Yep.... we were there right after it happened & before the police or ambulance. It was very close to the entrance to Hacienda Hill C.C. It looked like a single occupant in the golf cart, who was lying on the side of the roadway. It was obvious from the cart/car positions that the cart turned left in front of the car. There is no stop sign or traffic signal at this location.

Cart did have quite a bit of damage to the right side, but I believe the car must have not been going too fast or the damage would have been much greater.

Be careful out there....

That's horrible!!! Hope the driver is going to be o.k.!!! It's amazing MORE accidents don't happen here. Every time I'm out and about I see folks who just aren't thinking and/or looking!!! As the other responder said...PLEASE, be careful!!!

On the way to Lake Eye today, I was driving north on Morse, when a bit before San Marino Dr. a cart veered left into car traffic cutting off the car in front of me who braked in time, in order to pass 4 bicyclists, endangering not only himself but the bikers

You've got to watch everything out there.

For a retirement community, the driving in TV is much more difficult than in my home town. That doesn't seem right. You think they would have simplified things. There's too much going on.....cars, bilked joggers, and carts. Sensory overload!!! As you get older, your senses get worse. Not a good combination. More overload, less senses.

Yeah I have to agree with other posters...please everyone be careful. Cars and golf carts. We were visiting a few weeks ago and as I was driving through the spanish springs area, I had a golf cart blow a stop sign right in front of me. Luckily I wasn't going very fast and stopped, but the actual funny moment was the female occupant of the cart pointing at the stop signed as they flew by it. Can only imagine the earfull he was getting and of course the panicked look when he saw me hopefully made him realize he needs to watch what he's doing. It doesnt take but the one time.

Hopefully the driver of that cart will be okay.

This may be a little off topic but I have been trying to obey the new signs at the roundabouts. Yesterday I was going 3 quarters of the way around and I stayed in the inside lane as per the signage. There was a car in the outside lane to my right who cut in front of me to exit at tne next exit. She should have been in the inside lane also. This has happened to me a couple of times here. I think the signs are good but apparently there will always be some people who ignore them. Normally I try to stay in the outside lane regardless of where I plan on exiting.

We were in a golf cart and had to pull into the roadway because of 2 men strolling in the golf cart lane. Fortunately, there was no car traffic so we could move to avoid them as they were walking towards us. They clearly had no intention of moving out of the lane. Is that the norm?

In the past 2 days I've gotten really spooked. Yesterday we saw the accident on Morse between a bicyclist and car, with biker on the pavement and bike crushed. (paper today said he was stable thank God). Today it was the cart-car accident on Morse. I've never seen an accident before and now 2 in 2 days. Hopefully the people hurt today will be ok.

Have there been any car/cart - alligator collisions?

As long as I lived there, I don't ever recall that happening. Before I moved up from TV area; there had always been a lot of golf carts, seems like it's gotten worse and people driving them don't want to be cognizant of others. That makes for a bad mix.
We were all taught courtesy when learning how to drive our cars when we were in high school; it appears that courtesy and looking both ways has gone on the way side. Very sad.

Today I was driving around the square at Lake Sumter. We made it a practice to follow the law and always stop if someone is crossing the street.
I stopped to allow a very elderly couple cross and the car behind me started to blow her horn. After they crossed she drove up next to me, opened her passenger window and proceeded to scream at me for allowing them to cross and holding her up. She was almost out of control because I had stopped. I reminded her she probably would need the same consideration shortly and to be more thoughtful.
I looked at it as being sad for her since she obviously had lost touch with
the need to help others and apparently was living an angry life. :smiley:

Bicycle accident
 

Does anyone know the details of the bicycle accident? If the bicycle made a mistake I'd like to avoid making the same mistake since I ride 5 times a week.

Roundabout on Buena Vista
 

on the way to Cane Garden, we encountered a lady in a car making a LEFT turn in roundabout. Sure hope there was NO accident involved...,.Yipsters!

I have no details, only what I saw. The accident was on Morse and looked like the rider may have been going north and making a left turn onto maybe Carrera (south of San Marino anyway.) When we got there he was face down in the road and several people were trying to disentangle him from his twisted bike. Horrible!! I thought he was dead because he wasn't moving. In any case the paper said he was stable and in the hospital. Hope my prayers helped.

So, 2 left turn accidents off Morse. I'd love to see a Morse North recreation trail with tunnels and all, but I suppose that is unlikely. Not sure what we can do to enforce the speed limit. Speed bumps maybe?

I don't know what the norm is. It is not a golf cart lane. It is a multi modal lane. In my book pedestrians have the right of way. I do not expect them to jump up on the curb when I approach in my golf cart. I move into the car lane, if safe, or slow down or even stop. Many pedestrians here have difficulty walking and are unable to leap aside at the approach of every golf cart.

