Florida in Top Ten Most Miserable States
Noticed on internet today that Florida is in Top Ten Most Miserable States to live in.
9. Florida > Well-being index score: 64.9 > Life expectancy: 79.7 (12th highest) > Obesity: 26.6% (23rd lowest) > Median household income: $44,409 (15th lowest) > Adult population with high school diploma or higher: 85.5% (17th lowest) Florida’s state of well-being dropped significantly from last year, moving the state’s rank from 12th worst to ninth worst. The state had among the lowest scores in the well-being category that measures the work environment. Many Floridians do not have any work, as the state has the sixth-highest unemployment rate — currently 9.9%. State residents also are relatively unhealthy in many aspects when compared to other states. Florida has the eighth-highest rates of both heart disease and diabetes. The state also has one of the highest rates of violent crime in the U.S. Read more: America’s Most Miserable States - 24/7 Wall St. America’s Most Miserable States - 24/7 Wall St. I'm glad they didn't discuss the Bubble of The Villages! Perhaps people will go elsewhere to retire. Just kidding folks! |
The most interesting thing to me was the list of happiest States, quite a surprise! Well, Hawaii wasn't surprising, but some of the others were!

Very amusing. Kansas is listed as the 7th most happy state. Unless endless flat plains of dust and wheat stubble are you idea of paradise, I think perhaps they are adding 2 + 2 and getting orange.
In looking of the things in Florida that are bad it strikes me many of those are about people employed in the state, not retired there. With the huge service industry there, I'm not at all surprised. |

EDITED.
When I said it was cheesy, I was just joking about Rubicon's home state and all that fine cheese made up there. I have always said I don't like Florida in general as much as I love the isolated, well kept and beautifully thought out consistency of this large gathering place of interesting people called THe Villages. It appears that is so for a lot of folks moving here from other parts of the state. I would be enjoying living in The Villages no matter where it would be. |
Lucky for me, I am always in a happy state. :)

Gee, didn't know I was unhappy. If this is misery I'll take it. A little golf, a little dancing, some nice people ... hard work but someone has to do it

Anything would be an improvement to my home state of West Virginia. We came in last place. :( Honestly though, I have to question their statistics.
"West Virginia residents feel the most miserable in the country." |
Oh Boy, just the other day my wife said how happy she was to be here. Sure am not looking forward to her seeing this thread and finding out she is not happy. Guess that we will just have to go out to dinner tonight and easy her pain.

2nd worst
In Kentucky we used to say, "thank god for Mississippi" . Well now the saying is, "thank god for West Virginia"

It's my fault
I paid the evaluaters to give Florida a bad rating to keep everyone away from looking at TV until we can get there!!!!
|
I moved from the Northeast to Florida 40 years ago and I've got to tell you--I almost can't stand the misery!!! Only hope that I can experience another 40 years of this terrible state?? As other posters have mentioned, maybe it will help keep some of the wannabes away. Some of these indexes and reports are a real joke.

Shhh, mum’s the word on the number 5 spot.

Huh?
North Dakota is one of the happiest states and yet I recently read yet another top (or bottom) ten that listed several counties in North and South Dakota as the poorest in the country???
Guess they were not interviewing on the reservation. :crap2: Can't wait to join the misery in TV. |
Like ANY large, heavily populated state, Fl has a lot of good things as well as a lot of not so good things.
|
I would like to live amongst the "unhappy"
If that is what unhappiness is... then bring it on..
|
"Fools rush in, so here I am ... Very glad to be unhappy
I can't win, but here I am ... More than glad to be unhappy" |
I think people would be happier living in the cold northeast, where they tax you to death, where a second job pays to heat your house in the winter, and a third job will pay to cool your house in the summer. And don't forget about the school taxes that are equal to the total property taxes in The Villages. I guess I'll just be a gluton for punishment living in The Villages.:cold:
