Now we can't share info????
Just got this link and it is amazing how brazen the gov't is in censoring the communication of information. Where is the self-empowerment and self responsibility in this picture? Where does this leave blogs and message boards?
Is the ADA Manipulated by the Food Industry? Also got an update on the Merck story and I thought it was worth sharing. Is the ADA Manipulated by the Food Industry? LW888 |

FDA Orders Dr. Joseph Mercola to Stop Illegal Claims |
I choose to look beyond any FDA accusations. I have used some of Dr. Mercola's products over the years, and found them to be useful. I have been a subscriber since the inception and found that it was a useful site to get very current info from developers, researchers and other people in related areas of health and life. I have found that in the long run, things I have heard or read on the site have been shown to have merit (eg. higher doses of Vit D) long before it becomes both popular and accurate according to the general medical community.
I cannot even go to the place of following FDA recommendations as I have yet to find them useful and since learning years ago about the connection between the FDA and Monsanto and following the dots, I still feel as strongly about how the public is being led by $$$. It amazes me how some very intelligent, educated, well-intended people, give their power away and trust their lives to others when they can get the information and learn and decide for themselves. I believe there is a place for the use of pharmaceuticals, but only as a last resort. I also believe that the tried and true practices of TCM and Homeopathy which are far older than Western Medicine, can keep most people in a better state of true health. As for as Quackwatch, I can't even begin to go there. If that is a site that someone feels drawn to for their information, then we are on very different paths and it would be a challenge for me to have an intelligent conversation as it is so far from how I am moving in the world. That being said, I am glad that more people are at least searching for info. I keep remembering how new ideas are usually, ignored, ridiculed and/or rejected, before they become commonly accepted. It makes me happy to know that more and more people are becoming interested in self direction. After all, life is really about living the choices we make, whether we choose consciously or by default. I'm doing my best to live consciously and I see more and more who are making the same choice. Heck, we all chose one way or the other to live in TV! LW888 |

Just returned from family vacation plus visiting with grandchildren and spotted this post.........just wondering if you've had luck with his website responding to potential customer's questions and/or orders? About a year ago, I contacted them (link below) re their free range chickens and other products.........not one response. I contacted them again and ditto. ???? At the time I didn't know he was on a quack list, whatever that is. My opinion is that anyone who wishes to run a viable website from which to sell their products, should also read their correspondence and check their orders daily..........all of the major online "stores" are speedy to reply and fulfill an order, sending immediate confirmations......... http://products.mercola.com/images/clear.gif "Free-Range Certified 100% Organic Chicken: An Exceptionally Clean, Healthy and Delicious Source of Essential Protein!" Eating clean and healthy protein is absolutely crucial if you want to prevent disease and premature aging, increase your daily energy and live longer. But unlike the unhealthy chicken you'll find in grocery stores and restaurants, which you should restrict in your diet (as you will read below), this free-range certified organic chicken is one of the cleanest and healthiest sources of protein that you will find anywhere. As many of you know, I only recommend foods that meet the highest of requirements in terms of their health value to you. Well, it has taken my team many months of research and evaluation to find and finally offer you an organic chicken product that comes with my absolute highest recommendation because it meets all of these qualifications for a perfect meat:
The mass-produced chicken you find in grocery stores, are typically inhumanely raised in extremely cramped quarters where they can barely move. This creates stress in the chickens that can lead to disease and the need for antibiotics. Stressed growing conditions can also cause "stunted" meat devoid of taste and total health value, hence creating the need for chemicals to artificially moisten the meat. Organic, free-range chickens, on the other hand, have plenty of room to roam and eat their entirely natural diets. Thriving in a stress-free environment, this makes all the difference in the world in terms of their health and taste value to you. Another crucial reason this free-range organic chicken is an exceptional source of protein in your diet is because it is free of antibiotics. Over half of the antibiotics fed to mass-produced farm animals including chickens, are identical to the ones administered to humans. As has been well publicized in the media, overuse of such antibiotics can lead to strains of bacteria resistance to the antibiotic, opening doors wider to the potential for human disease. (*See The World Health Organization report, "WHO Global Strategy for Containment of Antimicrobial Resistance," for more information on this. This report states that farmers' use of antibiotics in livestock enables microbes to build up defenses against the drugs, leap up in the food chain and attack human immune systems, and they're one of many major health organizations that call for an end to such antibiotics in poultry and livestock.) In the opinion of David Gorski, a doctor who runs a site similar to Barrett’s (ScienceBasedMedicine.org), the problem is that Mercola either vastly exaggerates preliminary research or cherry-picks studies that bolster his point of view. Gorski believes that Mercola also ignores data that prove him wrong or pushes far beyond what is scientifically sound, using scare tactics to make his point. For example, his site includes an article by a California doctor titled “HIV Does Not Cause AIDS.” Mercola posted a comment at the end of the article: “Exposure to steroids and the chemicals in our environment, the drugs used to treat AIDS, stress, and poor nutrition are possibly the real causes.” |

