Robbery
I am surprised, unless I missed it, not reading about the robbery of the
restaurant in Southern Trace. I believe the name is/was Adolfo's?? As I understand it on Sunday night or Monday morning someone broke the window on the side with a brick, stole the money from the cash register and safe. Not sure what else they got. But it will be a few days before they reopen. Was this in the newspaper or on TOTV and I missed it.:ho: |

Where did you hear it? |
Robbery
I did not hear it. Stopped in on Monday Morning and the Owner's were there and said they were closed for a few days because of the robbery. THey showed us the broken window. Said they were robbed the night before and not sure when they broke in? Said they got all the money left in the cash register and safe..Not sure what they got beyond that. :(

It was Gandolfo's in Southern Trace Shopping Center. The ladies at Crispers were talking about it. They said detectives were asking if they had heard or seen anything and they did not. It appears that it happened in the early hours of Monday morning. They are checking out the surveilance cameras in the parking lot.

People get robbed, buidlings get burglarized
|
Congrats
I am not really invested in the usage of terms, (e.g. Robbery/Burglary). As a
Professor once said, if you understand the concept that is what is important and I think all understood the concept that was being described. OK it was burglarized..I hope that closes the concerns over that issue..:MOJE_whot: |
If they broke into the safe, sounds like an inside job. Hope not too much was lost. Gandolfo's is a pretty busy restaurant.

Thats Poor management IMO.... Leaveing $$$$ in the cash register after U close!!!!!!!
Whats-up with that??? |
Its their money.

Not covered in the Paper?
Hate that there was a burglary, but equally concerned that it might not have been covered in The Daily Sun. Did I just miss it?

Employee's do take note of how the management handles cash and where it is kept and when it is moved. I never left cash in the register over night. Taking it with you at the end of the business day is not safe either. Every business should have a secure safe and stagger the time they remove money from the business to make deposits. I would be suprised if any business had significant amounts of cash on hand as most transactions are by debit/credit card.

bad news??
Rarely do you see anything negative in "Pravda"...Good little paper for good news and local get togethers though.."It's a beautiful day in The Villages"

I just saw it in today's paper...page C4 "Law inforcement briefs" Crazy world. Also robbery in
Bonifay Country Club earlier this week. Stole a 5 foot high safe! |
There was also a burglary in Bonifay Country Club on early in the week. A 5 foot safe was stolen! These were both in todays Village Sun, page C4.

OK, it was in the paper already. Would anyone care to share some details for those of us that can't get The Sun? Thanks.
|
me too. Yikes. :-)

Here we go again with rudeness. Why on earth was it important to make a point of robbery vs. burglary? We all got the point and understood what PennBF was saying. Pointing out the misuse of terms was not necessary and resulted in PennBF replying with a comeback. PennBF should never have had to do that! Think if this were you!

Boy Howdy. In yesterdays DAILY SUN there was an article with a reference to a "previous report" on the same subject. In the same article it told of the large safe being stolen from Bonifay Country Club. The Daily Sun ain't the Boston Globe but it has improved a lot in the four years I have been reading it. I like the Sun. |
What a shame that the "real world" of crime etc is getting more prevalent in TV. It sure makes us snowbirds a bit more concerned about our houses down there and their security.
Not to be rude, just an educational oportunity, these crimes are not classified as burglaries or robberies (in my state anyway, could be different down here). In my twenty plus years of law enforcement/criminal prosecutions burglary referes to breaking into a residence, if a business is broken into it is charged as a B & E (breaking and entering) with different code sections and penalties for each. Burglary is a more serious felony because of the potential for the criminal interacting with the victim etc. |
Quick Points
1. I think we should feel blessed that with over 80,000 residents we only have a couple of break ins, etc. We live in a community where a woman can take a walk at midnight and feel safe. Of course with over 80,000 people you can expect a couple of bad things and in these cases none were personal attacks on someone nor house breakins.. We are truly lucky.
2. Regarding what really happened at the restaurant. I was there early on Monday morning and the Owner's were just looking around. THe window was broken where they entered and the Owner's were waiting for someone to put some plyboard up. They said the "burglar's" got the money from the cash register and from the safe. They were still looking to see if anything else was taken. They said it would be a few days before they could reopen. The police were looking at potential camera's at other stores, (e.g. Publix's , etc). I am not naive and believe it would be a huge overstatement that these types of violation's in anyway reflect on the safety and peaceful living in The Villages. :highfive: |