BTW, the law says we must give bicycles three feet. I think we can grant pedestrians the same.

What planet was this woman from? There's not a state in the country that doesn't have a law protecting pedestrians in a crosswalk. What would she have you do, run over them so she could get to her????? She not only lost touch with the need to help others, she's lost touch with reality.

I agree with Another Linda. Morse is SO busy. It is dangerous for cyclists, walkers and carts. I would love to see a separate multi-use trail.

:censored:December a year ago, my wife and I were accosted by a member of Lake Sumter PD T ABOUT 8:20 On a Sunday evening. We had stepped off the curb by the movie heading towards Johnny Roickets when the Police car roared up on us and stopped behind me and the driver informed me I should have backed off for him. I mentioned to him that I thought the pedestrian had the right of way. He said, not in Fl. He also told me that if I wished to find out for sure, he would ticket me and let the judge decide. The conversation escalated and we finally walked away.:22yikes:

Actually, the only multi-modal lanes are off of the roadway. The golf cart lanes on the roadway are designated for bikers and golf carts. The pedestrians walking there are making it easier on their feet (asphalt vs. concrete sidewalks) but they are playing it risky. Obviously, on streets with no sidewalks, pedestrians have no choice but to walk wherever they can, but they need to realize, even if they have the right of way, faster moving vehicles cannot always avoid slower moving objects.

They just upgraded Morse Blvd a year or two ago. But, I am still nervous driving a cart on Morse Blvd. I dont like to
drive my golf cart on a road that is mainly traveled by cars driving at, what I consider a high rate of speed, when I am on the side of the road. I really dont trust cars driving so close so the "alleged" cart paths.
I try to drive on the cart paths only.
Maybe that is why I dont play the golf courses north of 466 that much.
Its dangerous out there on the roads in a cart, in my opinion. Be that Morse Blvd., St. Charles, or Odell.
I really think more dedicated cart paths are necessary.
But, I guess it is too late for dedicated cart paths on the roads I have mentioned.

If you think about it....the percentage of folks in T.V. is possibly high in the fact that there are those who take medications for various issues. Then add to that...eye-sight not being that of a 20 year old, anymore. Disregard the being active put that aside....and the healthy aspect that's portrayed in all the "games" folks are playing. Look in the Sun and see ALL the ads for health-care of various kinds and ask yourself why they're there. I'd hate to know whose driving any kind of vehicle and using medications. Look at your pill bottles...most will say "don't operate a motor vehicle, use alcohol etc. while taking this" Could it be that there are folks who are kidding themselves and going about "Life" 'under the influence'. Add to this age, slower reflexes and more. I heard a story once about a guy who joined a 4-some and told the other folks they'd have to tell him where the ball went because he was legally blind. After the round he was observed to get in his car and drive away (true story!!!).

Well I always think of myself as typical. I take blood pressure medication and Prilosec and Boniva once a month. None of those have anything on them about driving a motor vehicle. I think that Dewars, Jim Beam and Johnny Walkers may be a little more to blame....and bad driving habits brought here from other parts of the country. Some people from large cities have always used public transit and some have rarely if ever driven and then they come here and drive golf carts.

As to Morse Blvd and separate paths, as the development has grown, the developers have improved many issues, including separate from the road cart paths on many streets where you drive over 20 mph.

No matter if all the paths were separate, and all the people were not drinking or taking medication that altered their judgement, and all of them could see well. Bad judgement and foolishness would still come in to play.

Drive as if everyone else is an idiot and don't drive like one yourself.

yes, that is my ONLY concern about living in TV. I always have worried that it's just too big. I LOVE the off the road multi modal paths, but there seem to be too many times when the golf carts have to cross automobile traffic to get to the rec centers, their mail boxes, or sometimes the golf cart paths go across a major road at a stop light (like Buena Vista/Southern Trace)

:agree:I TOTALLY agree with you......"the powers that be" NEVER expected TV to expand past 466 when the "Spanish Springs" area was developed. They have had to wing it and that's why the design is better south of 466.

Please tell me this is not the "lifestyle" everybody raves about. :22yikes:

Yes it is. Let's keep in mind it is estimated there are between 40,000 and 50,000 golf carts here. For the amount of accidents there seem to be it is safe way to get around.

If it is better, why no tunnel at Old Mill Run east of Buena Vista?

There are no sidewalks north of 466. I agree it makes no sense to walk in the street if there is a sidewalk. However, without sidewalks there is no other avenue, pun intended.

I am waiting for someone to chime in and correct me by stating there are sidewalks in Spanish Springs.
