Great Musical Lines?
Just drove up the east Coast listening to my IPhone music for a good deal of the time.
Occupying my mind were some of the best lines in songs ever written: - "I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die" Folsom Prison Bues - Johnny Cash - "We are all prisoners of our own devices" Hotel California - The Eagles - ”Cause I know I'm going nowhere, and anywhere's a better place to be. Anywhere's a better place to be.” Better Place to Be - Harry Chapin - "I'm getting paid by the hour and older by the minute" 5 O'clock Somewhere - Alan Jackson "They sit at the bar and put bread in my jar, and 'man what are you doin here?' - Piano Man - Billy Joel Got any to add? |
And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make -- The Beatles
There's a rhyme and reason to the wild outdoors When the heart of this star-crossed voyager beats in time with yours -- Elton John If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself And make a change. -- Michael Jackson |

"Maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew ya It’s not a cry you can hear at night It’s not somebody who has seen the light It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah" ,,,,Hallelujah - Leonard Cohen |
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup, they slither while they pass they slip away across the universe.
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind possessing and caressing me. Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box, they tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe. Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns, it calls me on and on across the universe. Was she told when she was young that pain would lead to pleasure? Your day breaks, your mind aches You find that all the words of kindness linger on When she no longer needs you She wakes up, she makes up She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry She no longer needs you You want her, you need her And yet you don't believe her when she said her love is dead You think she needs you You stay home, she goes out She says that long ago she knew someone but now he's gone She doesn't need him Your day breaks, your mind aches There will be time when all the things she said will fil your head You won't forget her And in her eyes you see nothing No sign of love behind the tears Cried for no one A love that should have lasted years! And so it's true, pride comes before a fall I'm telling you so that you won't lose all When I cannot sing my heart I can only speak my mind |
Get born, keep born, short pants romance, learn to dance get dressed, get blessed in time to be a success - don't wanna be a bum you better chew gum the pump don't work cause the vandals took the handle. Subterranean Homesick Blues, the incomparable Bobby Zimmerman (Dylan)

I hope you dance
Lee Ann Womack
"I Hope You Dance" I hope you never lose your sense of wonder, You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger, May you never take one single breath for granted, GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed, I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean, Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens, Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance, Never settle for the path of least resistance Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin', Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin', Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter, When you come close to sellin' out reconsider, Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance, And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. I hope you dance....I hope you dance. (Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along, Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.) |

Desiderata
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. |
And from the mind of the man who wrote about the 60's teenage experience better than just about anyone else, Brian Wilson:
There's a world where I can go And tell my secrets to In my room In my room In this world I lock out All my worries and my fears In my room In my room Do my dreaming and my scheming lie awake and pray Do my crying and my sighing laugh at yesterday Now it's dark and I'm alone But I won't be afraid In my room In my room |
Brian Wilson's father was abusive. In his room was the place he went to get away from him. I feel it was more than just drugs that played with Brian's head. I'm sure his father had a lot to do his his fragile mind. So sad.

"All lies and jests, still a man hears what he wants to hear

I've been cursed by dreams crawling out of my head
So black and pure and gleeming - laughing from the devil that's within Then there's you Who can rationalize her feelings any time It's something I find appealing Like your lips as they form the word - "No." I wrote that...good tune as well |
she takes just like a woman
she wakes just like a woman she aches just like a woman but she breaks just like a little girl.....Dylan The leader of the band is tired And his eyes are growing old But his blood runs through my instrument And his song is in my soul My life has been a poor attempt To imitate the man I'm just a living legacy To the leader of the band....Dan Foegelberg Sometimes it's like someone took a knife baby edgy and dull and cut a six inch valley through the middle of my soul At night I wake up with the sheets soaking wet and a freight train running through the middle of my head - only you can cool my desire oooh I'm on fire...... PHONY’S
Don’t claim that your brave, when your full of fear Don’t act like a worrywart, if you really don’t care Don’t pretend to enjoy a crowded atmosphere And go in the corner and play solitaire Don’t put on a laugh, when inside your cryin’ Don’t make a statement, you might later be denying Don’t say it’s your best, when you’re not trying Don’t purr like a cat and roar like a lion You’ve gotta be yourself, don’t be a phony Don’t be led around, like a small pony If you’re yourself, you’ll be honest and true Than people will respect you in whatever you do Don’t go twisting the truth with self-made lies Don’t start making excuses and crazy alibis Don’t put on a mask and wear a disguise Don’t walk in the shoes that aren’t your size Don’t be a sore loser, if you don’t always win Before you can finish, you have to begin You must be confident before you jump in Don’t go overboard, if you can’t swim There are things you can do, things that you can’t Don’t get the feeling, that your superman Just be who you are, that’s no great a task And they’ll be nothing impossible people will ask Tom Hannon 1969 |

I Hope You Dance is my son and my song. When he went into the Navy I gave him the CD and we danced to it at his wedding last March. I love the song.

