You are correct. That is the covenant. However, enforcement is hampered due to an issue of jurisdiction. The streets belong to the county and the county will only issue tickets if the vehicle parked on the street is interfering with the safe flow of traffic.

If he is dripping oil, they can make him move it to the driveway beause the oil will ruin the road. They made one of the cars in our village that was always parking on the street move it to the driveway because of that.

I have heard that it could depend on which Deputy Sheriff comes to your house. Obviously, it becomes a judgment call on the "oil situation" or if the car parked in the street is impeding traffic. If cars are having to dodge the car etc., it might be worth a second Deputy opinion if you don't get some action from the first call. By the way, have you approach the neighbor in a diplomatic way to try and resolve this issue? I would try that first.

Perhaps your new neighbor has not read the covenants. Make a copy of the covenant and put it on his windshield. If he is a good neighbor, he/she will get the hint. If not? Well, that's a whole other thread:MOJE_whot:

I am not diplomatic....The issue is why park in the street when you have plenty of room to be a good and respectful neighbor in the driveway...Plus you signed and agreed to any and all restrictions in the covinence....So stop being a bad neighbor ......If this person was my neighbor we would have a war because I hate people who think a street is for there own personal use...If you think it is perfectly fine to be in everyones way then I think it is perfectly fine for my dog to poop within the first foot of your front yard , afterall that part of your yard don't belong to you anyway...Get the point !Just because you are old doesn't meen you can be rude !

This person is not being rude for parking on a public street...you may not like it but that another issue. If you call Village watch they will very clearly tell you they have no enforcement authority to make a car, that is legally licensed, move from a public street unless there is a safety issue involved.

Actually it is against the law to park on a public street in Sumter County. Whether a Deputy chooses to enforce that law or now is (I guess) their call. If you are not happy with their decision, you can escalate it through the Sumter County Sheriffs Department chain of command (Sgt, LT, etc.).

The actual law, for those that want to read it, can be found in the Sumter County, Florida Code of Ordinances, Chapter 17 (Motor Vehicles And Traffic), Article II (Stopping, Standing And Parking), Division 1 (Sumter County Parking Ordinance), Section O-29 (Stopping, Standing Or Parking).

The short version - no on-street parking in unincorporated areas of Sumter County unless specifically authorized. Lots of short term exceptions noted (i.e. loading/unloading, meter reader, yard workers, etc.)

Get real.....County Deputies would only enforce a parking violation on public streets in residential areas if such parking impeded public safety. Calling someone ignorant or arrogant for legally parking a licensed car on a public street is rather harsh. Rather than throwing stones, call the authorities (Village Watch, County Deputies) or anyone you think would take your side to remove the vehicle or cite the owner for a violation. Unfortunately you will find deaf ears and be out of luck.

Oh and BTW, we have a street parker in our immediate neighborhood, dont like it, but not much you can do.

I will never understand why someone would move to tv and then want to change the rules to suit themselves. The rules are one of the reasons most of us moved here. Glad that piece of junk isnt in front of my house.

If everyone wants to have Sumter start enforcing this--then you better have enough driveway space when you have a party because this also means your guests cannot park their cars or golf carts in front of your house:shocked:

Like Bryan said, there are lots of short-term exceptions. Parking in the street for your party guests for a few hours would certainly be an exception. Do not get ridiculous with your comments and just apply some common sense.

Yes,You can park on the street. No,You will not receive a ticket.It is a public street,you can park every day of the year. I have been parking in the street here for years. I drive every day,so the car is being moved. Plenty of room for police and fire to drive around.Never could understand that golf carts and dog walkers had to walk around my cars was such a big deal. Just complainers.

A bit rude don't ya think?Are you the posting police? "Common sense" would say that if the law says no street parking in unincorporated areas of Sumter County, then the law applies to all equally. My intent here is to say that if people want to have enforcement, then they need to accept that it would be enforced for all non-exception situations-and party parking is not one of the legal exceptions.

I just wonder why we have the covenants/restrictions in TV anyway. It appears in all these threads that people come here and do what they want anyway. From what I am hearing in many of these the covenants are not or will not be enforced. When they DO get enforced, than they get "disappointed" on why they can't do what they want. After all, they could where they lived before and they say "what is it hurting anyway" lol

Right - "Those rules don't apply to "ME"!" Here is advice that has been offered before - there are many nice places around the Orlando area, possibly with fewer restrictions - why not move there and let the people who want to follow the rules in peace at TV?

Actually,this is Not true. Homes in the villages are part of Sumter county and You will not get a ticket for parking in the street.Never had police or community watch stop and chat about parking. Doing this for years.

What it seems to boil down to, is respect to our neighbors, and using good judgment. In our neighborhood, we have a policy, of using neighbors driveway, when they are gone. (if you have more then one car). We like the idea, because it looks like someone is there. We have neighbors who park in street every day (and night) and nothing is ever said. It certainly doesn't bother me, or others for that matter. "We are family" To each it's own!! Have a nice day!!!