I'm not talking backwoods uneducated folks, but highly educated, multiple degrees, well read, well spoken generation of young parents who are afraid of immunizing their babies..........whereas we just did what was expected in the 1960's and 1970's.......without doing any research into it one way or another. My son was the generation when they STOPPED giving the smallpox shots. Our first child did get that innoculation; he did not. At the time, other young moms, myself included, wondered if someday when those little boys grew up to adulthood..........and a smallpox epidemic came about , would they be all wiped out? However, we did not "rock the boat"..... It's interesting to hear the different viewpoints of young parents today vs when we raised our children.......... For example, he opposes immunization [4] |
To answer your question, Senior Citizen, and thanks Bare
I have always ordered anything from Mercola by phone and have always had a live person and good customer service. I don't remember seeing anything about live products and probably if it was at the time I was in Canada I would have ignored it.
Just to set the record straight, when I first subscribed to Mercola, it was before he was selling products. He was one of the first to go on the internet and his goal was to educate more people about how to take personal responsibility for one's health and he wanted to let people know that "big brother" was not watching out for us. I found his interviews with the researchers and developers most interesting and I still feel that his research team does a good job of keeping abreast of what is actually going on. Over the years as the product list grew, I too became disenchanted, however, I would always find interesting facts in the articles that would be hard to research for myself. His link to the VIt D council newsletter, long before the need for more Vit D became more public, has been invaluable. At one point I put the letter on "spam" just to reduce the inbox stuff and I was dropped from the subscription list. When I started to realize that I wasn't getting the info, I called to resubscribe, even though I usually get my products from other sources. I did get the Air Purifier which to me is the best one on the market and it was at the best price. Although it is a portable, it still does the whole house. I am very conscious of what some others think of the info from Mercola, but my strategy is to read and feel for myself what resonates with all the other info that I have learned and am getting. The whole paradigm of health, healing and wellness is changing and shifting as more info and understanding about quantum theory and vibrational medicine becomes more understood and widespread. I think that Mercola has a good sense of that and is open to sharing what he feels will be useful. Too much info will affect the readership as he knows that even people who read his newsletter are on different parts of the path to wellness and self-direction. His 7 steps to good health plan does not require the purchasing of any of his products and they are not so "weird" that more people can work the plan, so that will mean that more people will continue down the path which is his mission - taking responsibility for one's own health and life. If his approach doesn't feel right, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is wrong. We all are not be at the same point in our journey so at any given moment in time, there will be things that are not "right" for everyone. However, when you have read something, it adds to your total world view, and as your picture enlarges, those bits of info that may not have made sense before, might just be the pieces that you need to make sense of some new info that you have received. How many time have you remembered something that you "heard somewhere" that at the time didn't make any sense and later you realize how it relates to you. So my philosophy is not to throw the baby out with the bath and remember about the ridicule, reject and ignore before acceptance saying. Sorry for the long hijack. I just felt I needed to clarify my position. I hope I'm not as "weird" as some seem to feel, although I know that I am somewhat "out there".........but life is good and TV is a big place! There's room for us all. |

