Did you love Creamsicles?

So when the ice cream truck came around when you were a kid, was the Creamcycle your favorite? Well have I got news for you! Friendly's makes a type of ice cream called "Fruit Swirls" and one flavor is Orange Cream. It's Creamcycle! And it's on sale now at Sweetbay (at least thru Tuesday). Enjoy! And serve it with a little chocolate something for a real treat! And Sue told me to tell you it's realtively low fat. :icon_wink:

bandsdavis - we get a creamsicle cup/cone at ambrosia's in lsl - and don't hafta have the whole half gallon in the freezer to tempt us into more! :)

bandsdavis 08-20-2012 08:17 PM

Oh, but the ongoing temptation is what it's all about! Besides, I can resist anything but temptation!

asianthree 08-20-2012 08:22 PM

nope just vanilla

ugotme 08-20-2012 09:16 PM

FYI - Arby's has a shake called something like "orange cream shake." (Can't remember exact name) Tastes like a creamsicle.

Not a villager yet so I don't know if there is an Arby's up there.

But - loved them as a kid and still love them today.

Ecuadog 08-20-2012 09:34 PM

When I crave that creamsicle flavor, I drink a bottle of Stewart's Diet Orange 'n Cream soda.

kb8tpw 08-21-2012 04:39 AM

I like Stewarts too, but am too cheap to buy very often. For all of you fellow diabetics you can get their orange creamsicle in sugar free at Dairy Queen. My favorite reason to travel is to stop at DQ. Shame on you early villagers for not supporting the local DQ, it went out of business just as we arrived.

jblum315 08-21-2012 05:12 AM

FYI, it's Creamsicle, not Creamcycle. And no I don't care for the orange vanilla combinaion.

mfp509 08-21-2012 05:43 AM

I love Creamsicles - I'll check out Sweetbay. I just wish they sold it in quarts.

Went to Dairy Queen once and saw roaches on the walls and the place was dirty. The kids behind the counter were more concerned with having fun than taking care of customers. Never went back. I think the manager killed the place.

I liked creamsicles and Horlick's malted milk tablets and real malts....they haven't ever been as good as when I was a teen. I loved hamburgers and fries served by a car hop and we drank something at Friday night football games called bullshot...which was hot bullion and tomato juice.

EdV 08-21-2012 10:34 AM

Every once in a while my mother would give me a nickel to by something from the ice-cream truck. But the creamsicles were 15 cents so I always had to settle for a popsicle instead.

I grew up so poor I couldn’t afford to pay attention.

2BNTV 08-21-2012 11:06 AM

I never really cared for the orange creamsicle. Something about the taste didn't agree with me.

One of the few things I don't like.

Sorry!

kb8tpw 08-21-2012 11:12 AM

Too bad, survival of the fitest!!

This sounds like a great Creamsicle only with vodka! It also says to try it with ice cream. mmmm

Creamsicle Cocktail Recipe:

1.Pour 1-1.5 ounces of vodka, into a glass or cocktail shaker filled with ice.
If you have a standard shot glass, 1.5 ounces is almost to the rim, so 2/3 full would be about a 2 ounce.

2.Pour 1 ounce of triple-sec into the glass.
This is a sweet orange liqueur that acts as both a sweetener and an orange flavor with a kick.

3.Pour about 3-5 ounces of orange juice.
This is the body of your drink, so add however much you think you need.

4.Pour 1-2 ounce of creamer.
This is to help give the drink that creamy thick texture so help simulate the ice cream.

5.Stir the cocktail and serve.
Usually it doesn’t matter whether you shake or stir, but anytime there’s cream or a milk product involved, I prefer stirring to help prevent those dairy bubbles.

Creamsicle Cocktail Ingredients:
•Vanilla Vodka (I recommend Cupcake’s Frosting Vodka for this)
•Triple-Sec
•orange juice
•creamer
•ice
•highball glass

Go the extra mile
•I like to add a splash of soda water to give a little fizz to it.
•Instead of creamer, try adding real vanilla ice cream for a some real ice cream flavor.
•Throw your mixture in the blender for a Creamsicle freeze.
•If you add only 2 ounces of orange juice, sift the ice and serve in a martini glass.

So that’s how you make a Creamsicle cocktail. I hope you take the time to make one of these because they really are delicious and such a treat to have on those hot days.

stuckinparadise 08-21-2012 11:59 AM

I can't wait to try your recipe for the Creamsicle cocktail. It sounds delicious!

Patty55 08-21-2012 02:15 PM

Back in the day I drank some Harvey Wallbangers, vodka, OJ and Galliano. Tasted like a creamsickle, adding cream might make it even better.

Now you all got me started.

wendyquat 08-21-2012 03:46 PM

I believe in Georgia they were called Dreamcicles! They were a dream!

Easy Creamsicle cocktail

Whipped cream vodka and Cpt Morgan in Sunkist orange soda over ice. Delish!

mfp509 08-22-2012 08:32 AM

Thank you bandsdavis - I thought about this all day and last night went to Sweetbay and bought some. It is wonderful!! Now I just have to discipline myself and not go overboard.

Penguin 08-22-2012 09:27 AM

I remember them as being called Dreamsicles. Maybe it was a Chicago thing or I dont remember as good as I thought.

FoPAA 08-22-2012 01:12 PM

Mr. FoPAA and I have a little dish of Friendly's Orange Cream every night. Bandsdavis, if there's a shortage I'm blaming YOU!!! :grumpy:

Thankfully, I don't remember ice cream trucks coming around very much when I was a kid. There might have been a few times, I'm not sure. But my family wasn't into non-healthy impulse buying anyway.

Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to stay as far away from it as I can.

Low in fat but high in sugar. I'm sorry to say It's very unhealthy and nothing good will come of it.
