Another Phone Scam
Second time they've called...persistant buggers...
Caller ID reads Ulti Readers Service (Ultimate Readers Service). They claim you are a finalist in a contest you never entered. And then try to sell you stuff.... Please beware..I checked into them online and there are many reports of them running this scam and taking money. Phone number 310-543-4380 is what comes up as well. Don't answer or just hang up. Just wanted to pass on the info. |
Personally, if I don't recognize a number or the name doesn't come up on my phone I NEVER answer it. That's why I have voice-mail.
Just saying. |
Latest one hitting my cell phone is one for a security system. It starts out something like "your local police". I think I have had 4 or 5 in the last 2 weeks and they all went to voice mail.

Report them to the 'do not call police'. There is supposed to be a $10,000. fine per call, IIRC.
Any time I've reported a number I've not heard from them again. |
computer Phone scam
Have had two calls now from MICRO TECH SUPPORT who claim to service windows. When they call the phone is displayed as Unavailable. Twice they have tried to have me give them my pass word so they can go into all my files and check them out as I show up as having problems and they said my computer will crash in a few days if I do not comply. Company phone:1-800-31-8572 Mr. Travis Pedro The last time they called my husband said we were contacting the Better Business Bureau. Thy hung up the phone.
JUST A WARNING Don,t trust anyone J. |
Its funny how many calls come in down here...we don't answer either..i just research who they are when the number turns up that I don't know :) Just seeing so many crimes against seniors they should start a permanent thread on here for companies and phone numbers to help protect folks in the villages.

One would thing that with all the complaints that have been filed that either the FTC or FCC would do something about it but they have not. I am sure that we here on TOTV are not the only ones that have filed complaints. Also try and get the information at to the true location (Orlando FL) of the company originating the calls. The numbers are routed through a large number of routing services so it is next to impossible to trace to the actual location. VG |
Just had 2 in one day. Love to play with these guys.Ask them what college they went to for their education. One said,Stanford, and I said you are doing telephone calls what a waste of education,he was so mad he hung up on me.
|
Got a call like that, too. The phone number was 702-241-9901. The caller told me I won a $1000 worth of Walmart gift certificate in a raffle and he was asking for my personal information so he could put it in their database. But I knew better. As much as it would be nice to get that giftcard, it was suspicious so I hung up.
|
And I was not mistaken. I Googled the phone number and found it reported several times for scam at Callercenter. Apparently, this scammer's been making the rounds already.
I wonder, is it just me or is the law not feared anymore? |
i am getting you have won a trip on my cell, no phone is safe from this crap
|
Stay away from area code 206. That area code orginates from Seattle, Washington and it was in the newspaper the other day saying it was a scam. I got a call twice from that area code.

Sign up with the National Do Not Call Registry. We did and it has cut down tremendously on unwanted nuisance calls. Now, if only the blastingly LOUD once a day calls telling us we've won a home burglar alarm system would stop calling..........its a recording, thus we cannot tell the caller to stop. However, the National Do Not Call Registry does solve the problem for several years; then you have to register again, which we just did. If they persist in calling, tell them it's a big fine to do so........that usually works..........if it is a HUMAN on the other end. p.s. Although it says it does not expire.......ours apparently DID do so after about three years.........so we just signed up again and it has tapered down a lot. Not sure, but guess it takes awhile for these rotary dialers to "get the message". Good luck everyone. Those calls are annoying, to say the least. |
Similarly, I have found that our amex bill has charges for "legal forms" or other purchases that repeat monthly but are a low $4.95 or $9.95 which they figure no one will catch. It is tedious to have to continually check to see if we have any bogus charges but it is really prudent to do so. There are just so many scammers looking for business.

I have had American Express and VISA call me twice in the recent past few years, both about very minute tiny charges (as you mention above) which they deemed to be suspicious. I never heard of the companies they mentioned over the phone.........so they cancelled the number and instantly gave me a new number/the new card was Fedexed to me overnight. Scary but they are "out there"....the scammers. Of course, I was suspicious that the person/s calling me (saying they were from American Express and VISA) were not really who they said they were, but in the end I had to trust them and they were indeed legit. But, I'm not fond of having new card numbers when I had memorized my old numbers. |
When we first moved here, our Visa card had been compromised. Thankfully that isn't the one I have memorized :) Whenever I have had a call from a cc company, I always say I will call you back so I can call AMX/Visa and check or I ask them to give me the info that they are always asking for when I call.
Normally, the cc companies catch the fraudulent charges but with the "legal forms" there was a repeat for over seven months and I caught it because I finally asked my husband..grrr. They can be sneaky. |
my greatest joy is that our landline is only for our fax machine, all of those annoying calls are met with an annoying fax tone!

I constantly am gettng telephone calls from a man with an accent who uses many different storys, but the plot is always the same. Seems I have money waiting at the UPS Post Office, Fed Ex office, etc, and he is manager who will send someone out to my house with the money, but first I must give him a credit card number...How stupid can they think we are??? I'm getting so tired of these repeated calls.. The scam bunch must not keep very good records. I've tried hanging up on them, pretending i'm recording them on advice of the sheriff's office (to which this "manager" replied F*** you and hung Up.) I thought this had solved the problem, but suddenly i'm getting the calls again. Today i told him the person he was calling had died. He hung up without a word of condolence. Imagine that!
