There was a post from the Moderator informing us that "Political" has been suspended.

Guess we didn't play nice enough. It was getting a little acrimonious and personal.

I knew this would happen.

Now we are just going to have to pick on you!

If it is suspended I predict that the average blood pressure of TOTV political members will drop dramatically.:rant-rave:

DaleMN: There was no greater acrimonious or personal attack then that committed by either the Republican or Democratic party, the press, the blogs the Hollywood power brokers and the commercials.

So if you are correct as to this being the reason for suspension I guess then we should all write our favorite politicians and tell them if we can't complain then you can't complain and we suggest you suspend your campaigns.
Because obviously the suspension irrespective of cause allows a cooling off period.

Personally anyone who can't or couldn't handle the political forum ought to stay away from it. In fact that ought to stay away from any manner of politics. I would suggest as an alternative some Bocelli for these tender minds.

I will miss the daily mental exercise. I hope that the moderator will at least tell why is was suspended and if it is permanent.

I did not see anything that was over the top to cause this.

One less place to keep the country free!

As mentioned in a recent thread/reply, TOTV is a privately owned site.

Well then I guess s/he can do anything s/he wants to it is his/her game.

I was always taught to never discuss politics or religion. Seriously. Still never do. Kept me out of a lot of trouble.

Of course I've found lots of other ways to put my foot in my mouth!

Yes he/she has the freedom to do that. As well as the freedom to operate a site like this.

If you can't take a few licks, maybe you should stay out of the ring. I do not visit that forum but it appears to be ruff and tumble and for mature people.

I can live without the Political Forum on TOTV. Will miss the humor, passion, and other stuff.

Political discussions (particularly forums) regardless of which side of the fence you sit upon, consist of people either preaching to the choir or preaching to a brick wall.

Because these conversations quickly erode into acrimony, there is little opportunity for an exchange of ideas.

Political Forums Rarely Spawn Converts.

Very true Indy! As I have said before, it is entertainment, nothing more.

I like the posting of links to relevant articles on other websites, so that people can go and read from the source articles and then decide for themselves. I've read many convincing articles from both sides of an argument this way.

Here on political (now suspended), I would think that the offenders could be kicked off the board instead of closing the entire political forum.

Removing the political forum was the WRONG thing to do. We as mature adults and FREE AMERICANS (or NOT??) should always be allowed to express our opinions especially in a year as critical as this one!! Will make TOTV much less appealing now as one gets tired of talking whats cooking in the kitchen all the time. Very disappointed and I think a bad decision was made.

ilovetv: Nope we all got spanked. One poster wrote good riddance. Well I could say the same thing about a forum that discussed knitting but instead I say "to each is own" and skip over that forum. Another wrote something like it was "preaching to the choir and/or a brick wall...." I like preachers and I like brick walls:D.

No mental stimulation anymore. Geez, what's the point of coming on??

there is no expectation of freedom on a privately owned forum.

i so agree with you. the posters who were good enough to post links to articles was a heplful shortcut to my having to search thru hundreds of links in google! having such a variety of viewpoints helped me understand a great deal about the issues and how they impacted real people. unfortunately the acrimony began to far outweigh the learning experience...so it is back to google for me and a nitely prayer that political will return - especially in light of this weekend's upcoming activity there - i'd so prefer to hear about it from someone who was there rather than a reporter! :pray:

I'm not so sure about that - why invite people to post ideas and opinions and when in your opinion it's getting to hot in the kitchen just shut it down. Should let the market dictate what happens - if enough folks get fed up they will stop coming and it looses its appeal. Have never even been on the political forum, but I am disturbed that someone can just shut it down when they desire.:confused:

I agree the offenders should be "suspended" until "further notice".

If it was because of complaints to the administration, my reaction would be if the party opted in....nuff said.

I still propose the administration follow Spocks advice:

The good of the many (most political forum members) far outweigh the few or the one. Owning it in fact does give them right but does not make or mean it is right!!

Too bad because even with the annoyances that come with any political forum, most of us enjoyed and learned a lot from each other.

let the market dictate it then, you are right. If everyone who posted on the political forum stopped using totv that would eliminate about 90% of the posts, since most of the people there account for the majority of the posts overall, never happen.

This forum is owned by an individual, NOT The Villages...A week or so ago I was shocked to hear someone think that this forum was connected to THE DEVELOPER.

The person who owned the forum before became quite quick at booting folks off and shutting down threads.I didn't agree with him much. The new one, Ken has been more patient. I wonder what happened....but it is HIS to do with in anyway he sees fit.

I am so glad we have it and would be quite down if we lost it. It is a wonderful opportunity to communicate with each other. And was a HUGE help to us in our decision making before we came on our lifestyle visit.

I hope he will warn us if we are behaving in such a way we might get banned.

Gracie, here is the policy that the admin posted yesterday. It is only directed at political posts, and they do issue a warning. Like others have said, this was probably prompted by, and aimed at a few individuals who kept disregarding the policies, so I hope you won't get too worked up over it.

Effective immediately and until further notice the political forums will be suspended.

NO political posts are allowed in any of the forums. First offense an account infraction and warning. Second offense account will be banned.

Right Gracie. Just speaking for myself, Ken and Moderators are doing a great job. A job I would not want.

Religion and Politics. Two things we were taught in years past to never discuss among friends. Some people can become beyond "reasonable" when discussing these subjects. In our retirement years, you would think we would be more mature. Nah!
