Evans Prairie CC Soft Opening

The next country club, Evans Prairie, (south of CR466A off Buena Vista) is scheduled to have a "soft" opening this coming Wednesday, October 24th, at 4 PM. Decor is definitely an improvement over Bonifay and quite upscale. Menu also looks interesting.

spk7951 10-23-2012 11:21 AM

To add to the country club opening I heard last night that the opening of the Evans Prairie golf course is slated for Friday November 2nd. The course will be open to golf admin employees only for the 30th & 31st.

What is wrong with Bonifay decor??

tracy1j 10-23-2012 11:41 AM

Thanks for the info! Golf-tinker, is the menu online, or how did you see it? What was different/interesting on the menu?

justjim 10-23-2012 12:17 PM

Bonifay restaurant is definitely more contemporary laid back and beach type atmosphere than other country clubs within The Villages. This fact doesn't make it good, bad, or ugly except in the eyes of the beholder and peoples preferences. The same goes with the outdoor bar----some like outside and some don't. Within TV its great to have choices!

Dinner was great

Went to Evans Prairie tonight with a group for dinner and everyone enjoyed their meals. Interesting layout with the separate dining rooms but plenty of glass doors with views out to the bar and water. Outside patio has pull down screens facing the water along with heaters in the ceiling. Great idea! Staff was very attentive and the menu has a good variety to it. Burgers, sandwiches, pasta, fish, chicken and beef. Happy hour is a bit strange, 2pm to 4pm and 8pm to 10pm. GM from Bonifay is now the GM at Evans.

mak44070 10-24-2012 05:59 PM

Neighbors and I went to Evans Prairie tonight. One person had a wrap, another the salmon, and I had the Bruschetta Steak with pasta. All dinners were great!
The menu covers both lunch and dinner. The list of desserts sounded delicious - maybe next time.
:mmmm:

Maybe it's good to have different hours. Many times we've finished golf about 1-2 PM and find out happy hour starts at 3.

raynan 10-24-2012 07:13 PM

We went to Evans Prairie for dinner with another couple. All were happy with their meals. 1, Country Fried Steak, 2, Shephards Pie, 3, Salmon with a Pomegranet chutney, 4, Pork Shank. All served with real mashed potatoes and broccoli and baby carrots. One couple split the Bourbon Pecan Pie and it was huge. One couple split the raspberry sorbet. 2 big scoops. Ate outside. Very pleasant. Fun place and beautiful.

So happy to hear Evans Prarie is off to a good start. Nice to hear some positive things about a country club. Hope they keep up the good work.

Went to Evans Prairie tonight had a nice time. Bar area very nice sat outside which is what I enjoy. Glad to have another watering hole.

wendyquat 10-24-2012 09:57 PM

At least it will be a place to eat on the trip to or from Brownwood. We were at Brownwood last evening and there was only a handful of people! I can't see much business at the square until there are a few places to eat!

Finallyfree 10-25-2012 07:27 AM

Think about the happy hour times folks, 5:00-8:00 people come in for dinner; the happy hour times are to get folks in off times. Good business decision.

Bonny 10-25-2012 08:14 AM

We were there last night for drinks. Beautiful inside. We didn't eat, but several of our friends did & all were very happy with their meals. We are going there later today for drinks & we'll try something off the menu. Everything I saw looked great.

Evans Prairie golf

A correction to an earlier post of mine in this thread. According to The Daily Sun today the Evans Prairie golf course opens to the public on Saturday Nov. 3rd.

tghoul 10-25-2012 02:41 PM

I saw golfers on the course this afternoon. Maybe they were letting the Ambassadors play.

One of my buddies said that the first people they were going to let play the course on it's official opening day were the groups that finished the Daily Sun Challenge to play all 500+ holes in The Villages.

Yes, Ambassadors played Evans Prairie today. Talked to my neighbor who is an ambassador on his way out the door.

I think the Bonifay is decorated wonderfully with it's beach-y decor and the wave look of the bar. Very nice to have that in Florida

The only thing that was disappointing about Bonifay were the swarms of flies at the outside bar and in the outdoor dining area. Hopefully, the cooler weather will get rid of them.

