I have to say - I first heard this from my mom in Indiana and from my wife and it was something I couldn't wrap my brain around. How could someone get a tax refund who never paid taxes? I mean, if I claimed illegal deductions, the most I could possibly get away with is ever dollar I paid in taxes because I coudlnt' reduce my income to less than $0.

Apparently, I was wrong and I'm axious to see something more revealing about how this is done and WHEN it will STOP.

I worked for Bank of America in New Brunswick (the illegal alien capitol of New Jersey).

I used to cash (or deposit) government checks for thousands of dollars on a regular basis. The ID used was their Mexican Consular Card or their Mexican Passport, both of which were issued by the Mexican Consulate.

Once or twice a year, the Consulate would take a space in downtown New Brunswick and issue these ID's to the illegal aliens. The first day was usually sparsely attended. After seeing no arrests, the next 4 consecutive days would have lines around the block. They could get a passport good for one year or five years, depending on how much they had to pay.

Then they would come into the bank where we would have to cash their checks with their Mexican Consular ID's because it was actually a valid ID. I know that Bank of America did catch a lot of flack not only for opening accounts, but they were also issuing credit cards to illegal aliens. They probably still are.

They would come into the bank to see our only spanish-speaking personal banker, Jose. They would relate to him how easy it was to scam the government and how many thousands of dollars they were receiving for kids they had living in Mexico.

The topper was when a woman gave me a social security card with her name on it and when I pulled up the account, that ss number was issued to one of our customers and THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT I COULD DO ABOUT IT!

The whole thing would just make me sick to my stomach...but no one cared. As long as there were bodies in the seats and they were opening accounts and credit cards, everything was just fine.

Corporate greed and government obliviation seem to go hand in hand.

The thing that got me in this story was that our government, in order to facilitate illegal immigrant workers the opportunity to file income tax forms, issues identification numbers to these illegal workers called ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number). Our government is documenting "undocumented workers". Did you guys know about this? Instead of prosecuting these workers, we're assigning them numbers. This greys up their "illegality" in my view.......what do you think?

Now these same workers, discovering a loophole in our tax codes, claim all their children, nieces, nephews and who know what children living in Mexico, and claim them as dependents, and receive mega-buck "tax refunds" from the IRS, all paid for with YOUR tax money.

I repeat............What a wonderful country............

The current Administration screams for more revenue. There ya go. Stop that bleeding.

i know this is another tangent but i recently read that Bank of America, my bank, dropped MacMillan as a client because they manufacture rifles...between that and this story, i am intending to drop them as my bank!

The illegal aliens needed that ITIN in order to open accounts...

I guess that made them legal illegal aliens in Bank of America's eyes.:ohdear:

I guess, We need to hire more employees and pay then more so they do a better job.

Dan Burton of Indiana, about one year ago, proposed legislation to halt this practice by the illegal immigrants....

"Burton, along with scores of House Republicans, had co-sponsored House Resolution 1956, which has languished in the House Ways and Means Committee for almost a year. It provides that only tax filers with a valid Social Security number may claim and receive the additional child tax credit--rendering tax filers using a ITIN ineligible to claim the credit.

To expedite matters, language from the [original] bill has been inserted into a package of proposed budget saving measures House lawmakers will consider in May; however, although the package may have enough support to pass the House, it is expected to die a quick death in the Democratic-controlled Senate, according to Segall's video segment reporting."

I have done some more reading and only offer this up in the hopes that mabye somebody else has other information, but it appears that this number is being used for mortgage fraud as well.

They give this number instead of a SSN number and thus no credit check or anything is possible. So far I have read a lot on ACORN and their efforts to bring these folks to the table for mortgages and using ITIN numbers instead of SSN.

You wonder why we have mortgage meltdowns, and border states want the federal law actually imposed ?

Thus far just reading but I understand and will stand corrected if I am wrong that you can use this number to get voter id ?

I did happen to read that folks in the IRS say this kind of fraud will happen for the most part when the filer uses someone to do his taxes who speaks his language as then they are more comfortable.

This is a major problem it appears....who knows what else is happening. Certain banks give mortgages to folks who cannot afford them by using this ITIN number instead of SSN and thus no credit check is done. You see that how large the percentage is of voter fraud in the calling of jurors from voter records. RICHIE..you are right...what a country...we are just suckers.

Yet we defend this all the time....why force them to speak english, etc.

This costing this country big time and it appears the IRS knows it.

Of course I have reasons not to vote for Obama. If he was a true American patriot conservative Democrat like a John F. Kennedy, I could vote for him.

Well, I have to say, this is one time I am in lock, stock and double-barrel in support of the Republicans.

This kind of insanity has to stop. I don't care if it's a "drop in the bucket" compared to other parts of our fiscal problems - WRONG is WRONG.

Wish I could find an article that I read where obama got a tax ID in Connecticut and later turned that into a SS# which is how he got the card. Was not a registered citizen at that time. If I find it I will post the site. But this goes on all the time even in this area but if you bring it up you could very well lose your job. The other thing alot of employers profess to use E verify but use contract labor and those companies are not required to verify the right to work in this country so what do you do. I think this should be a federal law to verify right to work but in forced by the state. There is alot that goes on we dont know about but everyone is afraid to do anything about. Or government just won't. How many illegals do you think vote in this country.

if it is that easy to steal money from the US government....with their assistance....just how easy do you think it will be for the same ILLEGALS to get an ID sufficient to vote for Obama in November.

That is why all the uproar about sufficient voter ID's.

A stretch? If they can get money they are not entitled to what makes anybody think the system won't/can't support ILLEGAL voting?

All for the sake of protecting a voting block.

In there, it's explained that there never HAS been a correlation between residence and the 'location' digits - that's just the 'location' of the mailing office. The most likely explanation was Obama's Zip Code at the time: 96814 being a fat-finger keystroke away from 06814 which is Danbury, CT.
