Golf with deafining noise from polo match
I choose not to goto the free polo match Friday, I choose to play golf at 4:00 at Glenview CC paid $33 and had to listen to the polo match anyway. It was deafining and could not consentrate. How do people live there and put up with this noise. Don't even think of putting your house up for sale during polo season. How can the Villages do this to these poor people. Something must be done to stop the noise.

I would assume that if one buys a house near a large area such as the Polo Field, one assumes there will be noise at some time. It's the same for those who buy near a Rec center...you're going to hear pickleball, tennis, people in the pool. If you buy near a town square....you're going to listen to music and the din of crowds just about every night.
I can understand that it was frustrating for you. Maybe it's better not to plan on playing golf when polo is being played. It's not a long season and soon, relative peace and quiet will once again return. |
Is this noise everyday? How many hours a day?
|
Sound travels. When you are actually at the stadium, there are many times, when you can't even hear the announcer. There are two polo seasons (each lasts 10 weeks) Games are normally played on Fridays and Sundays (2 games per day) Each games lasts about 90 minutes. The current season goes til the end of May. This is some of the BEST entertainment. Fridays are FREE. Where else can you spend a day outside, in the beautiful sunshine, watch a sporting event-- FOR FREE? Come on down and enjoy the games. They also have food and drinks available for purchase.

I haven't had my coffee yet so maybe my kindness button isn't on.
There aren't THAT many horses in a polo match to have the sound of thundering hooves. The announcer on the Public Address System can be heard sometimes at our village which isn't that close because of the way the wind sometimes blows. The cheers of the crowd of people sitting in the sun enjoying themselves is the other thing that comes to mind. We can hear that from the high school on the wind sometimes on a Friday night. It seems like the sounds of people living and enjoying themselves. A cemetery is usually very quiet. |
You're right, Gracie. When you're at the stadium, it's the sounds of the fans cheering, chatting, and enjoying themselves that keeps us from hearing the announcer. There are 8 players(4 per team) on horses as well as 2 umpires on horses. So, 10 horses at a time thundering up the field. Each player brings 6-8 horses to a match, so there are usually about 50 horses total per game. It's great fun ! Everyone should come out and see for themselves.

his post is similar to the complaints of many here in central nj who have moved near a small executive airport and want the flights to stop; or the folks who moved near the auto racing tracks and want to shut them down! those folks crack me up! they knew those facilities were there when they moved in - and they had the gall to even think that they could change local life because it just was not convenient for them!! bwa-ha-ha! it's unfortunate that charlie cannot appreciate the sounds of enjoyment that eminate from the polo field! |
polo
can you just imagine how much a deaf person would enjoy the noise of people have fun?

Just what do you propose should be done to stop the noise? Sorry, you are alone on this issue............... |
I LOVE hearing the noise from Polo ! When we play tennis at Saddlebrook on Sundays we hear all the sounds and can catch a peak at the horses sometimes, it is a very exciting game to play and watch and the announcer makes it fun, love the music !

We can hear the announcer and the cheerleaders at football games at the HS. Love the sound of life!
|
seems like you are like the 'maytag repairman' on this!
|
Some people are just miserable. Reminds me of the person that builds on a golf course and then complains that there are balls on his lawn! There is one man who lives across from Havana who constantly complains about the music noise. Get a life folks. Other people are certainly enjoying theirs!
|
Some people only are happy is when they have something to complain about. I'll bet they can't even tell us for sure if the glass if half full or half empty.

Sounds like great fun!
The Polo matches is one thing we did not get around to doing while we were there this year. We will be looking forward to attending when the season starts next Fall. Does anyone have any tips re: when to arrive, parking, where to sit, what to bring, etc.? Sounds like great fun!!!

