Is PODS kidding me?

Just called to schedule my POD delivery and all was going as planned until the woman on the phone said, "Oh, I don't think we deliver to The Villages." Are you kidding me? I never would have used PODS if they had told me that ahead of time! So now she is calling the Ocala facility to check on it. Has anyone on this board heard anything about this? She had better be mistaken!:rant-rave:

Find some old threads on Pods. I think there were some shenanigans reported before about them and their delivery and sticks in my mind it was the Ocala place that was the cause of the angst.

I hope this works out. Tell them you will call the national office.

schotzyb 03-22-2012 04:47 PM

They delivered our PODS IN 2007 . So unless it has changed since then, "yes" they do deliver to The Villages.

Pods

I used PODS had no problem but I live in 32162. I seem to remember the post GC was talking about. I believe Sanibel had a different zip code then N/O 466a and the place that people booked there PODS from didn't deliver to that zip and another PODS branch got involved.

Does TV have restrictions on How long these can sit in a driveway? Maybe that has something to do with it.

CMANN 03-22-2012 05:27 PM

We used PODS in 2009. No problem. Call back and ask to speak to a person.

I remember that thread. Since Sanibel is in another zip code it fell into the Orlando delivery area, but I think after the resident complained PODS of Ocala delivered but charged an extra $200. Also, I believe the PODS are allowed 3 days in the driveway.

Pods

A friend living in the Village of Calumet Grove in Marion County moved two months ago and was able to get two PODS. Insaw them Perhaps the county makes a difference.

Pturner 03-22-2012 06:36 PM

Hi Lynnelf,
I hope this works out for you. It would seem shameful if PODS doesn't tell you in advance that they cannot deliver to your intended address. :swear:

Please let us know how this works out.

anlashokna 03-22-2012 07:07 PM

Umm....when we were driving around the newer areas of the villages with a sales rep i know we passed at least two homes with pods sitting in there driveways and that was mid february of this year. I do believe the lady was uninformed or misinformed....

cquick 03-22-2012 07:11 PM

same thing happened to my son. Had to have it delivered to Ocala!

I would assume you have a written quote from them which would indicate the final delivery destination, if you do you should have no problem.

What does "N/O 466a" and "N/O 466" (from thread about cart hitting a bike rider) mean?

:wave:OMG This sounds like what I went through when we had our second POD sent from NH to TV. Contact the folks at main distribution of PODS. They will help you get things straight at the local level.:spoken:

Thank you for the replies. I haven't heard back from the woman I spoke to yesterday. I will contact the corporate office.

32163 zip code Beware Pods!

Well folks, called the corporate office today. Here is how the situation turned out much to my dissatisfaction. Ocala facility will deliver my pod but there is an additional charge. 32163 zip code is outside their normal delivery area (they actually told the customer rep. that I spoke to that it would be a 2 1/2 hr. trip down so 5 hrs. Both ways!) They stated that the original quote was based on information that I gave them, which was inaccurate (gave them 32162 area code.) I went round and round with them on this, but in the end there was really no choice. I am not renting a truck, going to Ocala and unpacking the pod, packing it all into a truck, and unpacking it at my house. So I will pay the extra money. The original charge was 86.00. Now it is 265.00 with tax. In the end, I asked them to at least look into the business practices of the Ocala facility ( 5 hours, right!) they wouldn't even give me the satisfaction of agreeing to do that again stating that it was my fault for providing an incorrect zip code ( which I don't even remember if I provided, or if they looked it up.) Anyhow, it's over and I'm moving to The Villages soon! Yay!

nkrifats 03-23-2012 12:13 PM

I had trouble dealing with the Ocala office for PODS last year. Was very unhappy with them, I decided at that time. No more POD if I ever move again. Would not recommend PODS to anyone based on the Ocala office. Was just the opposite dealing with PODS in Rhode Island.

anlashokna 03-23-2012 01:16 PM

I wanted to thank you guys for starting this thread...we had been giving the wrong zip for our rental in sanibel! :( So now we have to get ahold of the shipping company and make sure they have the right one. Not so big right now as the goods are still here and not packed. But if this had never come up would have been in the dark on that for awhile.

Gerald 03-23-2012 04:40 PM

Right this minute we have two pods in our driveway packed to go to the villages. The pods people not only said no problem to deliver in the villages. The even measured my driveway there to see if it could take two at a time. According to then it can not. So they will place one at a time each day. Not really a big deal to me. so the answer is yes they deliver to the villages and have done so many times.

Carla B 03-23-2012 04:49 PM

If I understand it correctly, the problem seems to arise when it's going to zip code 32163, the new area south of 466A.

duffer2 03-24-2012 01:50 PM

Pod Recomendation

We used the pod in January 2012. No problems. They were right on time. Followed the contract exactly and even accomodated some minor date changes

I would call the national number if there are any issues

We called the Villages info line and the pod can stay 7 days, longer if there are no complaints from neighbors

Lynnelf 03-24-2012 02:44 PM

Update

I got my final invoice from PODS and instead of charging me 265.00 as I was quoted on the phone, they are charging me 78.00 which is 8.00 less than the original quote. My customer service rep must have spoken to a manager after all! If you are thinking about using PODS and you are in the 32163 zip code area, make sure that any additional charges for delivery to that area are clarified when you get your original moving quote.

NANCY58 03-24-2012 03:45 PM

We used pods for our move. They stored our belongings in ocala, and delivered them the day after we called..no problems what so ever.

John_W 03-24-2012 07:11 PM

I'm surprised more people aren't using ABF (Arkansas Best Freight). When we moved last year that's all I read about on this board, was how great they were and how PODS wasn't. When I got an estimate I could get 4 ABF cubes for the price of 2 PODS, however they are smaller.

We ended up using Mayflower Moving Co. Four ABF cubes from Baltimore to here was $2700 and Mayflower gave me an estimate of $3400. After they picked up my furniture and boxes and took it to their hub and weighed it, they called and said it would only be $2700. In the end, we were suppose to be deliverd to on July 8th, three days after we moved in. They didn't arrive with our stuff until July 21th, I filed a claim via email the next day and I had a check in my mail for $2000 three days later. So it ended up only costing us $700.
