Yea don't you just love the intelligentsia among these prominent movie stars Jessica Parker, Sean Penn, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie John Travolta, Tom Hanks etc etc. Can you imagine the kind of voter that really are swayed by what they folks say :loco::confused::faint:

There are a smattering of Ivy League grads among the Hollywood A-List. Not sure how much they are into politics though. I would be surprized though if John Travolta were a Democrat same with Tom Hanks.

Did check-- Tom Hanks is a Democrat-- Tom Hanks - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cannot really get an answer with John Travolta.

I would though be more interested in what some celebrity's politics were than some Ivy League Philosophy, Law, or Literature professor's opinion on politics. Some celebrities are out in the world meeting a wide range of people with many different opinions. They could have some insight on what a politician like Barack Obama, William Clinton, or Mitt Romney is really like as well.

Do not also forget Ronald Reagan. Probably would be considered a B level actor, A level radio commentator, and quite a celebrity. Celebrity Influences Political Votes - ABC News

I also would argue that Oprah's endorsement of Barack Obama pretty much made Obama into a huge political force in the US. Oprah Winfrey's endorsement of Barack Obama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

None of the above mentioned celebrities could hold a candle to Mitt Romney intelligentsia supporter Ted Nugent.

Yeah, like Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Sharon Angle, Christine O'Donnell, Sherrif Joe Arpaio, Orly Taitz, et al.

All important issues for November...yes sir !!

I am right there with RichieLion. Who really cares if Sarah Jessica Parker hosts a fund raiser for Pres. Obama? I know I am not going and having her or any other actor or actress support a candidate is not going to influence me. It would be mighty sad if people were influenced on a candidate by actors or actresses.

I often wonder if consumers really are influenced by celebrity endorsements for products. Would you buy Prilosec antacid because Larry The Cable Guy is an actual user? Makes me wonder why companies pay those big bucks for endorsements - which makes the product more expensive for us.

With products, it's all about name recognition. If a celebrity causes you to remember a products name, as Larry the Cable Guy succeeded with you, the sponsor's goal has been realized. People are more apt to buy a name they know.

How that's transfers over to politics is unclear. We certainly don't need Ms. Parker to identify BHO for us. So, does this celebrity twit help or hurt Obama? I figure the answer is, neither.

This seems to be more of a factor the younger and/or less mature the voter is. Doubt if many senior voters would be swayed by a Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett or any other such person backing a politician. Lady Gaga though could sway young people's votes one way or another.

I also do not think the advertisers would be so quick to pick up celebrity endorsements from people like Lolo Jones, Tiger Woods, etc., if the products they are selling did not get some boost in sales from these celebrity associations.

Guest 06-05-2012 04:02 PM

Lolo Jones? Who the heck is that?

Guest 06-05-2012 04:33 PM

Yea, I guess we can lump her with Jane Fonda that turned in POW's in Vietnam to be beaten and killed.
Hollywood will always have gays and liberals.

Guest 06-05-2012 04:34 PM

buggyone, I was wondering the same thing.

She's the hurdler who fell at the last Summer Olympics in 2008. She looked like she was going to win Gold and then hit a hurdle.

She has 8 major endorsements. She is trying to get a medal during this Olympics in London. http://olympics.ocregister.com/2012/...ying-a-virgin/

You know, I was chided publicly for making posts that will not be considered issues this year......just curious how this thread falls into that category ????

Since I am the only one being chided publicly about this, thought I had the right to ask.

The issue was celebrities endorsing candidates. I believe that Chuck Norris is in Wisconsin right now working for Walker. Kind of ironic since Norris is known for Walker, Texas Ranger.

Is it your thought that these celebrities are a contributing issue in the election this fall ?

Since you were one who came after me publicly, just cuious

Do you do this for the Republican celebrity backers too?? Or is it just those who support Barack Obama??

If you buy into Ann Coulter's spiels about 90% of Hollywood is Democrat.

Guest 06-06-2012 07:32 AM

Celebrities have dinners for the same reason both Dem. & Rep. leaders have $25,000.00 a plate dinners - to raise money! SJP certainly won't be inviting the guy off the street corner to attend; she'll invite her other monied star friends to come and rub elbows with the Prez. All about the $$.

SIDE NOTE: I find all of these campaigns absolutely embarrassing to the outside world, as well as to the average Joe who's trying to make ends meet.

Cannot think of any other countries politics which are any better. Some of them are much worse. The wining and dining is done at the end of a gun.

Not getting into politics. Just saying that spending hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars to attain just 1 political post is practically sinful.

Guest 06-06-2012 10:52 AM

That's true. These are however some extremely influential positions that draw millions of dollars of campaigning.
