bought new home in TVs what washers did you buy?
 

Wife and I have bought a new home in TVs ,we close on it this monday, very exciting! We are now looking for washer and dryers .What did you buy ,front loader, top loader? I am leaning towards a front loader but wife is thinking top loader. We would just like to see what others have bought and what they think of the two? Thanks.

I went to lots of open houses while visiting TV this month and I was amazed that there were not more front loaders. I think out of all the homes we toured, we only saw one set! Here at home, I have front loaders with a countertop over them and cabinets above. It's a great set-up, as it allows for a folding spot as you pull clothes from the dryer. Especially in TV where laundry rooms seem very small, this would be a plus.

We bought front loaders. Both are Samsung with steam on both. They are great and my wife loves them. Got them at Lowes, they installed free, also got the pedestals for both.

I bought the large capacity stacked washer dryer style. That free'd up the space in our laundry room for a suspension rod, and storage area for cleaning supplies and vac etc. I can hang laundry right out of the appliances if necessary. We have an At Ease, and the laundry area is a pass-through from house to garage.

We bought front loaders. Both are LG with steam .Also got the pedestals for both.
Can't say how I like it because closing our house well be Dec 7 but I am sure I well love it .Got them at Best Buy

if you live here full time buy a front loader, if not you need to leave the door open so it does not mold

Front loader washers use less water, are easier on your clothing and much quieter than top loaders.

We have a Bravo X Maytag top loader and a front load Maytag Bravo Dryer. Bought them at Home Depot. They use HE detergent. Depending on which cycle you use, they also use less water and less soap. So it's not just the front loaders that use less water. We love ours and find that they may take up less room in the laundry room than the front loaders. They have several cycles that I love. The bulk cycle for small comforters and towels. The hand wash cycle that works great on our clothes that doesn't beat them to death like our old washer did. There is no beater bar in this machine.

I also have the, Bravo X Maytag top loader and a front load Maytag Bravo Dryer. Bought them at Home Depot.
Home Depot also gave me an extra 10% off, with my retired military reserve, ID.

I have the Maytag top loader washer - got it on introductory sale - even better, does a great job and I love mine. It has a stainless steel basket, big improvement. I have no intelligent reason for this, but I much prefer top loaders to front loaders.

Consumer Reports top recommendation for washers is Samsung and LG is second. In dryers they have LG as first and Samsung as second. Whirlpool came in third. If you stack your W/D in the laundry room you'll have room for a second refrigerator, which is much better than putting it in your hot garage.

In our build, we are allocating that space to more sq footage to the garage.

We bought one of those high energy/low water no-agitator models--the Sears version of the Cabriole--and boy do I not like it. First of all, it uses so little water the clothes don't come clean. (And we have a whole-house water softener, which makes for better use of the detergent.) There's only one way to get it to use more water, and that is to saturate the clothing with a bucket of water after loading, because the machine weighs the clothing to determine how much water to use. And still, I have had to resort to using Clorox on the whites or else the stains don't come out. This is a pain because you must separate out the cotton blends because you can't use bleach on them. So the huge drum aspect is pretty much negated.

Plus, we had to turn up our water heater to try to get the hot and warm settings to use hotter water.

Read reviews of this agitator-less type washer online. Many people are complaining that their clothes are not coming clean, and also that the machine is ripping up their clothing.

This type machine can't hold a candle to the front loader I've had in Michigan for the past 15 years--pristine clothing and so gentle on them. I SO which I'd stuck with the front loader. I let the new technology and the fact of using less water suck me in. In reality, I got hosed!

I'm giving it five years before I start campaigning to replace it.

When we replaced our GE washer and dryer from TV I did a lot of research online. I also tried the front loaders at my kids houses. They tangle clothing. They have mildew odors if not immediately wiped out after use. You cannot add anything once they are started. They also have digital panels for expensive future repairs. I chose Speed Queen! They are made in America , have a 3year warranty, 10 year on the transmission. I don't want fancy I want functional. I want the work horse model. I have been very satisfied with my choice. Mine was ordered from a dealer in Belleview. I think it is well worth looking at this line. Delivery was included.

I have had the same problem as Cfrance, my top loading machine is simply not filling up with enough water to wet the clothes. I have had it for two years. I had a Maytag Neptune at home and it was great for many years. I replaced it with an LG that shook the entire house and replaced that with a Maytag after a year. Not totally satisfied with that machine either, but this one down here is the worst of all. I am done with high efficiency.

I also have the Samsung front loaders with steam. LOVE the steam feature! They are quiet, energy efficient and easy on the clothing. Also large capacity which I love for bedding.

We bought front loaders, both are LG with steam. If you buy front loaders buy the pedestals for both or you will be back to buy them. Also we can't say how we like them because close on our house Nov 16> We also bought ours from Best Buy along with our Samsung refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher.

Speed Queen
 

We bought Speed Queen. They are US made. No plastic gears to wear out and no electronics for lightning to damage. Reminds me of the "old Maytag" we had for 25 years.:smiley:

We went with the top loaders. No problem with mildew and having to wipe down the door gasket to prevent it. Also, with the front loaders, many times if a liquid bleach is used for whites, we have had dark clothes spotted because of bleach still in the dispenser. Not enough water to thoroughly disperse it.

Shout Out for Electrolux
 

I read many reviews before deciding on the Sears Kenmore front-loader brand made by Electrolux. I usually swear by Consumers Report, but then after reading customer reviews on Best Buy, Home Depot, and Lowes as well as CR, decided against their top rated models.
Here's what I LOVE about the Electrolux front loader: you CAN add things after it starts without the tub draining...I think it's about 5 minutes to do so and it is great.
It is made in the USA!
The washer has a concrete slab in the bottom, so it doesn't wander. Sears professionally installs.
The door is adjustable to hinge on left or right and you don't pay extra for the kit. The standard configuration worked for me.
The reminder "bell" is not an annoying buzzer, but a lovely chime.
My laundry room is next to the kitchen, and with the laundry room door closed, I don't hear it operate.
It has a 15 minute quick wash cycle not normally found on washers.
The water gets really hot as it has an inline heater.
It cleans wonderful.
I did not order the pedestals because I want to fold on top, so yes I do have to bend over a bit.
The interior lights are blue.
And last but not least, I ordered the "Blackberry" color (only at Sears) which is really rich looking and my laundry is a pass-thru to the garage.
I had a front-loading Whirlpool with a great rating up north, but NEVER ever liked it. So very happy with my new set even though I choked initially on the price. <smile> Ask for military discount at Sears if applicable!

This is also what I have and am very pleased with performance, however I did not get the pedestals because I think they raise them too much to use for folding, etc. and make them too close to the cabinets above. I would like them raised a little and hope one of these days to have a small platform built to put them on.
