Village Welcome to Explain Water?

As we are moving in, a woman arrived who said she was with the Villages Welcoming Committee. She said she wanted to give a demonstration on the water... I basically begged off since we were dealing with the chaos. Does anyone know what she is going to explain about the water and why does the Villages have a welcoming person talking about the water?

asianthree 06-29-2012 05:55 AM

selling you something you don't need. Never talk to a walk up company

shcisamax 06-29-2012 06:04 AM

Is this the company that does the ph balance etc act with all the little bottles and then wants to sell a $5500 system? Do they actually say they are with the Village Welcome committee? Is there a Village Welcome Committee? Honestly, if that woman comes back and she is "selling" something, I will boot her so fast.

Bogie Shooter 06-29-2012 06:28 AM

Better hide your checkbook.............wouldn't call it a scam, but pretty damn close.

Extremely good advice.

I think just about everyone has had a "water quality" person come to their door or call them. They will take a test tube of your tap water, add some black dye to it, the water will turn dark and they will tell you it is bad water and you need a whole house water filter costing several thousand dollars.

One of my friends had bought a re-sale home with one of those filters installed by the previous owner. The visitor came with the test kit and the water turned dark. It was one of their own filters. They almost ran out of the house when my friend told them and then showed them it was one of their own filters. YES, IT IS A SCAM.

drdodge 06-29-2012 06:57 AM

you may want to install a water softner. Helps a lot. if you do go to Home Depot or Lowes and you can buy one for around 500 dollars. Also go on line and read about water softners , You will be better educated

I already installed what I need. What I am furious about is for this woman to represent herself as a free service that THE Villages Welcoming Committee offers. I was just being nice because she was a TV representative. I can tell you that that woman is going to have about 12 seconds with me when she returns all of which to would be labeled inappropriate on this site.

hotrodgirl 06-29-2012 07:23 AM

Thanks for that warning as I will begin my build in a couple of months! What angers me is that she totally misrepresented herself as part of The Villages family... I intend to put a "NO SOLICITORS" sign on my door!

Bill-n-Brillo 06-29-2012 07:27 AM

if the lady returns, ask her to show some ID that supports her claim of affiliation with TV. THEN you can lay into her................ :icon_wink:

Bill :)

Our sales rep told us that before we could get the key in the door there would be a half dozen water treatment people runnung up the driveway. We snuck in at night. The next afternoon there were 3 business cards stuck in the door. The must have an insider at the key office.

delima2000 06-29-2012 07:47 AM

When we moved in we had plenty of phone calls about the welcoming committee and wanted to test our water. I told them no way and then the person came to my house and yelled at me for being rude to his sales person. We were inloading our pod and he flew up in his car ran up to us and demanded I let them in to test my water.. What a scam. I called TV and they told me that the water is fine and do not let them in. If they came back to call community watch and they will escort them out. DON't let them in.:throwtomatoes:

We have lived in two new homes in TV over the last three years. To us the water seems fine. We do a lot of laundry and it comes out fine. Shampoo works well, soap is soapy. The water tastes fine and we haven't yet seen stains appear on sinks etc. Also no one has knocked on our door to purchase water conditioners. What have we missed?

We're in the same boat as you except that we purchased a pre-owned home. Not a single doorbell, card left, phone call since we purchased! I have a feeling that this happens mostly to new homes rather than pre-owned.

This was our experience as well - bought a resale......no calls. We did get a few solicitations mailed to us, though - can't remember what they were for.

Didn't think about the mail solicitations. That's probably because they have a closer relationship with the trash can than with us! :1rotfl:

99% of the ones I receive don't even get opened. But if you're interested in aggravating them, if there is a post paid return envelope, send it back empty.

They only pay for the postage on the envelopes that are actually mailed. I know, it's only a few cents, but if millions of people did this some of these companies might think about being more selective about who they send this stuff to.

Ragman 06-29-2012 09:12 AM

Take the gift card and run

One of them offers a $ 25 gift card for a national restaurant group. Listen to the spiel for a short time, get the card, and go have a nice lunch on them.

