Soft serve anyone??

Aside from the soft ice cream shop in the back of one of the stores in SS, are there any other soft ice cream shops around? Even on 441/27? Really miss the wonderful soft ice cream we had up north.

Patty55 07-24-2012 05:16 PM

Nothing like up north, but I think they have cones in that place in LSL-can't remember the name of it. I've kind of gotten okay with McDonald's

Try Ollies! Frozen custard. So YUMMY! On 27/441 in the Publix shopping center by Buenos Aires Blvd. Ollies is tucked in the corner near the end by Subway. I guarantee, you can't go wrong. Their flavor of the day is always on page A2 of the Daily Sun.

Chick-Fil-A

If you have never tried Chick-Fil-A solf serve, you're in for a treat! Closest thing to homemade we've found. Yes, it is soft serve. There is one on 441 - 730 N Us Highway 441, The Villages, FL 32159

patty - would that be ambrosia's that you are thinking of? luv, luv, luv the vanilla ice cream/orange ice swirl they serve!

kb8tpw 07-24-2012 05:41 PM

Ollies is great. Close, but different is Peach Wave yogurt in Colony beside Cici's or High Five near McDonalds out on 466 strip. Having said all of that I'd like to see a dairy queen. Their sugar free bars are hard to get and always our first stop when we head north on I-75.

Yep, that's it

Ollie's Boston Shake

Great frozen custard, plus something I never heard of until visiting Ollie's:

Boston Shake--Is our Regular Milk Shake topped with a small
sundae on top plus whip cream & a cherry.

BobKat1 07-24-2012 07:14 PM

Is there a Culver's near TV? Around here they've been running a lot of ads for their variety of frozen custard. It's always been their soft serve.

Love DQ Sure wish we'd get one here!

Will Try Chick Fil A. We've been to Peachwave but we want real ice cream not frozen yougart or custard.

Warren Kiefer 07-24-2012 08:26 PM

No problem "Daon". . . just spot me 8 strokes next time. If you haven't tried Chick-Fil-A (CFA), I'm telling you, it's the closest to homemade we've tried. We like McDonald's and others, but their soft serve is real smooth. CFA has a little iciness to it like the old hand churned homemade ice cream I remember. The flavor is nice as well. We use to go by for a cone most everytime we ate out. They call their's "icedream". Now, we've gotten too lazy to drive a mile and just keep a DQ ice cream cake in the freezer! :icon_hungry:

Ditto on Peachwave, Asian three. We know what is good.

Here it is...A generous scoop of peanut butter with peanut butter topping.

Helene says Peanut butter with chocolate topping...

And Sweetie says Raspberry.

Serve all on a hot July evening and savor the coldness as you sit outside Peachwave and chat with others doing the same.

Lower Paradise. Just what PTurner always says about this wonderful place that is our hometown.

Makes you grateful for hot weather. What a treat.

buzzy 07-25-2012 09:44 AM

Ollies is the closest thing to the frozen custard that they had on Long Island when I was growing up.

We had two Dairy Queens........both went out of business.

It would be high calorie heaven to have a Culver's open up here in TV ... LOVE their frozen custard and I'm a southern gal!

Culvers is excellent...very much a Midwestern chain. One Culvers in South Carolina and 10 in Texas - that is the closest to TV that Culvers is located at the present time. Much better fast food than McDonalds.

The new Baskin Robins (next to the hospital) has both soft serve and hand packed ice cream.

Not too long ago we had two DQ's in The Villages. Both were owned by the same guy. They sold their buildings and left. Have no idea why.

EdV 07-26-2012 07:26 AM

Frozen custard has a higher egg content than ice cream. The taste doesn’t really appeal to me but I know some people are crazy about it.

John_W 07-26-2012 04:42 PM

We go to Ocala probably twice a month and we always stop on the way back at the Dairy Queen in the Pilot Gas Station about halfway on I-75. There is the Don Garlit Drag Racing Museum and a Jet Fighter on the east side and on the west side you'll see the Pilot which has the DQ and a Wendys. Also there is a Golf Outlet and Golf Shoe Store in the shopping center there. You'll see billboards for all those, it's exit 341 Marion Oaks.

Pilot - 2020 SW CR-484 - Ocala, FL - Florida Gas Prices

Also the McDonalds at Colony has $1 vanilla cones and now they have them chocolate dipped for $1.30. However the chocolate is almost too rich and thick. I just came from having one there, I'll probably forgo the dipping in the future at McDonalds.
