Replacement Refs
I don't know about anyone else but I am sick of the replacement refs that don't call holding on the defensive backs. I've seen this on several plays during the Giants game as I'm sure it's happening around the NFL.
It's time for the stupid and greedy owners to realize their product is being damaged and sullied by refs that haven't done an extremely bad job as they don't call holding in college... at least that is the explanation from broadcasters. It's time to bring back the regular refs before any players get hurt by things the refs aren't calling. The owners are acting like they are throwing nickels around like manhole covers. It such a small cost. They talk about being concerned about player safety and the integrity of the game but it's stupid for this to continue and make a mockery of the game as there were several games that were affected last week. Is anyone else disturbed by the amount of holding that isn't being called? Whewwwwwwwww......... I feel better now. |
What about the "phantom" holding call the cost the Patriots a win .Gronkowski made a clean block!

WELL SAID !!!!!!!!!!!!:clap2: |
TRRBLE......The worst call I saw was on the Lions QB. He was DOWN. Got up and went 6 yards further back before the whistle blew. Then in order to get back the 6 yards THE LIONS had to throw the red flag using up a contested call ON THEMSELVES.
You're right 2BNTV. . . the game is LOOSING INTEGRITY! |
Anyone watching the MNF debacle? This is the worst I have seen! The NFL is jeapardizing a multi-billion dollar enterprise, not to mention endangering the Multi-million dollar athletes for comparative peanuts.

I have no problem with the refs. They are replacements, will not be around for long.Takes years in the NFL to get it right.Game here is so much faster than the college game. Seen many good calls also with the replacements.Relax the game is being played. Know many college and pro refs, they have to get use to the speed.

replacement refs
One would think that in a country of well over 300 million pleople we could find enough great refs that would want to work for 160-180k, plus expenses, for the year, just like one would think that we could find 32 great quaterbacks.

Eric Mangini said this morning on Sportscenter that as long as revenue is not affected adversely, the strike will continue as the owners see this as the replacement refs will get better. I hope the owners come to their senses as we are talking about a small amount of money.
As usual, the fans suffer from seeing their teams getting the short end of the stick in this matter. In a perfect world, the fans would not go to the games as a protest and cost the owners money. |

Tickets are bought, commercials are bought, contracts with the networks are signed and sealed, DirecTV subscribers can't cancel w/o loss of $$; the biggest loosers would be the beer vendors. I agree that the replacement refs are bad. I don't know how to solve the problem except to maybe make a Facebook or Twitter project out of it. After all, that got Betty White to host SNL ! |
Thursday Night Football...
Let's hope that the attention during tonight's Thursday Night Football is directed towards the players and not the refs.

Not that bad
The replacement Refs are currently contracted until week 5. I suspect that will get extended. The only way the owners bring back the regular refs is if we all stop watching. And that just ain't gonna happen. To the best of my limited knowledge of the dispute, it is not about salary and all about full time pensions for part time workers and the NFL does not want to set that precedent. It's a great part time job that pays extremely well. I don't know why anyone would want to risk that kind of extra pay. It's not like the refs have a limited window like an NFL running back. Some of these guys have been (part time) refs for 20 years! It seems to me that for some it is never enough and they always want more more more. I think it is shameful on both sides.
FYI, I am a huge PATS fan and can see why the ref threw the flag on the "Phantom Holding call" against GRONK. It was borderline at best and I can't be 100% sure that a regular ref wouldn't have done the same thing. It's upsetting to me that my Pats lost the game, but if they had played better the rest of the game it would not have come down to 1 questionable call at the end. |
As an FYI to all who may not be aware. The games have been longer IN PART to the new rules regarding all scoring plays are being reviewed.
|
The Ref's would be back on the field if they would drop their demand for a pension program. The NFL has offered a 401(k). These guys earn between $80k and $160k for part time work over five months.

Nfl refs a joke
The NFL refs have become a bad joke like watching wrestling. Article in the NY Daily News for you to enjoy.

Still hotly debated in NY and the rest of the world.

The NFL is and will be fine. When has there been so much buzz about the NFL in weeks 1-3? If the replacement refs are consistent, then the players and coaches should be able to adapt, just like they do for the regular refs. Some of the crews tend to call holding more than the regular refs while others let the wide receivers and defensive backs have more contact without flags flying.
