Today is the day. Done
Left work early as this is my last day at work. Start retirement officially on April 1. Hummmmm, maybe not such a good choice. Oh well, it's over now and time to start the good life. Although will start working Monday on the house, getting it ready for the market. So will do about 3 days a week of hard labor for the next 3 or 4 months. So retired officially, but working for myself a bit longer. Doesn't seem to have sunk in yet, but am sure it will by Monday.

Let me be the first to congratulate you....CONGRATULATIONS!:MOJE_whot:

Hooray!
12 Ridehd,
No looking back, just onward and upward. It will sink in and must be huge! I wouldn't know....but CONGRATS to you! |

Good to hear you pulled the trigger on retirement, l2! Congrats!! But it sounds like NOW the hard work begins....... :D
Bill :) |
Congratulations!
I did the same thing. Retired and then got the house ready to sell. The house was already ready, we just had to figure out what to toss and what to keep.
You won't look back! I promise! |
Congratulations!....Things will probably seem strange for a while but it will pass,....enjoy working on the house and your upcoming retirement!:icon_wink:
|
Congradulations, you are now in the 4th quarter. Don't work too hard and save some time to ride the Sportster.
|
The next chapter
Congratulations!
All of us that are still working, are just a tad envious! |
Celebrate each day.... because you have 'graduated' to personal freedom. :a040:
I'll be retired two years come Sept. Never thought that would be an option for me. For the first 6 months I had to pretend that each day was Saturday. Now I guess it really is! |
Hey, you're lucky it's April 1 !!!
You get the constant reminder to Play the Fool. Like you, we've been working on houses, skrimping and saving, But now we're Playing the Fool And lovin' it !!! |
Just adding my SoFla congratulations to you!
May your retirement years last as long as your employment years! |
6 years 6 months and a handful of days, and I will be in your shoes !!!, happy 55th b-day to me , LOL not sure what I am doing on b-days 49-54 but 55th is all planned out :a040:

Yea'
Must have been a bitter sweet moment. All I know is when I get to TV everythiing seems soooooo much better.
And today while putting the Harley away I met ( The Fox ) Angie came over. Congrats on the retirement.:bigbow: |
Congrats!
|
CONGRATULATIONS! :MOJE_whot: Shortly you will be a Frog. ENJOY! Wishing you luck for a quick house sale!
|
Congrats
It's good you are going to keep busy. Be sure to have a plan for each day. I retired a year ago last December and it felt like I was playing hookie for the first 6 months. You'll want to plan your days but don't overdo your activities. Be sure to take time each day to keep yourself in shape and smell the roses.:a040:

12ridehd - Retirement
From one Bogelhead to another.....Congratulations:MOJE_whot:
Enjoy every moment and live it to the fullest. Northstar |
Congratulations!! I am right where you are. Yesterday I closed down my office and turned over the lease to colleague who was very happy to start the next phase of her career there. The time feels right. I am so happy to start the next chapter of my life. I close on the sale of my home on May 15th and on the 16th
I will be on the road driving to my new home in The Villages. I imagine I might get there and think "Yikes, what have I done." However, everyone assures me that will be temporary. I am very excited thinking about my life in The Villages. |
l2,
DH and I are so excited for you! We'll be toasting you this very evening. Is the lovely Mrs. l2 going to retire soon too?? |
Congrats L2. Now just get that other house sold and see the DC area, and all its traffic, in your rear view mirror!!
|
Congratulations on your retirement. Enjoy each day, because time moves even more quickly once you're retired! We look forward to seeing more of you and S. when you're both back in The Bubble.
|
Yo 12,...what they all said. But most importantly, you can stop putting pressure on yourself, for any reason. My son hit the nail on the head when he said "relax, dude. You earned it". Every day I find myself taking a few minutes to think about how lucky I am. Come on down and relax...it only gets better!!
|
Kudos. Hey, call me (PM for current #) if you want to get a round in someday. We're here for good now.
|
Congratulations!

The best is yet to come! The Land 'o The Sun and Fun is waiting for you. Happiness always! |
Congratulations
Like you I was second guessing myself for the whole last month of work. Perhaps I should have worked one more year???? However you get so busy getting moved that soon you are ready to relax and have fun.....and that just continues! Don't overbook your activities. Allow some down time.

Fireboy reluctantly retired at the end of January after 32 years as a firefighter. He loved his job. This is his first full winter in The Bubble. He is having a great time. Today, for the first time, he said the magic words: "I wish I'd retired earlier".
|
Congrats!!; April 1st is the anniversary date of my retirement also. The last day I was paid to labor was March 31st 2008. April 1st, 2012 will be 4 great years of being paid "not to work".
Hope it works out great for you. I hit the retirement road walking (retired men don't run) and haven't looked back. Afraid I might turn into a pillar of salt. All the best!! |

What great news! So anxious to meet everyone that is making that big move and those that have been enjoying it for years! We officially hand over the keys to our place the 30th April and will be RV'rs until we committ to that final home in TV. We might have to do some traveling before we do that but expect it will happen much faster than we plan. We have been in hustle mode it seems since we decided to sell and move to Fl, never expecting it to happen so fast. Good luck selling your place once you get it on the market!

Best wishes to you -- congrats on your retirement! :clap2: |
Thank you all so much for all your well wishes and kind words. Mrs l2, S, will not retire or leave until we have the house in VA sold and then we will see how much longer she would have to work to make it mean something. I have told her to leave any time, but she is the practical one. So we will see once the VA home is sold.