My musician friends said my writing was a cross between Bob Dylan and John Lennon. Unfortunately, I didn't go anywhere with my song writing but did manage to have a collection of short stories published. I am working on a novel soon and I hope to have that published. |
My house
Is a very, very very nice house Crosby, Stills and etc. |
Allan Clarke's finest lyrics -
Saturday night I was downtown Working for the FBI Sitting in a nest of bad men Whisky bottles piling high Bootlegging boozer on the west side Full of people who are doing wrong Just about to call up the DA man When I heard this woman singing a song A pair of 45's made me open my eyes My temperature started to rise She was a long cool woman in a black dress Just a 5'9, beautiful tall With just one look I was a bad mess 'Cos that long cool woman had it all I saw her headin' to the table With a tall walking big black cat Well Charlie said I hope that you're able boy 'COS I'm telling you she knows where it's at When suddenly we heard the sirens And everybody started to run Jumpin out of doors under tables When I heard somebody shooting a gun Well the DA was pumping my left hand And then she was a-holding my right Well I told her don't get scared 'Cos you're gonna be spared Well I've gotta be forgiven If I wanna spend my living With a long cool woman in a black dress Just a 5'9 beautiful tall Well, with just one look I was a bad mess 'Cos that long cool woman had it all |
From the gutter to you, Babe, ain't up.

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
You been out ridin' fences for so long now Oh, you're a hard one I know that you got your reasons These things that are pleasin' you Can hurt you somehow Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy She'll beat you if she's able You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet Now it seems to me, some fine things Have been laid upon your table But you only want the ones that you can't get Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin' Your prison is walking through this world all alone Don't your feet get cold in the winter time? The sky won't snow and the sun won't shine It's hard to tell the night time from the day You're losin' all your highs and lows Ain't it funny how the feeling goes away? Desperado, why don't you come to your senses? Come down from your fences, open the gate It may be rainin', but there's a rainbow above you You better let somebody love you, before it's too late |
ONce upon a time you dressed so fine
ya gave the bums a dime in your prime Didn't you? You went to the finest school Miss Lonely But you only got juiced in it. Nobody tought you to live on the streets but you gotta get used to it! Now you don't talk so loud Now you don't act so proud About.. Scrounging for your next meal How does it feel..... How does it feel.... to be all alone..... with no direction home..... like a complete unknown Like a Rolling Stone..... |
Oh! England, my Lionheart,
I'm in your garden, fading fast in your arms. The soldiers soften, the war is over. The air raid shelters are blooming clover. Flapping umbrellas fill the lanes-- My London Bridge in rain again. Oh! England, my Lionheart! Peter Pan steals the kids in Kensington Park. You read me Shakespeare on the rolling Thames-- That old river poet that never, ever ends. Our thumping hearts hold the ravens in, And keep the tower from tumbling. Oh! England, my Lionheart, Oh! England, my Lionheart, Oh! England, my Lionheart, I don't want to go. Oh! England, my Lionheart! Dropped from my black Spitfire to my funeral barge. Give me one kiss in apple-blossom. Give me one wish, and I'd be wassailing In the orchard, my English rose, Or with my shepherd, who'll bring me home. Oh! England, my Lionheart, Oh! England, my Lionheart, Oh! England, my Lionheart, Oh! England, my Lionheart, Oh! England, my Lionheart, I don't want to go. |
"Kathy," I said as we boarded a Greyhound in Pittsburgh,
"Michigan seems like a dream to me now." It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw I've gone to look for America |
Tom Lehrer in Vatican Rag:
Get in line in that processional step into that small confessional there the guy who's got religion'll tell you if your sin's original if it is try playin it safer drink the wine and chew the wafer two four six eight time to transubstantiate.... poisoning pidgeons in the Park: We gained noteriety and cause much anxietey in the Audobon Society with our games they called it inpiety and lack of propriety and quite a variety of unpleasant names but it's not against any religion to want to dispose of a pidgeon Those are both from memory to prove what a geek I am |
I don't want to spoil the party so I'll go
I would hate my disappointment to show There's nothing for me here So I will disappear If she turns up while I'm gone, please let me know I've had a drink or two and I don't care There's no fun in what I do if she's not there I wonder what went wrong I've waited far too long I think I'll take a walk and look for her |
Woman, I can hardly express
My mixed emotions and my thoughtlessness After all, I'm forever in your debt And woman, I will try to express my inner feelings and thankfulness For showing me the meaning of success Ooh, well, doo doo doo doo doo. Ooh, well, well, doo doo doo doo doo Woman, I know you understand the little child inside a man Please remember, my life is in your hands, and woman Hold me close to your heart, however distant don't keep us apart After all it is written in the stars Ooh, well Woman, please let me explain I never meant to cause you sorrow or pain So let me tell you again and again and again I love you, yeah, yeah, yeah, now and forever I love you, yeah, yeah, yeah, now and forever |
