Priest speaks out!
sorry i do not know how to do links, but there is a great post going around about Father Sammie Melletta (spelling?) of St John the Evangelist parish in Indiana. he gives an eleven minute homily about the assault on religious liberty and a warning about the socialist agenda of this administration which with an uproar over an insignificant issue like contraception seeks to marginalize religion from American life...a must listen for people of all faiths. am sure you can find it on you tube or google...

Thanks...I'll pass. :icon_wink:

Here's his wonderful homily on the administration's ambitions to strip the Church of it's rights and force it to engage in "repugnant actions" contrary to it's religious beliefs. He reveals that Obama promised and reneged on a promise that he would never attempt to override the "conscience" clause and that he was shocked that they would think otherwise. Obama lied to the Catholic Bishops over and over. What a surprise. Here is this timely "homily" by Father Sammie L. Maletta Jr. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltTd81XpDnc]Religious Liberty Homily.mp4 - YouTube[/ame] |

Just wait until November when the "O" gets re-elected. Remember it does not matter how you vote, all that matters is "Who counts the votes." I believe that this is going to be one of the most mud slinging campaigns that we will ever see. Its important that we vote and keep a close eye on those that are counting the votes.

This guy is also a lawyer and is basically making an opening statement in a case of not voting for Obama. He looks like a very talented trial lawyer. I would have to look at the laws he criticizing to see just how much truth there is in what he is saying. Basically, though it is a political speech with a boycott threat of Catholic services if the Obama Administration through its Health and Human Services division insists on Catholic Churchs providing abortion. Not sure if that is even true that the Obama Administration is forcing the Catholic Church to provide abortions. What news' reports I can find on this issue look rather slanted. Hard to get at what is actually going on without digging into the law. Looks like double talk to me though from this Pastor. http://www.stjohnparish.org/staff_sammaletta_text.html The Secretary of the Health and Human Services is very much pro-choice though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathleen_Sebelius I would have a wait and see what happens to this issue. Lots of politics here. |
A lawyer and a priest is like being a doctor and a mortician.

regulations
as a lawyer he is addressing the burden of understanding and complying with all the regulations implicit in the mandate...how it will interfere with the important work actually to be done...i have a trucker friend out west who told me that in the last few months trucking companies have been given 23 new regulations imposed by the fed govt, making their lives much harder and their businesses suffer....this is economic recovery?

With cell phones, gas prices, too long trucking hauls, terrorist threats and the like; there probably would be need for more regulations. I am just not sure this priest/lawyer is actually stating the facts about the Obama Administration's Catholic Church requirements with respect to reproductive rights. I have a lot of experience with lawyers/bureaucrats and it sounds like he is fudging when he complains about the (8?) pages of complicated laws. Law students are used to reading extremely complicated laws. It is usually a lot more than 8 pages which is involved. Law libraries abound in them. |
This seems to cover issues related to "Priest speaks out".
Reproductive Rights Prof Blog
I did find this NY Times article-- http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/17/he...?_r=1&src=recg |
don't see the connections
i really do not see the connection between the priest's remarks and all these articles except to agree that iud's and morning after pills prevent implantation of a possibly fertilized egg....this was explained to me by a doctor many years ago about the iud.. whether people agree with this position is not the point...it is the belief of catholics and in addition to the religious liberty issue, there is also the issue of the government forcing a business (insurance co) to provide a service "free"....they do not have such authority but they keep getting away with violating the constitution. just a glimpse of things to come.

Poor little old me. I have to read all these laws so that I can be a good priest to my parishioners. Except, I forgot, did I not go to law school and win an award for trial advocacy. The stuff I linked to should have picked up what so threatens these Bishops. Basically, it just sounds like insurance for reproductive services (iuds and morning after pills) in a Catholic Church setting. |
you are losing me
i just don't see how these two enormous issues, religious liberty and government acting unconstitutionally and overstepping their authority, is making a mountain out of a molehill! are we from different planets?

I am pro-choice so my objectivity is not what it could be. The Catholic Church is also not a sovereign nation here in the US. They do have to abide by some laws. |
laws
it has never been a law that churches have to provide ins that pays for abortions....we taxpayers are not supposed to have to pay for abortions either, but just try refusing to pay income tax which goes to planned parenthood and pays for abortions! and most importantly, insurance companies are private businesses and cannot be mandated to sell a product. the free market decides that...if anyone wants ins which covers birth control and abortion, they should not be looking for it at a catholic institution...this whole thing is another liberal non-issue in order to weaken the church and the moral fiber of our country. another block of young people looking for freebies and voting democrat!

Did Sammie give a report on the Church's assault on little boys?
Did Sammie give an update on how many of his priests are in jial for rape? Did Sammie give an update on how millions of dollars the Church has paid out in hush money? ...... 'prolly not .... |
"Fool me once same on you. Fool me twice same on me".
The liberal factor of the Catholic Church threw their entire support behind Obama. Obama lived up to his reputation and threw the catholic church under the bus (lied) like he had done time and time again with other organizations and individuals, So after all of this doesn't the liberal faction of the catholic church state that beside his lies they will continue to support him. Shame on you |
If the economy continues to improve and Obama continues to prevent terrorist attacks on our soil - two areas where the R's fail miserably - it's probably safe to say he'll receive support.
What the Catholic church thinks about him is irrrelevant. It'll be interesting to see if Obama or the R candidate receives a majority of the female vote come November. |

You may want to do a little more reading on the economy and less on what Obama press secretary reports. As for the terrorist attacks thank you for thanking Bush because despite Obama's claims he retained Bush's policies to his credit. Except now we find Holder who is attacking NYC terorist policies that have kept that city safe since 9/11. What the Catholic Church thinks may or may not be irrelevant. However what Obama is trying to force the Catholic Church to do is just plain unconstitutional and very relevant to all of our lives irrespective of our religious/non religious beliefs. We need to stay united in that cause in order to maintain our freedoms |

Unlike you, I don't need to read about the economy to feel it's effects. My 401(k) and other investments tells me everything I need to know. But, you keep listening to Rush and Palin to tell you how it is. If the Church wants a voice - tell them to pay taxes - otherwise, their opinions means nothing. |