I hear you. I appreciate your input. A friend had recommended his site to me when we were discussing free range chicken (in person); I went to the site later and had some questions which no one ever responded to. I wasn't confident or certain that this wasn't an abandoned website just floating around in cyberspace. I understand what you mean by being selective in choosing various products. I thought I wanted that latest gizmo which I believe is an infrared, hand held device, for arthritic knees, etc............received it as a gift.......it would be nice if it was larger or I didn't have to hold it in place with the arthritic wrist. Can't win. It wasn't purchased from Mercola, but some other website............the heat is soothing......but it's teeny tiny......later Dr. Oz showed the same gizmo. Or similar. Mine was the: LED Technologies DPL Nuve Handheld Light Therapy Device It was well over $150............at the time, it was being sold for arthritic pain; now I see it's being sold for "wrinkles". Obviously, I'm not using it. So, I do hear you about being selective with these products............................. I always liked Oz when he was on Oprah..........but his new show, as others have noted to me as well........seems to be a mass advertising campaign for various supplements, etc. Has anyone out there tried "JOINT JUICE" which Joe Montana advertises on t.v.? It has no shellfish in it's glucosamine chondroitin formula.....just "corn". They answered me immediately........so to me that's a sign of a viable website.........it was a real person, not a form letter emailing............ |
As for me, I tend to be pretty skeptical of products making health claims that haven't had "valid" proven research and results. Unfortunately, many (especially seniors looking for the fountain of youth or "something") are not informed enough to make good decisions regarding a lot of these products offered over the INTERNET. It is very easy to spend lots of $$$$ for worthless products helping to fill the pockets of "scam" artists. For those who can determine the difference, more power to you. As for most of us, I say be careful out there!

I have a few of the infrared lights and an LED too. From what I have learned, it really depends on the purpose as to which works best. For arthritic pain I have found that the infrared works for temporary relief but getting a handle on the inflammation is the key. I think that the adrenal support and MMS gel are helping my hands, which are stiff on occasion but not overly sore. I also believe that going more gluten and sugar free and doing Tai Chi has helped my whole constitution and all the "stiff" areas.
You might be interested in looking at Louise Hay's Heal your Body. It has been around for ages, and is still the best source for me about what the body is trying to tell me. You may know all about her already, but if not I thought you might resonate with her ideas. FWIW. LW888 |

For me it isn't about being well-educated but rather being open minded. I know lots of PHDs and MDs and other highly "educated" people whose ability to intuitively sense and listen to themselves is low. In fact the more "logical" they are, the more they tend to rely on "scientific" explanations and "professional" opinions. That is not to say that there isn't a place for that in decision making, but it is only one of many aspects related to health and healing. So many of the other aspects are "intangible" and often bear more weight in the successful outcome. Daily we are hearing about these intangibles and many people have difficulty getting a handle on the ramifications. It is always easier to follow a prescriptive path than to forge the one that is best for you at the time. We are all doing the best we can at and give moment and each person has his/her own reasons for deciding on anything. I'm doing my best to stay open to any info and sense what might work for me at this moment. Life is always in flux and today's decision might be rejected tomorrow if new info comes across the desk and/or an unwanted outcome arises. Decisions are not written in stone and there is never a wrong decision. It is always the one you thought was the best one at that moment. Our brains are designed to find "answers" to our questions, whether they are the "right" ones or not. If we could be taught to listen to our bodies and our intuition, I think that would serve us well. Trusting myself is a life long lesson and one that I continually work to allow myself to do. And the more I "go with my gut" the more info my body tends to give me as I seem to be "listening" to it more. It is funny how that works. It really is an inside job. LW888 |

Is that a rhetorical question or do you think the FDA is truly watching out for the people? How can you trust FDA guidelines and suggestions when products with aspertame are still on the shelves and HFCS is supported. Why aren't the masses taught about neurotoxicity and excitotoxins in the food? There are currently so many names for MSG that are allowed that it is impossible to know where it is. How come Monsanto still is so strong an influence when it has been shown to be a corporation with out a soul. How can anyone say that GMO products are safe when they haven't been around through enough generations to make that kind of claim. Why can't the products that have GMO ingredients have labels that inform us of that? And you ask me if I think that the FDA is an openminded organization? To me an openminded organization would look at the whole picture and support transparency and a variety of approaches and give the people enough quality info that each person could choose for himself.

I just received this from the Center for Biological Diversity regarding the FDA: Lawsuit Seeks to Protect Public From Mercury in Fish
And VillagesPL, In many states it is NOT the parents' choice to immunize or not immunize their children. Most school districts require the Kindergarten shots before children can start school. The parents who choose to home-school, or refuse to immunize on religious grounds could be the reason why we are seeing so many cases of whooping cough recently? Just my 2 cents, but Drs. Oz & Dr. Mercola seem to be the only doctors out there who actually acknowledge that there is a connection between nutrition and health. Maybe other doctors will begin to pay attention to them? |
And BTW Dr. Mercola brought the mercury concern up a number of years ago and advised not to eat fish without checking for the source especially when there was a push to get people off meat and on to more fish for the omega-3. That is when he started recommending Krill oil as an omega 3 source.
Ujudy the letter you got illustrates exactly what I feel about the FDA. Hopefully as more people recognize what is happening and take action, we will maintain our right to choose how we want to look after our health. LW888 |

