Century Link sales person

Just had a gentleman stop at my front door today and was selling Century Link products ( TV, Internet, Phone service ) at some great prices, I was just wondering if anyone else heard of this situation? I was also wondering if they are trying to get a lock in the Villages. They also told me they would lock in my prices for 5 years, "Sounds to good to be true".

I would be leery of anyone selling anything at my front door! The scam artists are everywhere. And, soliciting is prohibited in The Villages, so I would be surprised if it was legitimately Century Link. They should know better.

They were in are neighborhood a few weeks ago .Had auto with Company logo. They knew exactly what century link products we used. And asked if we were happy with what we had and wanted to know if we would switch tv service to them for a special rate.So I was a little surprised to see him at door but guess they do this.

i don't mind a phone call but to knock on my door...i don't think so

Call Village Watch while they are still on your block. We don't need this kind of intrusion here.

I'd ask for their ID and call Century link to see if "so n so" was an employee of theirs. Just doesn't sound right to me.

Had a lady knock on my door. I did not ask for ID but, she seemed to know a lot about Century link Products. I ask about the 5 year price lock. She said it was for phone and internet only. When we were looking for service in Jan. they were very costly compared to Comcast and Brighthouse. I think Brighthouse might be "eating their lunch" and they are trying to get customers.:mornincoffee:

I have never had so many "salesmen" knock on my front door in a lifetime of living up North as I have had in one month in TV. When or does it ever stop?

mrdills 07-26-2012 10:19 AM

Century Link

Just comparing their Internet speeds to Comcast, they tell me its 10 Megs their upload speed is only .768 to Comcast 4.7 Meg, and their download speed is 10 Meg to Comcast 24 Megs. That is quite a difference in speed. The price is the same. They did tell me I could buy their 25 Meg system for 25.00 more a month. I'm still looking into their TV and Phone service.

We locked for five years no contract on phone internet and their Prism TV . I was going with Direct TV however they allowed us to experience the performance of their Black Fiber HD Picture. If we don't like Prism we can go back to Direct no fee.

I did not want Comcast! This seemed the best package for us as there is no Fios available or Bright in our area. Prism Claims their 10 meg is on a single line/signal for each home. This makes it perform better no bog downs? I am not sure of this and would like feedback from those on Century Link.

I just returned a Mi-Fi is was working terrible here near 466a. My 3G cell hot spot is faster? Go figure. This whole Village TV and internet seems to be a hot topic.

Finallyfree 07-26-2012 04:05 PM

Brighthouse is great, however they only service south of 466-A. We have them and the picture and customer service is unbelievable. We have not had any issues with our Internet and it is twice the speed of the other providers. Good luck.

John_W 07-26-2012 04:14 PM

I have Century Link 10.0 speed 'to the curb' in Tamarind Grove (that's their lingo for having no modem). I just did a download test and it was 10.15, I've never had one come up less than 10.0.

I have Century Link for internet and home phone (unlimited long distance, caller ID and call block) since July last year and the total for both $59.99, with tax about $74. We use Directv and had no problems with them either, I just signed up for NFL Sunday Ticket this coming season, which only Directv has. This year it's down to $199 if you can live without the 'Red Zone' channel.

cquick 07-26-2012 05:15 PM

yes, I thought the century link was expensive. But it's so hard to compare cable companies because of all the "extras" they add on....sure the basic sounds inexpensive, but just try to add on extra DVD players, or HD TV players or movie channels, etc.

OH, MY, while I was typing, a Century Link salesperson just rang my doorbell!
I told her no.

We had tried them at our old house in Summerhill, but I didn't like them and then when I tried to get out of the contract, they wanted to charge me several hundred dollars in charges. I refused. Finally I got out of the contract!

Buyer Beware!

John what was your up load speed? you mention your download was 10.5. Another question, I thought Century Link was hooked up to Direct TV but they didn't mention that in their presentation.

CarGuys 07-27-2012 12:00 AM

Glad to hear what you bought is what you are getting for speed. I must be near you? I'm in Tamarind Grove-

The big difference is that centurylink is fiberoptic (think fios).

Yes but only to the newer sections in TV.

I just did another test this Friday morning. Download was 10.30 and upload was 0.76 ping 65 ms.

I signed up with them in person at their office on 441 in front of Target July of last year they mentioned that they were connected with Directv, however after they brought out Prism TV that kind of went off the radar. I believe they initially said I would get $5 a month off my Directv bill and within a year they would be able to combine their bill with my Directv bill, that hasn't happend and I've never pursued the $5 discount.

Carguys we're in Southern Star Villas, which is across St. Charles on the opposite end of Tamarind Grove Blvd. Near the Southern Star course and Sterling Heights rec center.

buzzy 07-27-2012 08:55 AM

I asked this question on another thread, but did not get a reply there. How do you determine whether or not you have fiber optic phone cabling? We are in Pennecamp, the neighborhood is 2-3 yrs old.

mulligan 07-27-2012 09:45 AM

Not 100% foolproof, but if the cable into the house is round, it's probably copper coax. If it's flat, it's probably fiberoptic. The fiber cable may also have printing on the outside indicating glass fiber.