Best restaurant in The Villages remains the Nancy Lopez Country Club.

Uptown Girl 10-25-2012 05:37 PM

Hubby and I ate dinner there this evening. We enjoyed the place, the food and the service. An appetizer, two dinners and coffee ran $31 including tax. I brought home generous leftovers for my lunch tomorrow as well. Give it a try!

Skybo 10-25-2012 05:45 PM

We went there today as well. The food was really good. And our server (Hector) was great. I thought the decor was very nice and I liked the "split dining" area. We ate outside, but I imagine that the two separate dining rooms would make it less noisy (a frequent complaint about Bonifay). So far, I'm very impressed.

asianthree 10-26-2012 08:17 AM

last night not as smooth as thursday. food was luke warm and vegies were raw, took longer than normal. food was tasty but needed to be hot. will try again

Bonny 10-26-2012 08:36 AM

I'm sure they'll work out all the little new restaurant hiccups & do an awesome job.

Thanks for the link, Skyguy! I was pleased to see that they accommodate vegetarians & they say that all food is made from scratch:

"Evan's Prairie Country Club cooks from scratch using superior quality ingredients, including local delivery of fresh produce every morning. You should expect real food, without all the preservatives and ingredients you can’t pronounce, from our kitchen."

eremite06 10-26-2012 01:31 PM

They should proof read their "about" description for errors.

I found 14. Am I the winner? :p

Bonny 10-28-2012 07:27 AM

8 of us went to have dinner last night. All 8 of us had something different. Food was very good & our waiter, Tony, did an excellent job. After, we went to the bar & had some delicious martinis and other drinks. All very good.

Yorio 10-28-2012 10:15 AM

Look forward to our trip to Evans Prairie. When Bonifay opened, I found their fish and chips to be fluffy and juicy so went back again and again. Wonder what special wonder awaits us at Evans Prairie. Have signed up for their e-mail so looking forward to a free $15 appetizer.

Mimivillager 10-28-2012 02:50 PM

We had lunch at Evans Prairie yesterday and all was fantastic and the service was superb. The staff all seemed so happy too and all knew what they were doing. The manager came by ( we knew him well from Bonifay) and he said the happy hour has been changed to 2-5 and 8-10. That made us very happy because we like to have cocktails before dinner and like to eat around 6. 2-4 was too early for us. I believe they will have more food sales with the happy hour by adding that 5 o'clock hour. Definitely, they will get our business.

gomoho 10-28-2012 03:51 PM

How about 2-10. Were there around 5:10 yesterday and had a not so happy hour; however, the Mahi sandwich was outstanding. Hot and flavored perfectly!

Shimpy 10-28-2012 04:04 PM

I guess from the menu they aren't interested in serving breakfast.

LittleDog 10-28-2012 04:07 PM

My wife and I went there last night for dinner and today for lunch. Last night I had Shepards Pie and my wife had meat loaf. The Shepards pie was OK. I have had better. My wife said the meatloaf was good. We had an exceptional waitress named Michelle who told us that she had never been a waitress before. I would have to say that her service was on the top of my list. She was great. Today for lunch I had a country fried steak and the wife had a patty melt. The country fried steak needed more white sauce and the patty melt according to my wife was greasy, probably due to the fried onions. One again the service was fine. I believe the prices are a little bit high here. The decor is very nice. Personally I still think that Cane and Lopez are the two best country club restaurants in the villages.

2-10 would be nice for us but not so good for the establishment. You just missed happy hour for drink discounts at 5:10. But what made your hour not so happy?

I had a salmon BLT sandwich yesterday and it was outstanding. I can't wait to get another one-it was so delicious!

gomoho 10-28-2012 05:34 PM

Actually we asked the waitress and she said 2-4 yesterday. Maybe he changed the times today! Not so happy 'cause had to pay full price for a glass of wine and there are so many happy hours in TV it's unusual to have to do that.

The Villages Gourmet Club already has the menu posted on their great website.
Also, according to them, Half Price Happy Hour is 2-5 PM not 4 PM.