Same day, I later read a book that said corn is NOT good for arthritics. So, this book was lumping "corn" the vegetable (not just high fructose corn syrup) in with meat, dairy, sugar, processed foods, etc. as aggravating joint inflammation, pain, etc. However, if you go to the JOINT JUICE website.....they have quite a few positive comments....although it can take 8 weeks to "kick in" as Joe Montana alludes to in his infomercial.........I don't have a shellfish allergy, just didn't like the thought of not knowing exactly where this shellfish cartilage or whatever it is..comes from. Dirty polluted waters? Amazon.com has different "types" of JOINT JUICE......and one of them that I noticed, has artificial sweetener..........which I've always avoided. It really is all so contradictory.........that's the only word I can think of so early in the morning..........anyway, my son advised me not to waste my money. When our climate is dry and sunny, it's not so bad.....but today, humid, muggy with a large storm front appoaching.......I doubt if all the joint juice in the world is going to help these wrists to type or the shoulder to feel better. The infra red Nuvee was supposed to help the blood circulation and soothe the knee pain.........but one would have to sit all day holding it. I wonder if anyone has had any luck with TOMMY COPPER various products? |

Many thanks.............. p.s. Yes, I do remember her book from years ago..........I just refreshed my memory.......however, although I understand the mind/body connection theory, I can't buy it for all illnesses.......or discomforts when many are familial, running in families.......again, I would believe them to be more genetically inherited. What about little innocent babies and children with brain tumors? They didn't have time to accumulate anger, criticism, etc., etc. as she explains her theory. Unless she is into past life recall??? I haven't read the book in ages....but just checked it out on amazon.com..........did not add it to my kindle. My mother read her book/books.......... Louise Hay doesn't include modern day pain type ailments such as fibromyalgia which is true pain for anyone experiencing it........ Dr. Neal Barnard has some extremely interesting books on the food / pain / illness connection...........modern diet as cause of many ills. However, it is all interesting "food for thought" and I thank you............ |

For some reason, glucosamine seems to work really well for dogs! The Orijen dogfood that I buy has glucosamine added. And I know people who swear by it. When I had horses, I had two farriers who said they wouldn't be able to work if it weren't for glucosamine/MSM. And shoeing horses is hard work. I've never had any success with glucosamine, but it's hard to tell because it doesn't work immediately, it takes 6-8 weeks to work. I've tried the liquid kind which is supposed to work more quickly, nothing, da nada. I see ads on TV for prescription drugs, and they show Wrinklies skipping around like children. Tempting. But then they list the possible side effects and I'm not a bit tempted. |

1) There's Dr. Sears of the Zone philosophy, although, I don't follow him anymore because he has become preoccupied with selling books and products. 2) T. Colin Campbell Ph.D author of "The China Study". It's an excellent book that covers all aspects of health and nutrition. I highly recommend it. 3) I don't know what's going on with Oz on TV because I don't watch TV., but I have one of his books and I think it's very worthwhile reading. 4) "Beyond The 120 Year Diet" by Roy L. Walford M.D.. He makes a very strong connection between nutrition, health and longevity. I don't agree with everything he wrote but I still consider the book to be highly worthwhile reading. 5) The book, "The Okinawa Program" is the result of a 20+ year population study of the longest lived people in the world. It tells how the Japanese lifestyle, in Okinawa, promotes health and longevity. Most of it has to do with diet. I could go on and on but you get the idea. There are a lot of good authors who acknowledge a connection between nutrition and health. You just have to look for them. And there are many who don't try to make a business out of selling health products. Once an author goes down that road, as Mercola has done, he/she can no longer afford to tell the complete truth. The truth gets compromised. |
Agree with everything - and often things are found and work long before it's common knowledge - thanks for your thoughts !

You're right. It is a professional state association. I was just blown away by the thought that any state sanctioned group could stop people sharing information. I guess it shouldn't surprise me, it just seems so ridiculous and regressive. People can get info from so many sources and should be able to judge for themselves what works for them, without having to get the info from only one specific source.

As far as vaccinating or not: My daughter had a reaction to the pertussis part of the DPT vaccination when she had her first shot, age nine months? They said she should not take the follow up shot(s). She did get whooping cough when she was 12 or 13 when it was really scarce in our area. It was pretty significant. Afterwards, she developed asthma. Just passing on our experience.
