it seems that this may be an eye sorer. We just got done specking out our home this past week to build in Sanibel and we purposefully went over to our lot to see what the other colors of the homes in our cul de sac were because we liked the color yellow that the builder is offering and wanted to make sure it would go. After looking at the houses, we saw that one house on one side was green and the other one next to us was gold in color. We just couldn't bring ourselves to paint our home yellow as it would have clashed with our neighbors gold color. we chose tan/brown instead. we didn't want everyone looking at our home saying "what were they thinking?"

mr and mrs bike 02-22-2012 03:15 PM

The blue might not be an ideal color for most but once someone buys the home and paints it they will have a great place. The location looks really nice as well as the photos from inside. You might have the biggest home or the smallest home in the area but inside it' still just 4 walls. It's what you do with it that makes it your own and if you're lucky your neighbors will hopefully approve.

keithwand 02-22-2012 03:53 PM

OMG; that is exactly the color I am looking for on our new house.
It should look great and I think Bonifay CC might even use some of that color.
I can't wait to see how it turns out.
I'll bet if happinow had only known before they went with boring brown and tan.
Whew the meds just wore off.
However it might look good in Miami Beach although my neighbor has a Navy Blue house with tan trim so we tell friends visiting for the first time to look for the Blue house and we are next door.
Can't wait to show off my knee high dark socks and dress shoes with shorts...another thread?

angiefox10 02-22-2012 03:56 PM

Yes!

That is a very blue house!

There is one similar in style to the blue one on Tierra Del Sol that is Lime Green.

This answers the original question.

And people wonder or complain about architectural/exterior restrictions! This is an example of why those are formed.

As long as the home is clean, safe, and is within current code, why should others judge what color is or is not appropriate. Colors should not be determind by a board. Again, this is nothing more than forcing a groups opinion onto others. There are communities where artist live, and their homes are just vivid with color. My OPINION is that they are refreshing. Others my disagree.:spoken:

batman911 02-23-2012 12:17 PM

Only thing missing is an old Cadillac with fins parked on the front yard beside a few pink flamingoes. This is one of the reason most people want to live in communities with strong community associations. Neighbors with exotic tastes can lower your property value.

angiefox10 02-23-2012 12:17 PM

The first time we were in TV (years ago) the sales rep told us we would have to have permission for the color we painted. We would not be allowed to paint a bright color nor could we paint the house a color the same as any other home on the street.

When they painted our home they switched the trim and the house color. When I checked the homes on my street, someone else had the same colors and with the trim and house color switched, it looks different.

graciegirl 02-23-2012 12:48 PM

Painting colors...is there a difference in restrictions north of 466 and south of 466?

There are different restrictions on lawn ornaments, north and south. It is stricter south of 466.

North of 466 is Blue.
South of 466 is Gray.

Sorry Gracie I couldn't resist.

2BNTV 02-23-2012 02:00 PM

The house looks like a turquoise color to me.

True story.

My father had a 1958 turqoise Cadillac on got a flat on the GW Bridge. He was getting out of the car and a woman rammed into the back of him.

She was wearing a Leopard coat, (the style back then), like a NY model. She got out of the car and yelled at my father "why didn't you have your blinkers on".

He replied, "if you can't see a turqouise Cadillac, how the he** were you going to see the blinkers.

Not passing judgement but the color is not appealing to me.

To each his/her own.

Thinking outside the box.......I like that.

jpharmat 02-23-2012 02:49 PM

I LOVE it !! The color screams "Florida" to me. Good for them.

anlashokna 02-23-2012 03:31 PM

Wow. Yeah that is a little on the aqua blue side for me. But have seen worse and actually did worse to a home we had many years ago. We made the mistake of using "blue jay" blue on a house ....the house was completely repainted the following week. LOL. Sometimes you just go whoa...nooooo. And I think we did it before the neighbors had a chance too! Again eye of the beholder. Someone will like the color or go...I can repaint it after I buy it.

So does that mean if your north of 466 you're a Yankee and if you south you're a Rebel?

Sorry Keith I couldn't resist either! :1rotfl:

Thats what I meant!

We'll be S. of 466A but definately a Yankee at heart although my wife would call me a "Rebel" (amongst other things). She does not always get my "humor" even after many years.

BobKat1 02-23-2012 04:54 PM

Well, it would be easy to give directions on how to find your house...

Humor wise we must be similar. I have been told that I have a dry sense of humor, and I guess they're right since I've left a path right up the middle of a person's head of hair more than once! http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...mileys-718.gif

...AL......... please go to OP (origional post) ( #1)

Quirky included the picture.....Simply CLICK ON the BLUE
wording that says "Properties of the Villages"

You may need sunglasses....
but IMHO that house SCREAMS "Flora-DUH"

...I actually LIKE the, shall we say, "whimsical" nature of the color choice.

Of course I also remember the finely crushed reflective glass that was
applied WITH the exterior paints, on COASTAL Florida homes IN THE 70's.

Very bLue house for sale

Nice looking Lantana, but the color cheapens it. I hear the neighbors hate the garish turquoise.

I believe a more accurate description would be that it screams Tijuana or Manila.

South Florida perhaps.

gerryann 02-24-2012 01:21 PM

I don't like it, I wouldn't buy it because it would require a lot of repainting. I also wouldn't want to look at it in my neighborhood. However, It's not mine and it's not in my neighborhood. If the owner liked it, I hope they find someone else who likes it so that it will sell. But....if it were mine and I had it on the market, I would paint it first before putting it on the market.

:agree: It might be more difficult when it comes to selling as their choice of colors seems to diminish the pool of available buyer's.

If they don't plan to sell, I guess their happy campers.

CTgolfer 02-24-2012 04:32 PM

On the same thought... there is a house in the area of Canal and O'Dell that was a lavender color on the outside. Before it was sold, the color was changed to a neutral gray... not sure if the realtor made the suggestion or not, but obviously, the pool of buyers for a "unique" color on the exterior of a home might be reduced.

They are limiting the number of people that will even look at the house, because of the color. How do you think it would effect the pricing and demand of their neighbors houses, if they decided to put their homes on the market.Because of the blue color they will not be able to maximize the selling price of their home, should have painted it before putting it on the market.Whoever finally buys the house will discount the asking price considerably, alot more than what it would have cost owners to repaint before listing it.Always remember, you make your money in real estate when you buy,not when you sell.
