Two Questions....!!??

Was out and about earlier today....would anyone know why the flags are at 1/2 mast over by the high school? Also, what is going on with all the earth moving equipment by the high school? It looks like a serious project that's taking place. Haven't seen anything in the paper about either of these.

The flags were 1/2 mast for Neil Armstrong's funeral.

mulligan 08-31-2012 06:10 PM

you only get 1 question

NotGolfer 08-31-2012 09:38 PM

Well...only one question answered so looking for info on the 2nd one. What's going in next to the high school complex?? It's very large and looks to be a serious "build". They haven't taken down the fence that surrounds it neither.

mulligan 09-01-2012 05:00 AM

I saw that job. That's a lot of dirt!! If I had to guess, I'd say it's some sort of drainage improvement project. There's a lot of concrete drainage structures sitting out there.

graciegirl 09-01-2012 06:17 AM

We saw the construction happening on the Charter School Campus and guessed it was another school. We are growing and so is the community of people working for The Villages and their kids have the right to attend the fine Charter schools here. So, maybe another elementary school?

paulandjean 09-01-2012 06:24 AM

Wish all kids would have the right to attend a fine private school like that.

Yes, you are correct. But......have you toured that public charter school? Have you talked to parents whose children go to that school? It is the best of the best.

paulandjean 09-01-2012 07:20 AM

Actually,Its a private school.

In this country MANY kids whose parents work as hard as those who work for The Villages do have that right. Good hard working parents foster great schools. It is not just luck or happenstance. I know that many people choose to work here in part for the great schools and so many parents are involved actively in the Charter schools programs as well as many seniors from our villages volunteer in the schools too. Great recipe for success!

I am so proud of our Charter schools.

pooh 09-01-2012 07:39 AM

I, too, am proud of our charter schools, and in actuality, they are public schools, p&j, sometimes called schools of choice. It's always amazing to me that here, in a community of retirees, we have schools, I LOVE IT!

Since I've veered off topic, I want to remember Neil Armstrong with a big smile. His famous walk on the moon is something I'll never forget. RIP Neil.

Not sure if you understand. Not school of choice,if they where anyone would be able to attend.Charter schools are open to all that apply, here it is not. A student who lives in walking distance, lets say,466 and 301 may not attend.Sad difference between Wildwood and village schools and yet so close, but miles apart.

Um... well, many public schools with open enrollment are successful because parents and grandparents are involved and work hard to make them better. Many people will plan their lives to be able to move to an area with good schools for their kids. They work hard and save to provide those opportunities.

This whole issue is one of my passions too.

I think we may be moving close to um....issues that start with a P.

If you wish to pick a nit, you can call it private, but do remember, with any public school, there are boundary limits.....kids from one city cannot attend public school in another city. Charter schools

Maybe if this discussion is to continue, we should start another thread since we are now discussion something totally unrelated to the original question.

Cedwards38 09-01-2012 08:06 AM

Indeed...........some of the best schools in the country are public schools! :-)

Not sure if you have your facts straight. Kids can attend schools in other cities. Its happens all the times.Newspapers, tv adds to attract students. Retired school teacher here.

NotGolfer 09-01-2012 08:28 AM

Another...hi-jack!! I didn't know my question was about schools and their quality. But maybe I missed something!

mulligan 09-01-2012 08:35 AM

See what I mean about 1 question??

You are correct paulandjean. Kids can and do attend schools between not only cities but also school boundaries. As a retired teacher also, we had many children attend our school from different towns, cities, school districts, etc.

I asked one of the surveyers this morning and he said it was a school for 4th and 5th graders. The workers are working 12 hour days and are working at least on Saturday. I did not ask about Sunday.

An announcement about the charter school expansions (yes, plural) is at the school's website, The Villages Charter Schools - Central Office -- announcement near the top and a link to a map at the bottom.

Not all true,Tax money at work here also.Remember school receives per student, not sure but probably near $7000 per student.Shame down on 466A Wildwood Junior High closed and Higher grade students had to go to Wildwood High School.Wish they would share more for education in this area. They are so close but miles apart.

We have had our kids in both private schools and public schools. It is up to the parent to decide where to place their child and if they feel education is a priority then they do what they have to to get that education whether it means working for a company that has a quality charter school, or moving to a district that has a great school system, or forgoing vacations or even dinners out. Bravo to TV to build this school to attract smart employees who value education.
