Woman's dead body found

I don't know anything officially, so what I'm writing is just from neighbors who were interviewed by police this morning. A woman's body was found near the green at the third hole of the Orange Blossom Country Club Golf Course early this morning, Monday 3-12, by a golf course maintainence worker.

The course was eventually opened but traffic was diverted around the area. Neighbors were asked if they heard gunshots, so we are assuming she was shot. That's all I know. I looked on the online scanner feed to see if there was anything there, but it wasn't up-to-date.

Murder at the 3rd hole

I love a good mystery. Never missed a CSI. I feel terrible for the poor lady. Does anyone know how old she was or where on her body was she shot? Please keep us updated on this. Want to bet that someone has blood in their golf cart?

We aren't watching TV here. This is a person dead and probably a villager!

paulandjean 03-12-2012 02:45 PM

Wait and see.to early to say"she probably a villager".

Of course, logic and common sense says she is probably a villager.

And orgunvs, to say you love a good mystery and never miss CSI, sounds like you are making light of a very serious and tragic situation.

missypie 03-12-2012 03:59 PM

Does not mean victim is a Villager just because she was found there. Could have been "dropped off".

Thought the word "PROBABLY" was used.

Need to know the facts.

Tal, Help me here. I can't find anything that talks about this.

If you can, will you summarize?

I cannot find anything either. There was a death today along the railroad tracks. A train hit a pick-up truck on the railroad tracks in unincorporated Lake/Sumter County at about 9:30 this morning.

Talk about a twisted story.....

paulandjean 03-12-2012 06:25 PM

"The difference it can possiby make" Maybe some people on this site just jump to early conclusions. Have you heard she is from the villages. I have not heard that. Could it be someone from outside the villages maybe. Why not wait to we get some facts.I do not think the police will say, found on the third hole golf course in the villages,sooooo-she must live here.Relax

bkcunningham1 03-12-2012 07:03 PM

I know Gracie. OMG. I live on the second hole and she was found just behind the third green. My little cul-de-sac is all abuzz. I may have to send a tip to the Daily Commercial newspaper. We haven't heard anything else. I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.

The only facts I do know are, 1)the police were called, 2)a dead female was discovered, 3) neighbors were questioned and asked if they heard (a) gunshot(s). (I don't know if they were asked if they heard a shot or shots. Either way, we assumed she was shot or maybe even shot herself.)

One thing I know BK, when you type something, it is NOT speculation. It is not rumor. You are the journalist you have been all of your life.

I am sure you have heard gossip about who it might be but would not say until you knew more, as to whether it was a villager or not.

One's mind jumps to all kinds of conclusions.

It is sad. I have to think it is a villager. Her body would have had to be brought through someone's yard to place her in the middle of the golf course. Or...Maybe not. Is this part of the course surrounded by homes, BK?

Happinow 03-12-2012 07:37 PM

This is off the charts! My God. The facts will come out and I feel freaked out by this.

memason 03-12-2012 07:37 PM

We played OB today and the starter told us about the dead woman, before we headed out on number 1. Said she was found behind the green. He didn't have any information other than what has been reported here...woman and a gun found at the scene. I walked around the back of the green, but didn't see evidence of anything happening there.

I'm sure there'll be something in tomorrow's Daily Sun about it.

chuckinca 03-12-2012 07:53 PM

Looking at the Google maps I believe the third green of Orange Blossom is near the portion of Schwartz Blvd that is parallel with the Lake/Marion county line and about a block West of the entrance of Hibiscus Dr (which should be called a court as it has no other inlet/outlet). The third green is surrounded by houses on three sides.

My aunt and uncle live at the East end of Hibiscus about a block from Schwartz. I just called them and they hadn't heard of any police activity on Schwartz near Hibiscus today - two blocks away. My uncle said he went to Paradise Center in the morning and drove there mainly on Schwartz.

Should be on the front page of the Daily Sun tomorrow!

Yes, Gracie, this part of the course is surrounded by homes. There is a cart crossing for the course across Kaufman Circle between holes three and four. The body was found fairly close to this crossing point. Kaufman Circle is off of Schwartz, which is a main road on this side of TV. But the cart path goes all around the course behind our homes here too.

Remember, as we get older and lose our life time partner, things happen. If this is true, may she rest in peace.

If it was a suicide they may not report it in the newspaper. I had heard that its usually policy not to report suicides in some papers so as not to encourage them through attention. Not sure if this is the policy at the Villages Daily Sun.

http://www.poynter.org/uncategorized...ng-on-suicide/

There were some suicides on my street when we lived in Reno, NV and I never saw them reported in the newspaper. There would be an obituary but it would not mention the suicide.

Perhaps we should resist our natural instinct to speculate and gossip. And please remember that this person might have family members who might end up reading our postings here.

Well said.:bigbow: I'll wait for the facts

Is everyone thinking Homicide?

In the Village of Buttonwood we are starting an AED external defibrillator program in the Queen Palm section so that if a person is out for a walk or on the courses and experienced cardiac or pulmonary arrest a set of trained res ponders will be contacted by the 911 operators and they will respond to the emergency, I imagine ti reason we are doing this is because the demographics and the climate of the area have made us aware that there might be a real need for a person to have their heart started before EMTS can get there.
:BigApplause::BigApplause:

I say Bravo.

The reason for saying this is that any person out walking can collapse and need resuscitation , Possibly this was the case there but help didn't come fast enough. I would like to say prayers of commendation for her so that her soul is lifted up in the way she dreamed it would be and that she is enjoying her eternal reward.

Nothing in today's Daily Sun.... a little surprising, but, we'll give it another day. As someone noted earlier, if it was a suicide, it would not get the same "news" coverage.

And, if it were more sinister the police report may not yet be available to the press. Something like an "ongoing investigation". Our Sun doesn't seem to want to send their reporters out to interview neighbors in a situation like this. There weren't any comments from neighbors in the paper when that woman shot her husband. Just that it happened.

I guess we will hear in time.

Nothing on the TV stations either. Anything in the commercial or the Sentinel?

This morning's Daily Commercial says an unidentified woman was found dead on the third hole of a golf course in The Villages. Lady Lake police call it a suicide, saying "there's nothing suspicious".

memason 03-13-2012 07:27 AM

Here's the link to the story in the Daily Commercial.

Thanks for the link, memason. That's a sad story. Did not see anything in today's Villages Daily Sun about the person killed on the railroad tracks in the pick-up yesterday morning.

Sad stuff - thanks for the updates.

Not sure if this was a woman in the pick-up truck on the train tracks. The source I got just said "driver".
