Christmas Lights
Is there any restriction on outdoor Christmas lights here in the Villages?
|
None that I know of. There are some real boozies; lights, music, animation and a few with music and sound that one can hear a block away. Wonderful to see and experience, but sometimes I wonder how the neighbors can tolerate it for a whole month (my hat's off to them). A lot of neighbors seem to really enjoy all the surrounding excitement and at one location even pass out treats to all the visitors. There a few areas where the whole block or neighborhood decorates in one grand theme, with every house participating.
It will take you at least 2 or three nights of touring to see all the best highlights. It is a wonderful time to be in the VIllages!!:pepper2: Best of all, it happens both North and South of 466, no discrimination at Christmas! Google "The VIllages Christmas Lights" , or such, and you will find many postings on U-tube and other sites of past displays. |
There is the restriction that "seasonal decorations" are only allowed for a 30-day period.
So, no putting stuff up now and taking it down after New Years! :pepper2: SWR :beer3: |

As a followup to an earlier post:
One of the best light shows in TV has been recorded for the last 3 years and may be seen at www.vimeo.com/user2050534/videos The guy must have been a professional light show designer in real life! |

Does anyone have an updated list of Must see Christmas lights in the Villages?

I'm going public with this. As modest as ours will be, let the "30 day" police come and get me. By Golly, I'm going on with the 35 days worth!

I'm thinking that next year I'll do the Clark Griswold thing. |

Somehow I don't think the 30 day rule applies to Christmas. Have fun and enjoy the season.

I put up all of my outdoor stuff yesterday. It's sooooooo nice doing it in 70 degree weather as opposed to VT. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Hopefully not 30 days!
Usually (for me) lights go on Thanksgiving night and stay up until Three Kings Day -January 6th. :bigbow: |
The light display on Dunkirk off of Odell starts tonight. There are 11 homes participating this year. It is one of the most extraordinary displays I've seen in a neighborhood done by private citizens. Come out tonight for the kickoff party and bring canned food products to donate to their cause. It is honestly breathtaking. All set to music. Last year's was indescribable.
Don't forget the Cottom Farm's display and the houses along the way that put on a show that nearly rivals Dunkirk's. I'm impressed. Here is a link to a discussion about the lights in TV and the surrounding area from TOTV last year: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ust-see-46321/ |

Mine were put up yesterday and will be up until at least January 1. That is at least 39 days by my count!!:MOJE_whot: |
LOVE the decorated neighborhoods, especially when the homes all coordinate and do it together! It's a family tradition to drive around to view the lights. The light shows such as on Dunkirk are fun...but get a bit crowded on the street (could be dangerous actually) with folks parking on both sides of the street and then congregating in the middle to chit-chat etc. Wish we could just drive past slowly w/o having to worry that someone will unintentially walk out w/o looking or a small child do the same. NOT being a grinch here as Christmas is one of the most wonderful holidays we can observe. Just stay safe, folks!!!

I was thinking that it would be great if all the houses around the lake near the golf cart bridge did displays facing the lake. It would be really cool for everyone using that cart path as well as the people driving on 441/27

A couple years ago there was a big to-do about the display because Baltimore City police had begun showing up to direct traffic there on the weekends because of the huge volume of people showing up to view the displays. Some local grinches raised cane about "city tax dollars being wasted", but eventually the grinches were quieted. And the displays have gone on. I vote for the poster who's going for the full 39 days!! Have at it!! |
We saw the light show on Dunkirk tonight (Saturday) and the lights at Calumet. Both were spectacular.
|
Maybe someone will start a thread with just the addresses of the displays...it would be really great for us Village newbies.