Got a Sears hybrid softener/filter installed < $ 1000 with extended warranty and it works great. Don't pay $ 1000's.

I was under the same attack. I had some lady show up at my door with a 2ft around basket, loaded with what looked like Cracker Jack toys and travel brochures. I tried not to be rude but asked her to leave. Made me mad that they get all up in your face with everything. Guess its just the way things are these days. Just remember to say NO THANKS. You will figure out what you need all by yourself. I was welcomed by my neighbors and they did'nt try to sell me a thing.

delima2000 06-29-2012 10:49 AM

It happens on a pre owned home too. It happened to us as I posted before.

Can you contact someone in TV about this scam.

shcisamax 06-29-2012 05:24 PM

We'll see after she returns.

jnieman 06-29-2012 06:31 PM

There actually is a welcome wagon that came to our house about 6 months after we moved in in 2008. She brought us a big stack of material about the Villages and some very useful coupons. She was not there selling anything.

joycenemetz 06-29-2012 07:35 PM

My experience with "The Villages Welcome Wagon" - two days after our closing I received a call from "the welcome wagon" - she wanted to stop by with goodies and coupons and to test our water (that should have been the first clue). Anyway, I made the appointment, she showed up but my husband wasn't home - he had to run to the hardware store - she said my husband had to be there, didn't even test the water and I didn't even get one coupon. Don't trust ANYONE that wants to test your water! And, there is no welcome wagon!

I think they get your phone number only if you have a land line. We've moved twice in the past 2 years and both times, we have had the calls. We did get a water softener, but not from any of the people that called. We didn't even have any of the callers come by.

Give these people the time of day and you've given them way too much. This is a business trying to represent itself as something else. Would you intentionally let any other type of vermin into your house?

I'm new to all of this. How do they get passes to get by the gates? Or do they live amoungst us?

Um A-4, you don't need passes to get by the gates. All you have to do is push the little red button.

It is still one of the safest places in the country. Not a bit different from the area in Ohio that I came from. Sleep well.

Lol. Sorry to disturb your sleep but you were bound to find out eventually.

p.s., I agree with Gracie.

We're arriving Sunday and the furniture arrives Monday. I've got a pass, but I can't wait to try the little red button:boom: I didn't mean to say things were not secure at TV. I've lived in places where your neighbors thought that everything in your garage and house was just as much theirs as it was yours. :ohdear:

I don't want a water softener and we're so dam excited about getting there we can't stand it. Did you see everyone line dancing at LSL on the webcam tonight.

P.S. I don't dance

:welcome: I'm excited for you too! We don't call this Lower Paradise for nothing.

BTW, check out SS sometime when you get settled too. The line dancing regulars there are amazing.

All best wishes in your new home.

You don't, you betta learn quick, your pass will be deactivated if you don't swipe it at the square in 10 days, that what my wife tells me anyway.

That is true isn't it?

A-4 Skyhawk 06-29-2012 08:53 PM

Thanks for the good wishes.

Someone told me how to blow up the Webcam picture last week. Tonight I said, Honey come look at this. This mass of hummanity shuffling left, spinning around, and then back to the right. She said she thought she could get me out there with a little refreshment.

The big guy is going to kick me out for not talking about water softeners, isn't he?

hotrodgirl 06-29-2012 08:56 PM

Wouldn't worry about the Big Guy! You all made my heart smile tonight!

Please tell your Honey she has just been deputized as a member of the Girl's Posse. We don't soften the water. Ours comes out rather hard. :D

We were there two months ago on air mattresses. We met a lady at the Lighthouse who claimed she hadn't taken her car out of the garage in 6 months. (A cart person) Boy, I hope she knows about that little red button if she ever decides to take her car out some day.

And I still don't want a water softener:icon_wink:

She wants to know if the Posse is affiliated with community watch, do you get a badge, and is that why TV is so safe and secure?

No water softeners, Big Brother

Nay, none of that. We're just a figment of our fertile imagination.
