How long does the "rainy season" last around here?

Until September hopefully

What happens for fun during that rainy season? Are we talking Forrest Gump rainy?

Does it rain all day or just a brief afternoon shower to cool things down?

We've had tons of rain in Vermont for the past few months.
It seems much darker in the evenings with all the clouds and storms.
Just not like what June used to be.

After experiencing that nice autumn sunshine in TV, it seems awfully damp and rainy up here.........but seems like you also have the rain.

Colorado got hail and funnel clouds the other day......flooding too....after a winter with hardly any snow at all.

Weather is totally unpredictable lately.

Unless a tropical system is in the area, the norm is a daily storm in late afternoon, early evening. The storms can be intense; they are not usually a gentle rain shower.

Keep in mind that hurricane season runs through October, with September being prime part of the season for Florida.

Been in FL for 12 years - 9 in Sarasota, 3 in T.V. and this seems to me to be the longest, continuous, day long rainy stretch I have encountered.

Rainy season usually entails hard rain for a short part of each day, usually late afternoon.

This is unusual...I mentioned to my wife that this is one of the rare times I have said "I'm bored" here in FL!!!

But we needed it so I'll grin:D and bear it!

I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling a little bored. I have gotten so used to being outside playing all day that when I get stuck inside for a few days it seems like I'm in jail.

Glad the sun popped out today!! ANymore of this all day rainy weather and I was getting a little antsy!!

I was almost ready to head down to Home Depot/Lowes and start buying materials to build an ARK!!!

From the looks of the radar you guys are going to get clobbered in a short while?

And THIS is not the rainy season? It is coming in sideway on the screened in patio.

I like it too. But tell me, if this is NOT the rainy season, what is to be expected when it IS the rainy season?

Please remember that "Rainy Season" begins around the first of June and may go as long as the end of August.

Then again, it may last a day or so!

So far, what we've had in 2012 is unusually more than usual!

Like weather anywhere, count on things being "abnormal."

According to stats from The Weather Channel, rain spikes from June through September at over 6 inches per month - and then dramatically falls off for October through December to about 2 inches per month. The first part of the year (Jan - May) typically get 3-4 inches per month. The thing that caused the drought this winter was the La Nina effect which causes Florida to have drier winters and somewhat warmer.

From my experience being here, the weather we had yesterday (cloudy, dreary with widespread rain most of the day) was very atypical. Most rain that we get during the rainy season comes from a passing thunderstorm - sunny and bright most of the day, then perhaps 30 - 60 minutes of intense rain followed by clear conditions. Plus the storms are very isolated - one village can get dumped on and the neighboring village can get nothing.

I don't think this is going to be a 'predictable' rainy season. Some of the southeast was looking like a drought then the heavy rains kicked in.
Today, Pensacola got 13-14 inches! Yes, 13-14 since midnight. That is the second highest daily rainfall on record for them. Highest was in 1934 at 15 inches.

That is ark building weather!

So far the 10 day forecast shows 60% chance of scattered t-storms during the first part of my 6/17 LSV. Maybe they'll be the typical afternoon variety. If not, so be it. Fill up those ponds. :read: I'll bring some books.

I have been here for 2 days now. Definitely bring your umbrella. Yesterday afternoon's storm was a really gully washer. Bet that cleared off the golf courses.

Well, Schaumburger, I was actually in Schaumburg yesterday and I can tell you we are having a lovely stretch of blue skies and warm temps here in the Chicago suburbs! That so rarely happens... Still, I'd rather be in TV!!! I know the rain is welcome there.

We have been in drought conditions for so long! I hope we get a few sunny days and then MORE rain! But not on Thursday, I am moving house!
I know, I am picky! But seriously, we need to fill up those poor retention ponds......

That what it like in PA everyday nothing to do and very little sun .

I am the craziest person to come to Florida in June when June is normally the nicest month weather wise in the Chicago area (at least IMHO). But if I do move to TV at some point, I will be a Frog as I won't be able to maintain two homes. So I want to be sure I can handle the warmth and humidity of Florida in the summer. This is my 3rd summertime visit to TV -- so far so good. Keep things in Chicago under control until I get back there next week. :)
