Proud to be from OHIO!
Like many other villagers I am from Ohio. Ohio IS the center of the universe and the place where people still smile at each other, stop at STOP signs, don't save chairs and stop so you can walk in front of them.
Ohio is called the Cradle of Colleges and folks from my family stand and cheer for Ohio State, Miami University, Ohio University, University of Cincinnati, Case Western, Kent State, and University of Toledo. Ohio is known for it's hard working and ethical people, immigrants from Germany and many other lands, it's farms and farmers, it's industry and last but not least it's cultural facilities. Ohio has the number one heart hospital in The U.S., The Cleveland Clinic and a huge and enthusiatic bunch of football fans. If you are from Ohio, stand up and tell us! I am not from Ohio but I have lived here over 30 years (along with a couples of months a year in TV). I am from the dreaded state "up north" but I must say that Ohio is everything that Gracie has said and more, it is a great place to live! I love the drive from the Marion area through Amish country and seeing the Amish folks with their horse drawn buggies and their way of life, I love the drive around the beauty of Columbus and their OSU spirit. But my favorite place is Cincinnati with its bridges, the river, duck boat tours, great resturaunts, etc.

Y'all need to get it right: "Say it with me now..........AHIA!!" :1rotfl:
:icon_wink: Bill  (from Ahia) |
My husband and I were raised in Cincinnati, but I have lived elsewhere all our married life. We love goetta, Graeter's ice cream, Noble Roman's Pizza, Skyline Chili, and all of the neighborhood bakeries! Our favorite was north College hill bakery and we still go there every time we get a chance!
|
I visit long time friends in Waynesville and Wilmington and have cousins in Cincy.
I thought about getting a place there for summer residence (practicing to be a snowbird) since I like the area but this year it was hotter there than Florida. What's a person to do? PS. If Bill can learn to say Y'all, then I can learn to say Ahia. |
Had a good friend from Ohio, Cheryl Z., while I was at the University of Denver who had gone to Ohio State U to study librarianship. She was getting a M.A. in Librarianship and Information Management the same time I was. Then she became a librarian for various libraries on U.S. bases. She did have time to visit me when I worked in the SF Bay Area after I left Denver.
We have a lot of neighbors here in the Villages who hail from Ohio. Very nice people. |
I'm 50 miles away..does that count? I love driving through Dayton because the art museum area looks so cool..also absolutely love Cincinnati. I do have a question however, I just don't get the whole Skyline chili thing. We stopped there once and I'm hoping this wasn't representative of all the Skylines..we thought it was terrible..watered down. Maybe I'll give it another chance on our way down. So there..from your neighbor in the north, I do love Ohio..except for their state police, Skyline chili and college football team.:D (they do have really nice people down there though!)

We are a couple of Buckeye's, born, raised and still here about five months. Hard to give up living on Lake Erie, esp. June through September. Our picture is just a normal summer sunset of our back yard.
|
Lived and worked for the last 15 years in Toledo, a great "small" town with lots of big city amenities including our great minor league baseball team The Toledo Mudhens, a great museum, a top ranked zoo, and many great restaurants like Matthews (sadly, now gone) and Fifi's. However, as many people who live near a great lake know, winter can be prozac season with month after month of gray and dreary weather. But we get through the winters by rooting for the Toledo Rockets and the Bowling Green Falcons.

And Ohio has the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland!
. |
Does living in Cleveland for a year count? I'll stand-up for Ahia.
Pro football's Hall of Fame in Canton. |
NE Ohio is a great place to be from! Don't forget about Youngstown State and Mount Union. Multiple national football championships between them.
|
Born in Cincinnati - love the goetta, skyline, graeters, kahns. Friends bring them to us when they can. We can get the skyline/graeters here. Listen to the Reds/Bengals every game on the internet. Also go to the artimis cameras to check out what is happening at the riverfront. But, The Villages is home now - and we could not have come to a better place.

I just don't get the whole Skyline chili thing. We stopped there once and I'm hoping this wasn't representative of all the Skylines..we thought it was terrible..watered down. Be Still My heart!!!!!! Beside my family, the things I miss most are Skyline, LaRosa Pizzeria, Graeters, :cryin2::cryin2::cryin2:, GOETTA, Trader Joes, apple harvest time and funnel cakes at the festivals. I do not miss the snow and cold. I also miss the Ballet, the great museums, the Cincinnati Pops orchestra, Kings Island and Riverbend. Oh well I have definitelt depressed myself now. Thanks for listening |
I was born in T'leeda, Ahia. Go Mudhens!

Born and raised in Hamilton. Lived in West Chester and Fairfield. Fairfield is still my northern HOME as that is where my family resides, but TV is my southern HOME!!!! I went to Miami University, worked at the University of Cincinnati and Christ Hospital...50years of great memories in southwestern AHIA!!!!!!! |
What a great thread! We lived in Upper Arlington about 3 miles from the Ohio State stadium so we hosted many post game football parties. Kind of miss that. Mr. Jojo is from Ashtabula up on the lake. I worked in the Ohio Department of Education and traveled the state and grew to appreciate the tremendous diversity. Ohio is both very rural and urban. My favorite place is the Hocking Hills in southeastern Ohio. |
I'm not from Ohio, but rather from Central Kentucky. I am, however, a huge Reds fan!!! Does that count? :-)
|
Born and bred in the beautiful state of ohio in a little mayberry town called Alexandria near Granville, Newark, Cols...a place where everyone knows your name....
GO BUCKS!! |
Don't forget one of the main reasons Michiganders go to Ohio....Cedar Point! I just took my grandson there last month.

Became snowbirds
because we missed Columbus and Ohio so much in the summertime. Don't miss the winter. Buying a condo in Worthington, a north Columbus suburb. Love all the stuff there is to do here in the summer. Nights and mornings are still a lot cooler, although this summer in Ohio and the whole midwest has been much hotter than usual.
I just like doing DIFFERENT stuff here (mostly) than we do in TV. Still love both places. |

Ohio is a good place to be "FROM" if you are currently living in TV. Not so good if you are still tied down in Ohio and wanting to move to TV.

Sometimes this place just makes me feel like I am 16.

Spent my first 45 yrs in Dayton Ohio. I miss the fall festivals. Graduated from Patterson Co-op High School and Miami Valley School of Nursing. Go Flyers!
Chris |
Grew up in Sandusky and Findlay. Rode the ferry over to Cedar Point when you could ride all the rides for $3.50 all day- 'course there weren't many rides then! (does that date me?)
Daughter graduated vet school at Ohio State. Son lives in Beavercreek. Numerous relatives in Cincy and Wilmington. So still have ties there! Becky |
What's with the Intersate ???
As a boy in the 50's we traveled from Up-state NY to Akron at least once a year to visit my Grand Parents. Great Memories. As an adult in the early 80's we traveled from Louisiana to Up-state NY going through Ohio once a year to visit my parents. The interstate was so rough I'd have to get my fillings replaced and the front end realigned after each trip. (Expansion joints on the concrete slabs) Please tell me they fixed this:jester:
