A lot of homes on LI North Shore still have no power from Sandy, LIPA is saying it might be Thanksgiving.

I hear there are still gas lines.

This is sick.

For the time being with snow falling:

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas. :sing:

Hope you all soldier through all this. I spent one New Year's Eve (1983) stuck in a snow bank about 40 miles outside of Laramie, Wyoming after my car started twirling on an icy Interstate 80. I ended up fairly well buried in a snow bank. Good Samaritans had been stopping by the various vehicles stuck in the snow banks because of the black ice.

A tow truck eventually got me and I spent New Year's Eve waching one of the Porky's movies. In hindsight, the snow bank might have been more entertaining if it had not been so cold.

The roads are slick from snow where I am or so the drivers tell me. I will find out on the drive home. Stay safe everyone.

We are trying really hard to remain positive. Some hours it's not as easy as others. We are still waiting for insurance adjusters to meet with us. FEMA was here today and was very helpful in answering questions and guiding us along in what will be a long process. So far we have ripped out walls, sheetrock, insulation and flooring in the 7 rooms on first floor. Taken a zillion digital pics for documentation. All our furniture is at the curbside along with everything else that was destroyed. It is an ugly mess. Sad to look up & down the street and see the same thing repeated house after house.

But as I have said before we are safe, we have shelter with family and we do have a home that can be rebuilt. Gee, it looks like we will be building two homes at the same time - one in TV and one in PPB! So that's what keeps me going and focused. Once we do our design mtg next week, then TV can handle the rest. I know that they will turn out a great product that we will love and enjoy. Hubby and I will work on whipping our NJ home back into shape and it will be better and stronger than before -- just like us :)

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your words of encouragement and support. It means the world to mean. And for those who have also been touched by the effects of this devastation, either directly or indirectly, you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Sorry life has delt you a difficult hand. My heart goes out to you. Rebuild in NJ and build your home in TV and come down and get some R&R. your luck will turn around and you will enjoy the sunny skies and warm days in Florida. We also came from NY, near Albany and one of the main reasons we left is the weather. Couldn't take snow, ice and all that messy, dangerous stuff. We can hardly believe we aren't going to have to go through winter this year. Our thoughts are with you. Stay safe and keep you eye on the rewards of your hard work!

I thought KathieI was the incumbent Mayor.

BTW - I'm sorry to hear a tree fell and your son is out of electricity again.

Listening to sports radio today and there were talking to a qualified lineman and he said they were not able to restore lines as another company's management wouldn't let them touch their wires. They were brought in to help and management leadership is non existent so there are people who could and should have power but they are sitting on their hands waiting for the ok to go ahead and fix what's needed. This is a travesty for people who need heat and power and are suffering needlessly.

glad you are home safe, jimbo2012 and so sorry to hear the news re your son! am beginning to rethink the old adage that god does not give us more than we can handle! 1" to 2" of snow here on the coast and up to 6" some 15 miles inland. general area is suffering exploding transformers and downed power lines. one town had to declare a total travel ban until daylight because of downed wires and no traffic lights on local and major roadways!

house here just has the occasional flickering of the lights - but after 8 days of no power and lots of cold, i sorta flinch with each flicker! jump outta my seat though when the snow slides off the third floor roof to the second floor roof and then to the first floor roof!
