Directions to TV From NH
 

Sold our house in Hampton Beach NH Passing papers Sept. 15 Bought house down there in 2009 and will soon be FROGS To pick some brains, am driving down what route would you think is best? Thanks in advance

Welcome...you'll love it here even though you are leaving my old stomping grounds as a teenager. I practically lived at the Hampton Beach Casino dances in the late 60's. Even went to the afternoon dances starting at age 10 with my cousins. Those were the days. But I digress.......we came down Rt 81 to 77 to 20 thru the Blue Ridge Mountains. Nice ride, missed all the major cities and traffic, nice rest areas too. Go to AAA and they'll route it out for you. Have a safe trip!

I hate to be a dope, but what does the "FROG" term I'm seeing represent? I'd to use it incorrectly.

We bought in Buttonwood in May, but still live up here in New England. Also, any suggestions on how to move a small amount of furniture down in Sept.? We'll be visiting then for two weeks.

I agree Nancy, it's the best way driving to or from New England! Much less traffic, better roads, much prettier than 95! And it's approx. the same mileage when I drove to Mass. Plus you're mostly driving through rural country instead of heavy traffic through all the big East Coast cities.

If you have an SUV and hitch rent a U-haul trailer and have The Village Mover unload it for you. Or call or look online at PODS. They can link you to a firm to load. You can send it ahead of you and the price includes 30 days of storage.

We did exactly the same as you are planning. But we got a triptik from AAA which gave us a great relaxed drive down Rt 81 to 77 through the Blue Ridge Mountains, but we used 26 to 95S. Really nice ride and decent hotels on the way. We also came down earlier, borrowed a small trailer which could be securely locked and left in a hotel parking lot at night.

By the way, we are on our way back to Hampton Beach for the month of August! Cannot wait for the lobster, and then I'll be ready to get back home here in TV .........................

Thanks so much! We are so excited about moving down in the next few years. The house is only partially furnished now, but we're working hard so we can have some company visit next year.

Didn't realize you had never done this trip before - you are in for a treat.

So .......... when you come off the Mass Pike onto 84 in Connecticut, make sure you get off at exit 65 (I think) and have breakfast at Rines NY Deli. It will be posted on 84 on a huge billboard. This place you will never forget, we used to stop for breakfast and buy something for the road ...... and if you like Jewish bread and real, and I do mean REAL bagels, stop there on the way back up north and stock up. We used to buy two dozen bagels and eat almost a dozen before we got home.

Most of the routes from the northeast will want to put you onto route 301 just west of Jacksonville. But be forewarned that this will be taking you through some of the most notorious speed traps in the country. I’m talking about nailing you for 31mph in a 30mph school zone that comes up out of nowhere.

Yep, do the I-81 bit, ever-so-much nicer and only a couple of hours longer. Pretty country except for the ugly wind farms. Check out how small the footprints are of the natural gas fracking sites.

And Hampton Beach? Great place to go in the 50s when I was in high school. It had such a clean reputation that it was the only beach parents would allow their daughters to go for a weekend. I swear, every girl there was from Dorchester, Massachusetts, every one had names like Mary Catherine, Mary Elizabeth, Mary Agnes, etc. And Dorchester was pronounced Doah' chestuh.

Spent many a happy weekend there in '55 & '56.

I also grew up in NH, but further North around Conway, in the ski country. I would drive 95 all the way, just manage your time to miss rush hour around NY and DC. It is about 150 miles longer to go the 81 route. If your bringing the bike, consider the auto train once past DC. You just ride it on a pallet, they strap it down and a crane lifts it on to the train. Great riding around The Villages. I am taking mine down later this fall on the train.

Welcome NH!!! We moved from Manchester area in 2006. Best way is 95 after Worcester Mass, except I suggest you go over Tapanzee Bridge, instead of George Washington. Take Garden State Pkwy to NJ Turnpike, then clear sailing on 95 all the way into Florida. Stop at Welcome Center in Fl for free Orange juice!! hehe Then 295 (I think) to Route 10, then to Rt301-27-441all the way to The Villages (Its 3 hours from entering Florida. Happy Sailing

I think the best way would be 95 south to mas pike to 84 to PA then to 81 west to 77 south to 26 sout and back to 95 you will mis allthe big city like New york ,Was. It will take throw the blue rige Mt. nice ride

Go to The I-95 Exit Information Guide - Campground and RV Parks It is a great resource for the trip from the north to Florida. There is also a book available. We have used both for our trips from Vermont to The Villages.
