How to Make a 3 day drive longer - The ER
For those few souls who know we're on the way for our first visit, I enjoyed a lovely day in the Emergency Room in New Albany Alabama. Had a scare of a mini stroke, but after spending a mere $5,000 it seems that getting a brand new prescription for my glasses two days before we left wasn't necessarily a great idea. I was having double vision, thus the stop at the ER. Turns out the prescription is probably wrong. Add to that, it's not worth the $100 I saved by using my existing frames, because now I don't have my old glasses to fall back on. So if and when we finally get there, I need to find a good eye doc that has an eyeglass shop and see if they will put my old lens back in (they are being shipped from Kansas.) So the adventure continues. Looks like I will finally get to TV, but make not be able to see much when I arrive!

Wow...glad you are alright! Take your time on the road, it is pouring here. Drive safely and remember...it is always a beautiful day in The Villages!
|
Good there was no stroke bad about the 5K.
Your deductible sounds like ours. |
The good news is TV will be twice as wonderful. At least you'll see it twice. Sorry. It wasn't funny at the time. Maybe you can laugh now.
|
Poor ole dave! At least you have a good (but costly) story to tell.
Are you sure you weren't in New Decatur/Albany which is next to Old Decatur, Alabama? Did you first stop at Jack Daniel's Distillery in Tennessee? |
OldDave, I hope you get to TV safely. I'm sure I will see you on the golf cart paths in one week.

What a terrible scare. Glad it was the glasses. I go to Dr. Mark J. Vocci. He is very good and he has an office in The Villages - 352-750-2020. They have an eye glass place - I believe it is called Precision Optics - right there in the office. Good Luck.

OldDave,
I'm so sorry that your trip is taking so long and you had such a scare. But I laughed out loud with your descriptive post. Please keep on posting with your impressions of The Villages. I think you will be very entertaining to read on this board. |
OMG Old Dave! I have been reading with interest many of your posts prior to your departure! I know you were terribly excited to be making the trip down, and I am so sorry that I had to laugh at the circumstances (only after you had posted all was OK and there was no stroke involved). TV will be that much sweeter now, and you've got a whole bunch of new friends anticipating your arrival! Wish I could be right there with you!! Enjoy, and I am sure they will be able to fix you up in no time!

I said to be safe you need to listen. Your almost there take your time.:MOJE_whot:

Ocala Eye and Walmart I know can get it fixed for you.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes. I was able to drive some today to spell my wife, altough occassionally there were two of each car. We got here about 7pm and the house is great. We're SO happy to finally be here. Nice we hit sink hole season!

Please, just to make ME feel better, and I know you haven't met me. See a doctor here. Double vision isn't usually caused by incorrect lenses. it is always good to have an MD follow up on this or see an opthamologist who is an MD.
Welcome home. May you enjoy a thousand years here with us in Lower Paradise. Hugs. Our welcome mat is always out. Gracie |
Thanks Gracie, I was just sitting here thinking I do need to see one. I'm not sure what else they can do. I had a CT and MRI two days ago and they were clear, but I really cannot see well. of course I don't have any glasses that work. But even without glasses I see double much of the time, and I didn't before. Any chance you know an Ophthalmologist you can recommend?
As to the sink holes, if we had them in Kansas, I'm guess someone would make a tornado shelter out of it. of course a 10 foot deep sink hole in Kansas would be the deepest point in the state. It's a bit flat there. |
Hi Dave,,, I'm just seeing all your posts for the first time but you have me concerned. I truly believe you need to see an ophthalmologist not an optician to give you a good exam about what's going on... I went to Ocala Eye when I first arrived with my Dad and was extremely impressed with them. Please let me know if I can help you in any way. If you need a ride there, I'll be happy to do that. Take care and please keep us posted.

sent you a PM

Kathie thank you so much for your kind offer. My wife is here. I agree that I need to see one, but it will be Monday before anyone is open. I tried Ocala Eye and they do not take emergency calls for non-patients. I hope I can get in Monday somewhere.
Thanks again Dave |
