I agree, Daniel Day Lewis's acting and the make up was so good I easily forgot it wasn't actually Lincoln. The movie was a little longer than I thought it needed to be. I think it could of ended after the vote in the house of representatives.

I also saw the movie and enjoyed it. The acting was superb and you are right I actually thought I was watching Abe Lincoln himself. Hated the ending...it made me cry.

Just go ahead and mail the Oscar to Daniel Day Lewis! The man once again demonstrated his brilliance.

Cantwaittoarrive 11-19-2012 03:54 PM

I also thought Tommy Lee Jones's acting was good and he may get a supporting actor nod at Oscar time

Saw "Lincoln" in Dubuque, Iowa today (visiting my dad for Thanksgiving). The movie was sold out -- first time I've been to a sold out movie in a long time. The acting was first rate all around. I'm sure there will be several Academy Award acting nominations for Daniel Day Lewis, Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones, maybe a Best Picture nomination and Best Director nomination for Steven Spielberg. If you are a Civil War buff or enjoy American history, this is a must see.

Thought the movie was good and Daniel Day Lewis made a spectacular Lincoln. Really felt it was Lincoln himself.

I thorougly enjoyed the book. Team of Rivals, the Political Genius of Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goowin was a spectacular book.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who is a fan of Lincoln.

I so enjoyed the movie yesterday that I downloaded Team of Rivals to my Kindle as soon as I came home and dug right in...

Great movie-- Lincoln would probably be impeached(if not convicted) today. And we think things are bad in congress now!!

Tom Hannon 11-25-2012 09:25 AM

I'll take Lincoln as President in 2012. Hes a good guy

We went to see Lincoln yesterday. Hoping to get into the 4:05 show at the Rialto at Spanish Springs. We were told that there was only front row seats available. If it's open seating how to they know only the front row is available. We walked away but I was left wondering if they have a reduced price for front row?
We went back and asked about the 6:35 show and were told that we could buy tickets but should come back at 5:30 and get in line for seating. I hate standing in lines. There's really not a movie made that could get me to buy tickets hours in advance and wait hours for seats. I'll just wait a week or so and we will walk in and see it when we want.
We went to see Argo at 4:35.
My wife loved it, I thought it was just OK. Too much crazy cutting. Then the scene with the cars chasing the jet down the runway was a bit overly dramatic and unrealistic as was the series of events at the airport with the tickets, phone calls and everything else. Just too overly dramatic. I wish they would just stick to exactly the way things happened.

I saw Lincoln also and liked it very much. But as most American who haven't lived in a cave for two hundred years knows, (Sorry if I spoil the ending) Lincoln gets assassinated at the end which didn't surprise me. I saw it coming. Great movie. And I believe pretty accurate. But who am I to say. I wan't there.

I'm glad to hear that because I was afraid that it might be one of those revisionist type movies that Hollywood often produces. I've already heard from people of a certain political philosophy that Lincoln wasn't really in favor of freeing the slaves and that he did it only for political reasons and all sorts of other nonsense. Some people just want to find anything they can to tear this country down and turn all the great things we have done into negatives. Unfortunately, there is a lot of hate out there.

All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.

Imagine there no countries, it isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill and die for and no religion too.

You get the idea.

The book explains the real issues in America in much greater detail. Lincoln genius was in getting others to see the reality of what he was suggesting was the right thing to do.

The part of the book I found fascinating is how some of the people in his cabinet thought they were more fit to be President and initilly looked down on him. After interfacing with Lincoln, they came to realize he was much superior to them.

Great book is "Team of Rivals", by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

But what happened to all the Vampires Lincoln hunted and killed. They never mentioned them in this movie.......oh we'll, guess they just ran out time during the filming.

I heard Lincoln's last words were, "how did the play end". :jester:

Lincoln was a great man and is still revelant. Amazing.

BTW - Lincoln has seen the play, "Our American Cousin", several times and preferred not to go to the theater that night. If only he had stayed home. :(

Good movie. Should get some Academy Awards would be my prediction even if I have not seen many of the other major contenders yet.

Once the nominations are out we will see how good some of the TOTVers are with Oscar predicions. The Numbers.Com has an annual AA contest on who can predict the most Oscar winners. http://www.the-numbers.com/interacti...r_rankings.php
