FALSE RUMOR: Only 8 days of music on squares for entire monthofJune

This summer with Spanish springs square closed for the entire month of June , there will only be music at LSl on Tuesday and Thursday nights, only 8 nites to go to square. This was announced the vendors, they are not happy, they were wanting more days ,,,hoping there would be more market days , with this decision there are less days for them and even less days for those of us who enjoy going for the free entertainment..... I am sure this will boost sales at the bars downtown ,,, is sure going to make for some very quiet weekend nites on the dark squares. 8 days total!, square will go dark the other nights!,,

Why is Spanish Springs Square closed in June? Does this happen every year? Thanks.

Bill-n-Brillo 04-12-2012 09:17 PM

I obviously missed something - I didn't realize there was only going to be music on Tues. and Thurs. at LSL during June. Was that is the Daily Sun?

The stated timeframe for having the SS square out of commission was 3-4 weeks per Janet Tutt:

http://www.districtgov.org/PDFView/P...20120412000801

So there IS potential, it seems, that things could get done at SS before the end of June.

Bill :)

villages07 04-12-2012 09:19 PM

I'm confused.... The article said Spanish Springs entertainment would be cancelled for much of June while they do resurfacing of roads or common area around the square. Businesses will remain open.

I thought the article said entertainment will continue at Lake Sumter for the month. Not sure what arrangements are made for vendors but the music should go on at LSL.

To the OP, is this something you heard from a vendor or are you referring to the article in today's paper?

Do you go every night to the squares for the free entertainment??

Not from a vendor

This is not from a vendor,,, from a person "in the know" and this in addition to the closing of SS,,, in the summer almost no crowds at all due to the heat till after 7:30ish during the summer. Talk about some bad tasting koolade we are forced to drink!.

Pturner 04-12-2012 09:37 PM

"Someone said," is the definition of a rumor. Just "saying".

Villageshooter 04-12-2012 09:42 PM

A phone call on Friday

I plan a phone call to the "powers to be" first thing Friday confirm,,, i was so confident that this was good info is the reason I went with it.

obxgal 04-12-2012 09:51 PM

There was a write up about it in the Recreation section of the newpaper today. Page 2 and continued to page 58. Their updating the square and entertainment will all be continued at Sumters landing.

skip0358 04-12-2012 09:52 PM

Don't Know

Don't know where that info came from. Sure wasn't the way I read the article. Can't see why the vendors or the people living here would be punished because of a renovation of one square. a call to the powers to be is in order.

OldDave 04-12-2012 10:00 PM

Hm, and we were planning on coming in June. i saw that Spanish Springs was closed, but I don't understand closing the other one all but 8 days. Seems like they would want to load it up to compensate. So, those of you that live there, do the nightly performances normally cut back in the summer or is this something new for you?

Jim 9922 04-12-2012 10:03 PM

Lets hope that the "scheduled improvements" do not include chopping down all the trees on the square to turn it into the glorified parking lot that LSL Square is.

NotGolfer 04-12-2012 10:12 PM

The article just said something about SS! They're cleaning and fixing it up. Summer is the "slow season" and it's the best time to get it done!
Doncha just love how rumors get started???

skip0358 04-12-2012 10:21 PM

Summer

Haven't seen anything cut back the last 2 summers we've been here. Don't really know why that would be done either. Yea it's hot but so what your in Florida. There's music 7 days/ wk in both squares now why cut it to 2 days per week. Makes no sense at all.

wendyquat 04-12-2012 11:19 PM

Maybe that is 8 VENDOR nights which would be 2 nights a week for the month of June.

Bryan 04-13-2012 05:21 AM

SS will be pretty much closed during June due to resurfacing at the square. LSL continues as normal - which would be eight vendor nights in June (every Tue and Thur) and entertainment without vendors the other nights. I think the point of the initial post was that vendors wanted sixteen vendor nights at LSL in June to make up for the eight they lose at SS - and they didn't get that.

PaPaLarry 04-13-2012 05:39 AM

This is a PRIME example how rumors can get started. Its like playing that game where you whisper in ones ear, and then pass it on to another. When it reaches the final person, the subject is 100% changed. He He!!! I read same article in Daily Sun, and from what I can see and read, it stated that Spanish Springs would be closed, and all entertainment would be in Lake Sumpter Landing. I'm sure we can find other things to do in mean time, so that the improvements can be completed!!! Don't you just love it!!!:lipsrsealed::wave::shrug::laugh:

I DEE DOUBLE doubt this information, Shooter.

The kool refreshing drinks are just like they have always been and the music goes on...................

And sinkholes are not caused by not having downspouts in the back of your house.

Good Morning Villageshooter. It is a beautiful day in The Villages. ;)

The LSL square will not be dark. There will be music at LSL all 7 days of the week. There will just be no vendors on Monday and Wednseday and in LSL there never was so what am I missing here.

Vendor night is where satisfied villagers sell unsatisfied villagers to the highest bidder or give them away free.

I thought the selling people bit was offensive. Don't think it was meant that way as Gracie isn't that kind of lady but I would give it an award. I was going to leave it alone til the accolade started.

Yep really. If you think that selling people is OK then say so. It's called slavery. Some folks are sensitive to it.
