Chris Christie just proved for anyone who had any doubts about him, and count me large in that category, that he's not ready for prime time.

People were thinking about him in the GOP VP slot??

Some people actually wanted him as the Presidential candidate??

I think he just blasted himself into non-consideration.

Who do you think will be the Republican VP candidate? My personal bet is Rob Portman of Ohio. Mitt Romney needs to win Ohio, this is a pretty good way to attempt winning Ohio.

Rubio is not the choice of Hispanics other than Cubans so he would not be a big pull.

Alan West is too neo-conservative and would be seen as crazy as Palin was. Romney must have a moderate running mate no matter what the tea party wants.

Oh my goodness. Palin actually endorsed West as her VP candidate (in an interview with Sean Hannity)?

I didn't hear the interview, but I'd sure like to hear Palin's argument why a guy who spent 20 years in the army only achieving the rank of light colonel, then relieved of his command and forced to retire because of a court martial judgement, would be a good choice for VPOTUS?

I really don't know of West's mental state, but this endorsement seems to demonstrate that Sarah Palin has even less good judgement now than she did when she was a candidate for VPOTUS herself. I'd put Palin and West in the same category where Richie placed Chris Christie...not even remotely close to being ready for prime time.

In the long run it really doesn't matter. When the VP choice is announced it will cause a temporary stir but then by the time elecions roll around all that will matter is what each individual thinks is the best chice to protect his financial situation

Rubicon, my friend, you are all wrong on this one. The VP candidate is very important. In my opinion, just like millions of others, McCain was the man and the way to go in 2008 and then he picked a complete loser for VP. Palin lost the election for the Republicans.

Put up some reactionary with nothing functioning above the shoulders like she was and kiss the White House goodbye.

There are enough similar incidents on Christie that the negative adds showing his temper and bluster disqualify him for the VP or Pres. could result in a full season of reality TV. :D

I too see Portman as being Mitt Romney's choice. I actually think Sarah Palin helped John McCain get more votes than a more conservative pick would have had. All the attacks by Democrats and the media on Sarah Palin made many of the Tea Partiers vote for her even more quickly.

Since then it seems like Sarah Palin's major concern is with making money rather than with politics.

So, who do you think would make a good VP candidate for Romney and would be a winning political asset to the campaign?

Still think Obama/Biden will win in November. Maybe not by very much but they now have the ObamaCare win with Chief Justice Roberts decision which was the major project of Obama's Administration tacking on with the AZ immigration control ruling which was also a victory for Obama/Biden.

Rice could be the kind of pick to overcome these obstacles but I cannot see her jumping into the fray like that. She seems too smart to want something like a VP seat in her life.

Gov. Christie is a street brawler style politician. He would add some spice to the vanilla Romney campaign but people won't warm to that. Portman who? would be most folks reaction. This is going to be the biggest decision that Gov. Romney makes in this campaign. He needs to get it right (not too far right) to pull it off.

no matter who he picks, within 24 hours the talking points will be issued and he/she will be torn apart by the Obama machine and supporters.

And there are some of us who do not see the supreme court decision on Obamacare as handing him the re-election. Pun intended, but the jury is still out on that one with the verdict forthcoming in November.

we have a town full of politicians including Obama that know how to talk about the economy with nothing happening, no initiatives or stands being taken as a result.

How about someone who can commit to doing something and the voters having confidence that they just might be able to do something. It requires a candidate willing to challenge the business as usual.

Chris Christie is a big fat bag of wind. Can't believe that Ann Coulter said (I'm paraphrasing) Christie must be our nominee. If Mitt Romney's our nominee, we lose. First time ever, I agreed with Ann Coulter.

Portman would probably be safe, but not a game-changer. I strongly disagree that Palin helped Jmac get more votes. The tea partiers would have voted for joe the plumber over Obama, and independents largely were turned off by Palin. As for Christie, he is refreshingly candid, smart, and funny, however he is a loose cannon who could create a fatal, you-tube fiasco any time he is off-message. I like Christie and would prefer having beers with him over any other politician I can think of, but Richie is right, not ready, and I am not sure he can ever change who he is.

I agree, Buggy. It was that choice--that of a 70+ year old man who was a multiple cancer survivor--that cost him my vote.

You're mistaking me for somebody else. I'm OK with Christie taking on the state's teacher's unions and such but I've never been a huge fan of this mainly left of center Republican.

I'm the one who was arguing against him when some of the others on this forum thought he would be a great Presidential nominee and an even better VP pick.