Hit them well and long. |
Glad you are interested in coming to see the polo matches ! If you arrive about 30-45 minutes before the game, you should get a good seat. They have parking attendants that will direct you where to park. If you are NEW to polo you should definitely sit on the first floor inside the stadium. There are MANY friendly regulars who are more than happy to explain the game. Wear shorts and sunscreen and be prepared to have a great day. They have food for sale and a full bar, too. Leave your good shoes home because you'll want to go out and "stomp the divots" at halftime.

Something REALLY needs to be done about all the dang golf courses at TV.
These playgrounds for an elite few are nothing more than a huge bio-hazard, where exotic soil and grass, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides and weedicides, as well as machinery spewing their air pollution, are all imported to substitute for natural ecosystems. These landscaped foreign systems create stress on local water supplies and soil, at the same time being highly vulnerable to disease and pest attacks. The environmental impacts include water depletion and toxic contamination of the soil, underground water, surface water and the air. This in turn leads to health problems for local communities like TV, populations downstream and even golfers, caddies and chemical sprayers in golf courses. The construction of golf courses in scenic natural sites also results in the destruction of biodiversity. Something definitely needs to be done. Or do you think I'm being a tad unreaasonable perhaps, Charlie? |

I am really bothered by some of the replies to Charlie's first post. Shame on many of you for reacting with rudeness and negativity. Yes, he was negative but all he did was state his feelings/opinion. Why do you find it necessary to jump all over people when they post an opinion?
OK...I'm ready for the mud slings...and NO...I don't know Charlie! So, sling away and start a war on me for stating MY opinion. Why couldn't we have replied... Charlie, so sorry you were bothered by the noise. Maybe next time you golf you will check if a polo game is being played and if so, choose another golf course so the noise doesn't bother you. Think how you would feel if you posted an opinion then were bombasted with all the negative replies. If you say it would make you feel welcome, then I am speechless. Ready to be mud-faced... |
To the OP, it is a big deal. His right to say so. To the average person, I imagine it seems a bit far fetched to be the problem or issue that he claims. I'm still having a hard time visualizing how noise from the polo field can affect a golfer on Glenview...it's really not all that close.
The folks who bought in Polo Ridge made that choice, presumably with the knowledge that they were close to Polo and softball. The OP can also make the choice not to play Glenview during home polo matches. This is the first time I've heard anyone complain about noise from Polo. |
I happen to live in Polo Ridge, almost directly across from the Polo Stadium and I love EVERYTHING about it. Please don't feel sorry for me as I am not a poor person and the people whom we bought our home from had no problem selling their home to us. I really can't think of a golf course anywhere that is perfectly quiet... love it when I finish my shot and the ducks squawk or should I say quack.
Walgreens & Walmart sell some great ear plugs. |

The printed word lacks the nuances of the interchange between speakers and lacks the visual effects that soften a response. Some people are more direct in what they type and some people have the ability to tell someone to go to hell and make them look forward to the trip. |
Gracie, You should be in the diplomatic corps. Well said....

Lets see I have been golfing some 40 years or so and I can not recall playing a golf course where there was not some kind of noise nearby. Be it lawn mowers or an airplane or from a nearby house or business it happens. One of my favorite courses to play is TPC Tampa, which just happens to be located on the flight path to Tampa International Airport and also hosts a senior tour stop. Now if someone in my group is talking as I am trying to hit a shot then yes I do find that distracting but not some noise off in the distance. And for the record I am not one who continually praises the developer for anything not that I see the relevance in that subject here. |
World's Newest Best Excuse for having poor golf game!
Quote:
I personally think that this is one of the all-time best excuses for having a poor golf game. I'm going to keep it in mind when I play golf next....no matter when or where it will be. "So Karen, how was your golf game?". "Oh...had a bad game....noise from the polo grounds". Great excuse....I love it! |

Distant sounds from an athletic field full of people enjoying life and who aren't in the nursing home or hospital (which are quiet places) is not even close to the distraction that is caused by somebody yacking loudly right beside the tee while you're hitting your tee shot.
