Village Names
Recently I read a book called "The Paris Wife" about Ernest Hemingway's first wife, Hadley Hemingway. I wondered if that was the origin of those two villages names. I googled around and found:
Pennecamp - John Pennekamp (correct spelling) was a Miami newspaper editor who was largely responsible for saving the Everglades. Obviously, I have too much time on my hands. LOL |

But Do know about a couple of Street Names... Example: ..... "O'Dell" Circle......Named for Jack O'Dell.... who used to own the Ranch where the Street meanders.. ......"Bailey" Trail........Named for Clyde Bailey....who used to own the Ranch where the street meanders.. BOTH of their families still live in the AREA........ALL VERY nice people. On the HISTORIC Side ....you have the names ( first and last ) of the Developers' families. Of course we all know why MORSE Blvd is Morse Blvd. The "La Reina" Bldg on the Square in Spanish Springs was named to honor Sharon Morse who was considered "The Queen" of the Morse family. ....Lots More......but will let others fill in the blanks. |
I LIKE this! Thanks!

Took the trolley tour awhile back and we were told Winniford was named after Arnie Palmer's wife Winnie. Just another trivia bit of news! :-) I think most of the villages and main streets as you say have something either to do with FL or the family.

Bonifay is a city in the panhandle as well as Destin and Fort Walton which are the two Bonifay 9's that are open. I think the 3rd one will be Pensacola which is also up in the panhandle. Parr Dr is named for Jennifer Parr, Gary Morse's daughter. Everything has a meaning in The Villages. |

I know that there was a Town of Hadley in the county where I came from, Saratoga Co. NY. Checking there it I found out that it was named after Hadley MA which was founded on 1659. Could that be the origin? Don't know, but I do know that the surname of Hadley can be traced back to England to at least 1086. Maybe someone might know and let us know... maybe! |
Speaking of Village Names...Does anyone have the link available that shows the impending build out of the Brownwood area.. Someone posted a map with names of new upcoming villages to come.. Would like to revisiit that map layout again and show to my husband.. It seems to have disappeared from my posts..

Thanks Bill for the map link...and its good to know the new maps are also out for purchase... Its looking promising that we passed our Home Inspection...getting closer and closer to that closing April 30th for our buyers! When we hand over the keys I will feel much better but somewhat sad to say goodbye to our home of nearly 20 yrs. Hope to be meeting many of you in the months ahead!

I live in Alhambra, I'm assuming it's named after the beautiful city in Spain.
Interestingly, I grew up in Coral Gables, Florida (nicknamed "The City Beautiful") where the large majority of street names come from the names of Spanish towns and cities. My boyhood home was on Alhambra Boulevard, so in some ways, I've come full circle. |

Note that Hemingway's granddaughters are also represented in the village named for him: Margaux and Mariel. And yes, the Village of Winifred was named after Arnold Palmer's first wife, Winifred Walzer, who died 12 or 13 years ago. The Villages is for sure filled with trivia! |
Pine Hills Place in Winifred has neither pines nor hills but there is a Pine Hills ,Florida an Orlando suburb.
