Thanksgiving
 

I know that it's early, but can anyone recommend a good restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. There are only two of us and it is my wife's first Thanksgiving in her new country.

We have always had a wonderful experience at the Lakeside Inn in Mt. Dora. Lovely Vicotrian inn on the lake, wide veranda with rocking chairs. Inside, a sumptuous buffet with table service for drinks, wine, tea, coffee.
Reservations essential, the sooner the better.

So where does someone who has just moved in that is single and new to the area go? Should I make a reservation for 1 somewhere? Is that acceptable? I will be renting till my house is complete end of November, so that leaves Thanksgiving in my rental doing dinner by myself and with my dogs.

Aww! I would invite you but I'm going out. Have you met any other singles yet? C'mon, guys and gals, make a date!

:( We are invited to friends or I would invite all of you with no destination to our house. I love to cook a turkey and all the stuff that goes with it.

Someone could cook a turkey or buy one cooked at Publix and have a potluck.

Singles Thanksgiving
 

I have a suggestion for you ----- start a new thread and call it Thanksgiving for Singles, or whatever. See if this attracts singles who might be interested in booking a large table in one of the Country Clubs for Thanksgiving Dinner. But, you'll have to move fast because Thanksgiving sells out. Here's another idea ....... our "local" is Glenview and their lounge/bar is situated right in the middle of their restaurant. You could call the manager and see if they would be prepared to serve a single in the lounge.

When my other half was traveling he would stay in good hotels, and at that time these hotels would cater to single business people with a large table, if you wished to sit there you could and would be joined by other business singles, if you preferred not to that was OK too.

If any of the Managers from the various country clubs log in here this might be a good business idea for TV.

When I was single I always ate at the restaurant's bar. Always had someone to talk to, made friends, flirted with the bartenders ;) etc. Call around and check which restaurant's will be serving at the bar, better than sitting alone at a table, Ithink

I've been on a cruise ship for many years, so don't frankly pay much attention to what's happening, locally!

That said, some of the suggestions earlier in this thread might work for you!

Thanksgiving Feast
 

Closer to home we went to The La Haceinda last year for their Thanksgiving Buffet and it was GREAT!! There was 6 of us and we all agreed it was well worth the money and made for a nice celebration. You have to make reservations and the price was reasonable. You won't be sorry if you chose to dine there.

Jim - one of the great american restaurants is Bern's SteaKhouse in Tampa (yeah, a hike). Consider a 2 day trip - Bern's on Thursday ... an evening at a fine hotel or romantic b&b..Friday at the Dali museum...sunset at the ocean and then a drive back to TV. Memories are made of events...dinner is just one part.

Gracie, I agree..next year we'll cook dinner together and invite anyone that wants to come!

Before I retired and moved back home to Michigan, I owned a condo in a high rise in Falls Church, Virginia. The condominium had over 1,000 residents -- not as big as TV -- but large for a condominium. The residents were from all over the world and many of us didn't have families in the area.

Our Social Commmitte organized potluck dinners or picnics in our Community Room on all of the major holidays except Christmas. We even celebrated Valentine's Day and St. Patrick's Day! The summer potlucks were by the outdoor pool -- weather permitting. Most people seemed to make it home for Christmas. The Committee furnished the main dishes (like turkey, mashed potatoes and dressing) and everyone else brought a dish to pass or a cash donation. A lot of the people brought ethnic dishes from their home country.

I miss that condo -- the dinners, coffee and donuts on Sunday morning, the Redskins game on the big screen TV on Sunday afternoon and just being with my new family! It made not being able to go home for the holidays a lot easier.

I would like to check back for suggestions, renting for November - might be chance my husband will be stuck up north - would be interested in group for country club/inn - reservations --

I might have spotted a notice for a musical program - transportation provided? Dinner/theatre - does anyone know about this as a possible choice for single's group?

Arnold Palmer CC always has a great Thanksgiving and they also serve it at the bar!

You can always buy a full Thanksgiving meal from Fresh Market. We've done that a few times and very very good.

Was remodeling my kitchen last Thanksgiving, so couldn't make dinner. Took a chance and went to Cracker Barrel and was really surprised how good it was. Naturally, not as nice a restaurant as Victorian Inn, but food was great. Price was only $8.95 and that included turkey, mashed or sweet potatoes, vegetable, rolls and even a great piece of pumpkin pie. Went around 2 to avoid the crowd. It was very busy even then, but got in within 15 minutes.

Join BabyBoomers singles. Sure tey must have something going on.

We have been here several times on Thanksgiving and have always gone to Arnold Palmer. It was yummy!!

I posted earlier that I'm inevitably on a cruise ship for Thanksgiving. But, I'd be remiss if I didn't make a couple of other suggestions!

A year or so before I moved to TV, I came down from St. Louis to have dinner with my brother, who lives at Love's Landing, an airpark off Marion County Road. Because his wife had had a stroke not long before, he arranged a complete T'giving dinner from Publix!

The meal was super, only requiring some strong and difficult logistics to coordinate the warming of various dishes! It was one of my most memorable Thanksgivings!

A second suggestion would be to make a reservation with any one of the Country Clubs (probably too late, now, but keep it in mind for 2013) and tell them that you'd be happy to make up a party of four or six with other unidentified customers! What better way to make new friends!?!?

A Traditional Thanksgiving Meal
 

While it technically will not be home cooked, the best traditional Thanksgiving meal will probably be the Cotillion Cafe in Wildwood. Definitely southern style but the cook/owner is always there and the food is beyond reproach. Bring your own wine since they do not sell wine or beer, but will provide the needed glasses.

NOT Katie Belles! While I enjoy going to Katie Belles for casual dining I did NOT enjoy their rendition of Christmas dinner in 2010. It was like everything was straight out of the can and thick sliced deli turkey! No taste! Cracker Barrel is a better choice!

We went to Glenview Country Club and it was terrific. Would easily recommend to anyone.
